Himmler is the perfect example of why when studying history you must always think critically of a piece of information. If you were unaware of his past actions, and were given extracts of his memoirs, you would assume he was not a bad guy, and was forced to do what he did. But in context you would know that he wrote his memoirs while rotting in a cell waiting to be judged, he was just trying to escape his inevitable judgement

One of the things that never ceases to amaze me about Himmler, is how in terms of appearance he was the exact opposite of the 'Aryan ideals' the Nazis put forward as their ideal German. Same with Goebbels and his club foot.

Falian-nordic core, western influence, etc were accepted and prized. I'd have jet black hair without any sunshine. Have natural bleach blonde in the summer. You have been so failed by the history writers, because the victors write it.

I have a huge compliment for you: Having a voracious appetite for world history, I find that so often it takes FOREVER for the makers of documentaries to get to the point and weave the story of whatever the subject is they are covering. You get to the point and speak at a pace that is clear and easy to listen to, but also disseminates a great deal of information in an efficient way without wasting the time of the viewers with unnecessary dramatic pauses and long gaps of information while pictures are displayed for far longer than is needed. I also love that you don’t seem to think the viewers need to have 40,000 reminders of what you’ve just spoken about , which again holds up the narrative far too long. Watching broadcast network tv documentaries can be horribly painful as they spend more time recapping what’s happened prior to the commercial break and giving previews of what’s to come after the commercial break than actually providing the narrative the viewer is there to see and learn about. You repeat what feels necessary to repeat but always keep the narrative moving without wasting the time of your viewers. A++++ on that! When I come to UA-cam to gain knowledge and perspective about some piece of history, I’m forever aggravated when it takes up huge chunks of time with fancy video transitions and ridiculously long spans of time between one solid good piece of information and the next one, so I’m always happy when a UA-cam search about something brings up a content creator like yourself who gets right to the point and keeps it all rolling along efficiently! I hope some network gives you a show of your own because it would be incredibly interesting to watch you on location actually rolling through a narrative that is compelling and not filled with manufactured drama. Let’s face it, so many pieces of history, especially during the WWII period, are already sufficiently dramatic on their own. And there are SO many conflicting reports of the facts of this period, that anyone with an interest in history is smart to go to multiple sources to get a clearer picture of what most likely occurred. That is made much easier when a video rolls along and doesn’t waste the time of the viewers. You seem to get that and this viewer is greatly appreciative of that! Bravo!

On one occassion he visited an Einzatsgruppen unit who were executing"partisans" and the men aware of Himmler's retoric pushed a gun into his hand and asked him to kill a few himself. Specifically 34th president, a significant cold war president that implemented high-pressure strategies against the Soviet Union. He just wasn't the president at the time. Thus, easy enough slip of the tongue. Almost more a grammatical mistake than a historical one, he was significant in both roles. However, I believe Himmler *did* suggest meeting directly with *general* Eisenhower. Why he thought Eisenhower would not be overridden is hard to say though. Stupid move on Himmler's part.

josh bentley83 Jews and Arabs are both descendants of the Semites. Or in Biblical terms they’re both descendants of Abraham (Jews through Abraham’s son Isaac, and Arabs through his son Ishmael).

Hey, Eisenhower wasn't president until 1952. He was the supreme allied commander of the European Campaign.

It’s crazy to think this was all less than a century ago, for real. Seems totally dystopian having been born in the 90’s...

Himmler wanted to negotiate with President Eisenhower? Did he have a time machine? I don't want to be pedantic but that is too big a flub to overlook.

Once you become president I think you are always called president. Or am I totally wrong? Usually they say president whatever, but they usually stipulate, not yet president. So it’d be negotiated with president Eisenhower, who was only a general here.
