- Here's the memory hook ...
Read a SINGLE LINE of ARABIC.
Feed bags can be frustrating to open. Sometimes they snag. Sometimes they tear. Sometimes, in a fit of rage, I have hacked them open with a blunt knife!
Here's a simple trick to open them like a zipper.
With the SINGLE LINE of stitching facing you, cut the overhanging knots on the RIGHT and separate the two threads. The sewing unravels RIGHT to LEFT leaving you with a wide open bag to pour from and two lengths of thread to truss up your possums!
You beauty! 2 seconds and I'm done after years of struggling.
Same here
This is the most important video I’ve ever watched! Why isn’t this taught in schools?
Thank you so much! After after 40 years looking like a primate opening those bags with my teeth, know I know!!
You contributed to mankind for making this video! Thank you for the demonstration. Very simple. 👍🏻
Man 45 years of pain crushed in 1 minute video - thanks Oz man you rock!!!
7 years on..still has value ! Thanks Scot!!
thankyou!!!! I have opened bags for years and can never get it right, now I will!
I don't believe it, this actually works. After years of frustration. Thanks so much. 👍
I can't believe this is so simple. I have hated these bags for 30 years. God bless you! and god bless the internet!
44 years , first succesfull opening after your tutorial! never going back 🙃
Opening these bags has frustrated me for years and this morning I decided to finally find out how to open them quickly and easily. Thanks for the lesson. So easy to remember - 'single stitch in Arabic'.
As a kid working on my uncle's farm I could never open these damned bags, 50 years later trying to open a bag of spuds you showed me how, cheers mate !
Best demonstration of this ever. Ty!
I have HATED open feed bags for years!! Now it is a piece of cake!! THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for posting this!! I struggle every time and end up cutting the thread and having to pick up massive amounts of tiny threads! This is a real life hack!!
I have snipped every. single. friggin. loop. on so many rice bags. This video has probably given me back 24 hours of the rest of my life. Thank you!
I have finally mastered the sewn bag!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I've been opening feed bags for nigh on 40 year, and up until I watched this tutorial...I struggled to open them - the cursing!. Horse feed, dog feed, chicken feed, goat feed, sheep feed, etc. I've asked how - I'm not shy, but no method ever took. I think someone aught to do an investigation into why feed mills use this nightmarish method of closing feed bags. Thank you Scot Gardner for sharing this simple wisdom - you have made a huge improvement in the mental health of many in agriculture!
Wow thank you! Such good tips and it worked for me. Had been frustrating me for so long 😂
Thanks so much for tase excellent instructions - just went out and opened the bird food sac and it works a treat!!! Grappled with this for years and years and always used to end up cutting them. I hope now to find somewhere to recycle / reuse the bags instead of them ending up in landfill. Thanks again.
These bags can be used to grow trees. Use the bags to generate compost. Fill it up with all organic matter like leaves, veggie peels, egg shells, tea bags, anything left over inb the kitchen. Once full, keep the bag aside for a few months till entire content has been broken down by microbes. Plant a sapling in it and watch how well the trees springs up. You can dig up the sac for the tree to grow its roots deep. Very soon you will be a proud father of a rainforest.
Beam me up. Scotty! Finally somebody who really knows what he is talking about!!!!!
You beauty! Glad this is up after 7 years - and thanks for the reading in reverse memory hook. Worked like a charm on a 65L Searles potting mix bag.
excellent, still relevant in 2024, 54 years old, thanks!!
Thank-you SO much. Im 60 this month and just learnt how to open my birds feed.👌🙃
Cannot thank you enough! Only been at this for a few bags over the last few months, and lucked out once, but otherwise TOTAL frustration. So happy to finally have the solution to the puzzle! Gracias again!! 👍😊👌🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
30 SECOnds, thats all it took. went and did it first time. thank you this one is short and to the point. sweetr
My Mum could always do this first go! I never could. Thank you!
This works great, I just tested on 20 bags at the feed store. The store owner was very impressed, lot of whooping and hollering.
😅😂 I laughed so hard because I was wondering how I can open a lot of bags for practice. So pleasurable that I could turn serial opener. Lol
Thank you for this video.
I just opened a sack/bag of jasmine rice following your useful tips. 😊
2nd to last day of Jan 2023...and I just looked this topic up and watched this to solve my own frustration. I just ran upstairs and immediately opened a new 25 kg of cracked corn with NO PROBLEM using this tip. It was SO satisfying 🙂🙃🙂😄 Thanks so much. I won't forget now!
Thanks much! I never expect it to be so simple. 😊😉👍
Walla ~ ~It's sooooo simple!

I've literally had to watch a video every time I wanted to open one of these bags and I still couldn't remember how to do it.. and your one minute trick has set me right for life! Thanks so much for this beauty of a life hack!
Bingo! My grandfather tough me this many years ago and I had forgotten it. Then I bought some dogfood in a bag like that and found myself scratching my head. Great Vid, thanks.
My dad taught me as a kid too, but because I only open these rarely, I lose the information in between.
I started as an apprentice brewer and these damn bags gave me trouble up until now. Thank you kindly
20 years! 🤣 You're doing better than me! After probably 30 years I decided to find a video to teach me.
My God man, thank you from the very depths of my soul.
It worked!! Even on sunflower seed bags. Thank you so much!!
Thanks, i went over 3 videos before yours and your video was the one that saved me.
Omg! Finally! Years! Yours was the easiest to comprehend and it worked! Thank you thank you!
Greetings...spent yesterday 10 min doing this. Other times no worries, now all is good. A big thank you for this VERY handy advice. Cheers.
You make it look so easy, I’ve tried so many times but not every time it will be that easy.
Thanks
You have officially changed my life! Thank you! Cheers Mate!
Just as a heads up guys, after cutting the string on the right side make sure to pull the string on both sides evenly so they unravel at the same time and at the same pace, otherwise it will get stuck until you even it out again
Thank you.
I KNEW there was a hitch. Sigh. NO ONE, and I mean, NO ONE, can explain this clearly so that it works every time. Back to swearing and cutting with a knife. :(
The real protip is always in the comments
What wad of string do you pull ?? Its all looped on the unseen side !!!! Makes no sense whatsoever
Works like a champ. Thx!
Awesome! I’ve been fighting those sewn bags for years! No more!
The most important thing you have described in the video is facing the single stich and start to open from right to left.
Thanks those bags always gave me problems . My mom feeds her neighborhood peacocks and getting that 40lb bag of seed open made our day !
Neighbor peacocks, so lucky and lovely! Tell them I said hello
Brilliant video mate.
Cheers from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
Beautiful video! Has helped me on several occasions!!!
OMG Ive been trying to figure that out for 60 years thank you brother, LMAO !!!!!
I needed you twenty years ago myself!
You win. Other 2 videos i watched i did not understand. The best thing was knowing which side should face me.
Finally! Thanks a lot. One less frustration in life.
Are you bloody joking me?! This vid has been on the tube since 16 and I am barely figuring this out in 2020???
Haha! Great video, mate!
Thanks! Saved me 10 mins of frustration
thanks Scot!, Sometimes I've fluked it but now I know and will get it every time!
Thank you! It’s such a pain in the neck to wrestle with these bags while my hungry lambs are bothering me to just feed it to them.
You sir, are a god amongst men.
The video I've been longing to see my whole life. Thanks!
Thank you. Simple explanation. Just tried worked perfectly. I struggled for years ..🙏
Thank you so much, this has left me feeling like an absolute jackass I can't believe it's taking me till I was 40 to bother to log on to UA-cam, thanks man
Thank you, you are a champion! My grandfather showed me in the 70's, but I could never work it out.
Just what I needed, thank you! Short and to the point!
Eight years later....... thank you. Everything's simple if you know how.
You, sir, are a boss!
Outstanding!
My fathers uncle used to open them the right way and I could never figure out how... Now I know, thanks!
Onya Champ, this always used to be one of those 'Am I gonna jag it this time?' events, not any more.
Finally!!! I was about to step into on coming traffic because of this simple problem. Cheers.
Been messing up countless sacks of rice since the 80’s. Not anymore, thanks to you.
👍👍🤗🤗🇦🇺 SNAP to all the other comments ... I've flunked it a few times, but could never remember how I did. ABSOLUTELY GOLD 🌺🌻 thanks!!
WAHOO, thanks so much I have had so much frustration opening my chook foods and my 5kg rice bags. YAY for UA-cam contributors, and a Fellow Aussie at that :D
This is the most important video ever
It worked! Thank you for the trick to remembering it too!
It didn't work on three different bags of chicken feed, I ended up taking my machete to them and tearing them apart. It worked and relieved the frustration 👍
Yes! It was so easy to open the bag for me. Thank you so much for the instruction!!
Great simple video bud, cheers!
this is the best explanation i have well done sir
I miss your videos, Scot! Keep 'em coming!
Can't believe how easy it is. How have I never gotten it right. Thanks.
Thank you. Simple and easy indeed.
Life changer! Thank you so very much!! 🎉
Best video and it worked like a charm first try.
Thank you so much for your simple video.
Thank you God bless the Internet 👍👍
Thanks, this is the 3d video I've watched on the topic and you finally explained it so I got it! The previous two I was trying L to R.
Thank you from the Old World!
This will save me a lot of heartache, thank you
Mystery solved....Thank you that man.
nice video. well done. Only change I would have made is instead of "voila" at the finish... replace with "and Bob's your uncle" . :D
Thanks mate ! You’re a legend !😊
Mate. You’re the best!
Brilliant! Thanks so much for the concise and memorable presentation. At last, an end to bag mutilation!! 😂
Excellent advice, thank you!
20 years plus(!) - thanks so much ...
Thank you so much, i wish id seen this 30 years ago!😂😂😂
Thankyou - a true boon, although I still think it's another IQ test that I failed. By careful inspection with a magnifying glass I was unable to reverse engineer how they'd interlocked the threads so as to then undo them. Anyway, got a method now!
I think I love you for this!
