I suffer from OCD as well and it can get really really hard. I've had it since 2015 and despite getting better, there will be good days and bad days and I admire Tom for being so open about this. I share the same birthday with Tom and we both battle OCD. It's so hard being open about it. I'm 21 and I still find it very hard to talk about to my parents. I am so proud for Tom about talking about it.

@@lesleyvivien2876 My dad is like that and sometimes he does get annoyed at my OCD tendencies but he has gotten better about it and is trying to understand. My mother on the other hand is very understanding about it and is often the one to help me handle my OCD thoughts on bad days when there is a chance of me spiralling. I am very lucky to have someone as understanding as my mum by my side but it truly does depend on each family.

  • @oliverislate3184

I dont know if I am diagnosed but it affects me everyday. My mind will make something up about the dumbest things like if I do something my brain 'doesnt like' for some reason it will tell me do that certain thing differently or you will have bad luck or you will be killed or you will never be happy. This isnt just a once a day thing this happens with me all the time with most things I do. I feel like this tags along with OCD and that constant want for your life to be perfect and symmetrical in my head. Unorganisation in real life like if papers are messy or things are not ordered right don't affect me that much, I have more of a want to feel ordered, symmetrical mind and feeding my thoughts is what makes me think I'm going to live a 'normal' life

I have suffered from OCD for years, I think at the moment it is the worst I have ever been. The older I get the worse it seems to get. If I thought I could get help I would get it but I have no faith anybody helping anybody with anything these days. Where I live you can't even get to see a doctor and if you do it is just some kid that googles everything as he/she is talking to you. I have only ever mentioned it to my doctor once about 10 years ago, I told him it takes me an hour to get out of the house when I am totally ready to leave it because I check all the switches and taps over and over again before I can finally pluck up the courage to walk out of the door. He told me if it only takes an hour then I haven't got it properly, he said people who have it properly can not leave the house and there is a list a mile long of people wanting to see someone. That was about 10 years ago so I can well imagine how pointless it would be trying to sort anything out today. I think I have broken the handle on every car/van door I have ever owned by constantly pulling on it to see if it is locked. I am 49 now and lived with it for years and can't imagine not being like I am. I don't know how my Mrs puts up with me, she is just used to it. I never realised Tom had it until seeing this. I always think he could have played a Mod in Quadrophenia if he had been around at the time. Obviously he wasn't even born when they filmed it but he definitely has that look about him.

I have OCD as well and I know what he means when he says "Don't give in" because when you entertain the thought it just goes downhill! I don't have the physical or cleanliness part of OCD but when I organize things, everything has goes to go in a certain area and I do not want to have odd numbers, idk why I've always been that way?

I've often wondered if I have it. I have to do everything in groups of 6, from steps, to chewing food, to coughing. Everything. If it can't happen in groups of 6, say it's a single event thing, then I have to count or breathe to 6 whilst doing it.

Someone saying they have a bit of OCD is in no way demeaning to someone who deals with it day to day. Next she'll be saying that someone complaining about having a sore leg is demeaning to someone in a wheelchair.

That's not OCD. That's Magical Thinking. A lot of us do it. Like e.g., if I have the t.v. volume on an even number, nothing bad will happen to me etc. If I touch something or someone an even or an odd number of times it will lead to a better outcome. True OCD is debilitating & requires medicating.
