    • @wheelitzr2

      Thank you!
      They are 1.5" 304 brushed stainless steel tubing with fantastically welded 90's to each end and the hospital was just throwing them all out so I grabbed a bunch of them and made a set of headers, the only set I've built for this that I didn't have a single problem with aside from making the outlet flange 1/4" instead of 3/8" and fighting that periodically.

    Love to see how you did the intake plenum. I wanna supercharge my 4.3L crewcab S10 project truck. I got a m112 from an 03 ford f150 lightning for cheap.

    • @wheelitzr2
      @wheelitzr2  2 роки тому +2

      The M112 is the perfect size for the 4.3l. mine is only an m90 and it's on the small side. On the intake manifold I basically welded the jaguare intercoolers to the top of the factory aluminum manifold and added external ports for fuel injectors from a 6.2l LS. My recommendation if I had to do it over again would be to get the intake manifold from a 4.3l mercruser boat engine that has the external fuel injectors and do an inline intercooler similar to a turbo setup.

      @@wheelitzr2 something to look into thanks, my one guy friend says to build a fabricated alum intake but wasn't sure how you went about it. Using the factory bottom plenum sounds like a perfect starting point.

    • @wheelitzr2
      @wheelitzr2  2 роки тому +2

      @@ashtonmariefranklin725 I cut the entire top of each plenum tube out (you'll see what I mean when you pull the top plastic part off) but I would suggest only cutting them back an inch or so because I lost a lot of low end torque. Also you are going to have to get stronger Pistons because the stock ones won't take the boost, I'm using hypereutectic but I'm only making 8-10lbs of boost, I dropped my compression down to around 9.5:1 only because I didn't have a good way to program for extra fuel delivery until I did the 6.2 injectors.
      With all of this, I am currently building an aluminum block 5.3l for it right now and will be swapping it out in the future, it's cheaper to build and swap in an ls than do what I did to the 4.3l and not get the kind of performance I was looking for. The number 1 reason I don't want to make any more power on this engine is because I can't get an aftermarket forged crank for an even fire 4.3l and so the weakest link in that engine is the crankshaft and really only good for about 300hp, definitely something to keep in mind.

    • @ashtonmariefranklin725
      @ashtonmariefranklin725 2 роки тому +2

      @@wheelitzr2 I heard from guys who run turbos, they say cryogenic treat the crankshaft and use 2, 4 bolt splayed main caps on the 2 center journals and align hone the mains. H-BEAM rods will finish up the bottom end. I could easily do an LS swap. But my goal is to build me a supercharged mighty mouse v6. I believe the LU3 4.3L like I has the ecm's are very tunable with hp tuners. I likes being different from the rest of the crowd . And seeing how you made an intake mounted SC. I've only seen 1 other blown 4.3L v6 it has a 4-71 blower with a 950cfm carburetor and a huge choppy cam. In a hot rod chevy luv.
      I has a full lu3 pulled from a wrecked donor s10 and gonna take my time building it don't care if it takes a few yrs. Current my s10 is my daily driver with 127k miles on it.

      @wheelitzr2  3 роки тому +1

      Correct on both! I have the smallest pulley I can get on it to only get 8psi, I figure at redline (5800rpm) on my engine I'm spinning that blower right at it's limit, it hasn't come apart yet but I did rebuild it with much better bearings and a new drive puck. It has been on there for a little over 50k miles and hasn't missed a beat even if I'm not being very nice to it. But you are very correct and the only reason im using this blower is because it was free to me at the time. I have both an aluminum block 5.3 and a Whipple twin screw off a hummer 6.0 that I'm thinking about combining and swapping out the 4.3 and m62 blower for.

    What was your hp gain

    • @wheelitzr2
      @wheelitzr2  6 років тому

      At ~8psi on the stock pistons and a haltec computer it made 403 to the flywheel on an engine Dyno but with the 8.5:1 pistons and my stock computer tuned by a trusted friend I'm guessing 340 at most. So around 50-60 hp gain, with the bigger blower I'm putting on it and not changing anything else at 8 psi I could see 380-390hp just from the less drag of the bigger blower.

      @@Janarr_350 it would cost more money to supercharge your full-size 4.3 than it would to put a V8 in it and gain 2-3x the performance across the board. The only reason I haven't done a V8 is because I got all this stuff for free (aside from the Injectors and map sensor) and made it all work, if I was to throw a number out for another kit like this it would be $10-13,000 I've easily got 400+ hours in building just the blower related stuff.

    Sweet truck, amazing additions. I've been a mechanic for 45 year, can pretty much fix or build anything, but not near what you done to this. I was just found disabled so shutting down my one man shop, taking time to build a little 1996 S10 that I picked up for 600, needed a shift fork on 5 and reverse. Done many of my own added changes, looking ways to lift but as you probably know, not much out there aftermarket or otherwise. And now, disability doesn't pay much, cnc machine surly not an option. This in the nv3500 5 speed with the manual shift t-case, that being all stock, still runs great. Been seriously looking at ls swap, until I looked into supercharged s10, found me here. I've worked on and own many s10's, all 4.3's new style, old style - pre-vortec and even combining the two.
    My last one was a '94 4x4 with a thrown rod. It had the vortec heads and valve covers but throttle body injection, running early distributor, obd1 ecm and a metal timing cover without a crankshaft sensor, and a metal oil pan that thankfully the rod didn't damage. And it did have the balance shaft. So, not wanting to change the ecm, I used a '99 short block. The heads I kept from '94 because they matched the manifold which was different, old school angle. Had to delete 2 holes in the metal timing cover and use the old school pan gasket for the metal pan. anyway, you didn't need to hear all that, just thought it was an unusual find. It did run and and sold for a good return. Appreciate the inspiring ideas, will check your channel for other ideas. maybe the manifold and injectors, plus lift. 63, beat up but still makin' things run. Seeing your work reminds me, all is not lost....

      @wheelitzr2  Рік тому

      All is never lost my friend you just need to keep looking on the positive side! I got diagnosed with epilepsy at the beginning of the year and am still trying. That was an excellent story, you and my grandpa could talk for hours on the older stuff, I'm OBD2 up to direct injection with a few exceptions and they are all basically the same through that range where as before like yours can swap all kinds of vortex and 350 parts around and make them work. I unfortunately broke a rear driveline a year or so ago and 'had' to start a new project on it and of course haven't finished it and moved onto something else... I am actually building an aluminum 5.3 to stuff in it but again struggling for time. I very much appreciate the kind words and if you're on Instagram look me up @mybuiltsonoma I have some older pictures of the truck and some of the last trip to Moab where I broke it, there are mostly clips of my boiler jobs and tool buys with some machining thrown in there.

    What about the M90 supercharger? It seems to work pretty good on v6-v8s at 450 or so hp. Was thinking about swapping 3.8 supercharged engine But this is a simpler idea and can build the 4.3 for way more hp.

    • @wheelitzr2

      The Xterra blower is just big enough for this 4.3 but could be more efficient and work better if it was a slight bit bigger. It would work on a 3.8 or 3.6 but since gm already did the 3.8 supercharged it would be more practical to just build one with that blower. Literally the only ready this is on this truck is because I got 2 of them for free at the time.

Those aren't to bad but you have to pull the valve springs to get to the seals and there is a way to keep the valves from falling into the cylinders, add compressed air to the cylinder when the valves are closed and it's possible if your very careful to reinstall the valves springs and retainers without pulling the heads or intake.

      @wheelitzr2  4 роки тому +4

      There is alot to unpack there,
      Where to begin,
      1st thank you..
      2nd, the only reason these particular parts are on this truck is because I was able to get them for free and wouldn't be on the truck if i had to pay for them.
      Next, the parts that are on my setup are at the limits of what they were designed for, the blower is to small and the intercoolers are to big so neither one really works together, and if they were sized properly they would probably be able to give me another 100hp just from being more efficient.
      You are correct that the 5.7l mercruser is just a Chevy 350, and a Chevy 350 is the most popular/common street engine to build and I can get an entire engine rotating assembly for that engine for your $400 from summit racing so it's definitely the best model to have.
      Now to the bad side, unfortunately give the fact that you can't just go to your local used parts house and say "I want this exact supercharger off this exact vehicle" I'm sure you could but for those kind of specialty parts they are going to cost you more than buying a kit designed for your engine (I got the intercoolers from a guy that had to buy the entire jaguar engine just for the supercharger and fuel injectors at the time).
      The main 2 reasons mine has these exact parts is that they were free and I didn't have any other choice given that nobody made a roots blower for the 4.3l.
      I'll bet that if you bolted up the same blower that you would loose hp on that 5.7l.
      I could give you more advise if I knew what your budget is, what parts you have access to and what kind of stuff can be fabricated, look at it this way I may not have money in the parts but I'll bet I have 400+ hours getting these parts to work together.

      Well that's a bit of a tuff question because I have an aluminum block5.3L L33 in the making right now. With that being said, I'm not necessarily building the v8 because I'm having any particular problems aside from wanting my ac back on the trails for hot days, I can't keep the temp down on this setup with the intercooler running the hot engine temps out to the front of the radiator, otherwise I would 100% keep this set up. I also have a whipple blower off of a 6.0 H2 I have been thinking about sticking on the v8 without any intercooler, but then I'm back basically in the same boat of tuning over power and potential headaches of burning stuff down. I built this 4.3 twice before I was able to get it reliable under boost.

      JRX 2 I am running a stock cam for 2 reasons. It doesn't mess with the computer and a stock cam seems to run really good with a roots supercharger because the boost is lineir with throttle possition. If the truck wasn't boosted then yes a wild cam would wake up the stock motor but you would have to flash the computer for whatever cam you put in it.

      The 4.3 came with two different camshafts in factory form(this generation S10), Vin X and Vin W, I think the difference is 12-15 horsepower. (All Z's have the larger of the 2 cams, kinda like the 8.5 diff Z only stuff, or the leaf spring stanchions, unique to the Z)

    Marine intake and procharger is on my agenda . We run the same exact pistons but mine are 4.030 I’m guessing yours are still stock ? Wish I’d went with eagle rods tho

    • @wheelitzr2
      @wheelitzr2  6 років тому

      The rods are a waist of money because the stock crank is the week link in the 4.3L. I don't think they make a difference either way in mine. Yes stock 4" bore. I didn't know about the Marine intake untill after a built this contraption of an intake manifold but I've Incorporated the intercoolers into the manifold so I'm not sure if I could have made the marine one work anyway.

    • @lostkauz83

    Very nice "custom" intake to mount the blower on. Why not go with a Whipple or Magnuson blower? Much better VE. Fun to see a 4.3 being cranked up. That crank wasn't forged, correct? If so, where did you source it? I'm unaware of forged cranks available for the 4.3L. GMPP had them available at one time, but now they're unobtainium. Same with aluminum heads (at least w/o having to piece together an 18 degree intake manifold system).

    • @wheelitzr2
      @wheelitzr2  6 років тому

      Victor Everlove stock crank (the only thing you can't buy for this engine). the supercharger was free that's why i have that particular one but I have a Whipple twin screw off a Hummer h2 that I am working on putting on right now, I'm working on making some parts to make it fit right now.
