Something very unexpected has happened in the past three weeks. I’m 44 and never worn shorts because of my legs. Varicose veins and random lower leg edema since I was 17, I just never know when my ankles will match my knees in size. But... I woke up one day and just couldn’t be bothered to care anymore. I knew the pandemic has lowered my standards of how to look in public significantly but never (!!!) thought I’d go out in shorts and be fine with it. But, here I am 🙂 Thanks for the video 👋🇸🇪

I’m with you. I’ve got the veins and thick legs, but I just decided this year I just didn’t care. Too bad I didn’t embrace this attitude years ago as I’m 58 now😀

To be Frank, I’m very plus size, and if I only wore things that were flattering, I’d be naked! So I wear clothes I like, including shorts and cami tops. I get compliments, especially on my accessories (I’ve you to thank for that)! I’ve learned how to dress in a classic way but with a bit of fun, and it works for me. I love summer dresses - throw them in, grab a nice bag and sandals, and you’re good to go.
And you sound quite charming, which certainly helps any outfit!

I love summer dresses but last year I discover jumpers. Light weight, beautiful colours & loose fit but not bulky. I like the ones with a belt to cinch in the smallest part of my waist so I don't appear sloppy. I'm obsessed now.
Love Bermuda shorts in the summer.
I really like them in a stretchy material and straight leg or wide leg. So cool and comfortable in the heat and flattering

Thank you for this video. I don’t like shorts very often. I have a white pair in a black pair in there to my knee. I much prefer dresses or skirts in the summer they’re cooler. I just wear dresses all summer long because where I live in the desert gets up to 115 and a nice T-shirt dress is perfect for a day like that.

I'm not a shorts person. My summer wardrobe consists of different lengths of dresses, a couple of midi skirts and a pair of lightweight high waisted jeans. I can see some of the darker dresses transitioning to fall with tights, booties, and a cardigan, moto or jean jacket.
That very last outfit with the nude, cropped trousers, white top and pointed toe shoes is gorgeous - that is what I would call "casual elegance!" The sky blue trousers with white is so pretty, too!
I’m a dress girl. I’m overweight so it affords camouflage for my thighs and I always look a little dressed up! 👗
I’ve been wearing shorts in the summer for 40 years now. I was wearing shorts and blazer over 20 years ago. It’s my favorite piece for summer. This year I tossed some really short ones and extended my summer short collection with 4 pairs of bermudas 💪🏻
I gave up shorts about 10 years ago in my early 40's. Now I wear only skirts in warm weather & I love it
175k Gemma! That’s 1000 in between one video. ❤️❤️ now shorts, I think (my opinion) there are many ways to look classy in shorts. The problem is the proportion of leg to fabric. Everyone has a sweet spot that is their best length. I found this with a tailor/friend. Effortless style isn’t really attainable without,1) trying on loads of styles 2) consider the fabrics, they change the drape and comfort level. 3) if I lived in a climate of heat,you can bet lined linen shorts would be a worthwhile investment. Great suggestions! I use color blocking as an alternative to jumpsuits or rompers. You get the jumpsuit look without the hassle. Works with shorts or pants. Color blocking also makes you look taller for the petite ladies.
I live in a California city where it is frequently 100-110 degrees daily in the summer. A common casual outfit here is some type of shorts or slim white ankle pants and a light garment on top, accessorized with sandals, handbag, and sunglasses. I appreciated very much your take on shorts outfits that look "put together" and comfortable in the heat. Your tips have inspired several outfits that have gotten me compliments. Thank you so much.
I will wear shorts around my house, but I've never been one to wear shorts outside my own home, even in the hottest of our (southern USA) summers. I do love linen in the summer, whether a pair of linen pants or a skirt, I just find the fabric to look and feel comfortable and cool. For going out to restaurants and such, I love a nice pair of white linen slacks, paired with a cool cotton or linen top, and a nice pair of sandals.
Spring/summer has always been the hardest seasons for me to dress for since I do like clothes that cover more and a more sophisticated style. Makes living harder in sunny San Diego and Hawaii(the last place I lived.)

I wear cropped pants. I haven’t worn shorts since my 30s. Cellulite and droop knees is my problem area.I see to much cellulite on the streets….make no sense to add mine😂

Hi Gemma, I live in Malaysia where short for a Muslim woman can be challenging, but I still wear them to certain places, I don’t wear short that are too short, There are plenty longer shorts now, I also wear my short when I go for holiday or when I go back to Bali. I love wearing them. We live in a country that summer is year long ☺️
I have a simple V-neck black linen dress that I wore more than anything else, to go out, this past summer. I was always cool, comfortable and felt chic, this item was a great investment. I would love to find other colors a similar style, especially basics like navy.
I hate shorts! I have short legs. I love dresses and skirts and the ease of it. Of course you’d like shorts, and I don’t blame you. YOU have absolutely gorgeous legs. Great ideas. I do not wear shorts but prefer cropped pants with my ankles showing or midi dresses. I am petite and feel better in these options. When it is really hot (like today-91F) I prefer a linen midi dress. It looks nice and put together and is cool.

I used to wear shorts all the time. Over the years I migrated from in public to around the house. It was a natural progression; never thought about it much. And I've always worn hemmed/tailored shorts, even as a kid. In public these days I reach for below knee dresses and skirts and trousers. If I remember, I'll wear shorts in public again!
I don't care for shorts. I might can wear a skirt if the ocassion calls for it, but mainly you'll find me in pants and jeans. Thanks for providing these ideas for cooler shorts alternatives.
Love your styling tips. I’m in my late 60’s and I do wear shorts around town as I run errands generally the inseam is between 9 inches and Bermuda length.
I haven't learned to love the crop pants just yet ( at 5'9, they just don't seem to fall quite right) but I am absolutely here for all the other options.
Find a tailor you love. Once you start wearing clothing that fits like a glove, you'll wonder why you've didn't do this before. Plus it opens up a broader range of clothing instead of being limited to what fits you "off the rack"
I love wearing shorts but keep them on the longer side as I'm not a fan of older women in short skirts or shorts. Trying to get into wearing more dresses this year and your suggestions have helped.
I’ve always loved Bermudas, I think they are elegant. Even though I don’t wear shorts that much, I will wear stretchy-waist Bermudas, and lots are available this year.
Love Bermudas! You can bend over, sit on a hot car seat, etc. and be literally covered! I have lovely linen ones.

It took me a few tries, as I got older, to find shorts that work. I think the Bermuda short works best for me with a tailored shirt or even a tee. Also, don’t be afraid to add a thin belt to the mix. The combination can be casual and sophisticated at the same time.

At 55 I’m no longer comfortable in shorts so this was another helpful video for me. Was never really a skirt wearer but now after watching your videos I have embraced them and love them. I so love your style, thank you for keeping me up to date and stylish.
I love shorts, as at my age can’t really wear mini skirts any more. My legs are my best part of my body , and above knee shorts look amazing .

I recently got a really expensive pair of Bermuda shorts - but, I could not justify the price when I thought that I could not wear those to work. Besides, I had also ordered a pair of (equally expensive) wide-leg culottes in the same colour, and preferred those. So, I returned the expensive shorts - at least, the culottes can serve both as work and casual wear. Loved your videos - so calm and reassuring… 💕💕💕😊😊😊
I can wear shorts on vacation, specially in the beach. But not to go shopping of other social activities. I live in the Amazon Region and this is the dressing code here. Your suggestions are perfect but, for me, jumpsuits are not practical for the reason you mentioned, I don’t think short pants look very good on me in spite I have one, but bermudas, specially tailored ones, midi and long skirts and wide leg pants are perfect. Also, my body shape demands the 3rd piece, but I can wear (and find to buy) mostly vests on account of the warm temperature, always around 30 C. Most of the tutorials about summer clothes are directed to vacation occasions. It’s good to watch videos like yours that present suggestions that can be worn in other daily activities. I’d appreciate suggestions of really light and breeze 3rd pieces.

I stopped wearing shorts above the knee after my knee surgery. I had some beautiful linen Bermuda shorts I loved and wore before surgery. I love 💕 ones just below the knee now.
Love this, Gemma. I love shorts but you have to be really comfortable showing that much leg. I usually keep them for casual, country outings and not in the city as much.

My favorite at home is my Bermuda Jean shorts. Otherwise, I love my white linen blend wide leg drawstring pants. They're so comfortable for our hot humid weather, and can be dressed up or down. I have them in a few neutral colors as well. Love your video! Great skirt outfit combinations!

I dont own any shorts except for working out. I love dresses, they do a much better job at minimizing my midsection.

I'm 52 and very much a shorts person, since it's exceptionally hot where I live. That said, I keep it classy and stylish no matter what I wear! Skirts and dresses are also something I wear often!

I think the only one of these I like is the cropped pants, and straight or slim would look best on my body type, as I am curvy. I much prefer a midcalf, because my legs are already long. I'm average height, 5'8", long legs, shorter torso, so teaming mid length cropped pants with a long line top looks very flattering on me. My problem is, being Autistic, I do tend to stick to black, which worked very well for me in my 30's and younger, it's a good, safe colour, and it's definitely my comfort zone. But I would like to try some navy blue and possibly white and beige(!) this coming summer, I think it would look stunning with a white, cream, or beige(!) top, if I find a beige that I like! I don't know, I've never tried beige before, but I do know that now that I'm in my 40s, I want to look more classy, and beige is a very luxurious looking colour that I know I could pull off. I have a couple of very nice, lightweight blazers in navy and black, that I'd like to add a white one to, maybe a beige one(!) that really pull a nice, tailored, summer outfit together. I'm taking my time to find the right, quality, timeless pieces that I'll want to wear for years to come.
I'm over 60 but petite and I like it all. Longer, bermuda shorts or a little shorter I wear all summer. I also like what I see here. If the short is somewhat baggy with tropical print I can wear now. I have a longer torso and shorter legs. It would be nice to try a jumpsuit (you're right about the toilet problem) or short cropped pants that hit at the right length for me. I'm looking for a long A line midi skirt that has some print that makes me feel like summer is here.
I used to wear shorts when I was younger and had nice legs but now that I am over 50 and have had numerous knee operations they are a no go area. My knees have to be covered at all times. I don’t want to walk around scaring dogs and small children.
My favourite casual summer item in place of shorts is floral pants in soft, flowy fabric. Light weight white jeans are always good too.
I have only 1 pair of Bermuda shorts in black for casual evening. Being a redhead, shorts are too "dangerous" for me. 😆

I can wear shorts but if you want to look classy i think it is not suitable when you are 20+. I love midi skirts with a top. Always classy for any occasion !
Am a bermuda shorts woman. It's hot most of the year here in East Africa and the perfect attire for the culture. Short pants aren't appropriate.

I like to wear jumpsuits and long pleated skirts in summer. Never wear shorts😅
I age 70, 5 ft. 3" and have leg veins and bad skin on my chedst and shoulders. I also have a thick middle and a 42DD bust line and 185 lbs. I NEVER know what to wear for my body shape/size/age. My lifestyle is highly active as I have a large dog that I walk 2-21/2 miles in the morning in the grassy open space and I have to watch for ticks and bramble scratches. Black dog hair is a constant presence. Michigan is hot and humid so I wear a ballcap, hiking shoes and I sweat. I am at a total loss as to what to wear. Right now it is sporting good type clothing....and I just feel frumpy and fat all the time.
Great tips Gemma, I have been looking for a simple cotton v neck dress that is not see through; haven't found it yet. Shorts are out of the questions. I like them on others but they don't like me😁.
My legs are rather ‘substantial’ and I find it a challenge to find shorts that look good. I like cropped trousers and have just bought some wide-legged cropped linen trousers which I love and are beautifully comfortable to wear when it’s hot.

I don’t mind wearing shorts. But feel the graphic tees I choose are too youthful; but they are whimsical and fun. Just don’t want to look I’m headed to the office but put shorts on, if you know what I mean.
Jumpsuits are a problem. When you have to use the bathroom you have to remove everything. If you go to a public bathroom it may be wet. I tried this one time and it was the last time.
I really like quilottes but my ankles are very thin and I don't know if it would look nice...

Im 5’3” and skirts just cut me off too much. I find a dress somewhere mid calf gives me a more streamlined look. I won’t wear jumpsuits - too impractical. And, I’m a 34 C/D, but I like wearing a bra, so I won’t wear the skinny strap dresses or camis.
Is there an option to buy any of these items ?
