Arons Channel - Nant Bonsai / @nantbonsai1377 In this video, I work on three beech trees working on the final tree to get it on its way to becoming a raft-style bonsai (Ikadabuki)
I recycle my wire too Tony and it good to see others caring for the planet and it helps the wallet stay a little healthier also.. a raft style is something i haven't done before and i will give it a go with a willow im growing. I found your link to subscibe to the new channel and i will have a look, thanks for the tip.
Fallen tree - collapsed to the ground - roots appear on the tree trunk - creating a bridge shape over it - than be raft style • this natural asimetric ,smooth & beautiful movement • VERY GOOD IMAGINATION very good planning projec
It's funny, when I was putting this video together, I was thinking that myself. I suspect at least one of these will get a substantial trunk chop in the future!
At the moment, I only have one place I can collect from and even there, I have to make sure collection takes place when 'the public' aren't around - the types of trees are also very limited to just 5-6 species. It amazes me the variety of trees you can collect. Some info on how you came across such places and what sort of places are they - private woods, lane-sides on farms etc. Did you just 'knock on owner's doors' and ask? Some interesting Beech there.
Hi Roger. I have a lot from my dads garden, and I also have some from a friend who has access to land which he rents for shooting. Also, a few are from some scrub land near the local canal where bits and bobs are just growing wild. I have recently spotted an area of unused industrial estate which is due to be redeveloped which appears to have some nice material too. Another friend of mine has a large field which he is due to landscape, so I will be heading there to do some collecting on a video next spring.
@@TonysBonsai I couldn’t agree more. I think I’ve actually left a snarky comment once which is definitely not my style but I found myself shouting SHUT UP at my iPad. 🤯
🤣🤣I once transcribed one of his sentences in the comments because it was so outrageous, but in the end I didn't post it. Having said that, new videos from Mirai are still the ones I look forward to appearing the most.
Hi Tony, just a tip: I use a normal garden pruner to get through the branch/trunk and finish off with the hybrid or whatever. In my opinion much easier. The wood can be so hard it can ruin your hybrid... I ruined mine... (basic quality) Somehow I like my beeches in broom-style. So seeing other ideas like a raft, is nice.
Hi Bart. I've really put these cutters through some tests and they have stood up really well, but I think cutting these hard branches first with secateurs is an excellent idea, and I'll definitely bear it in mind next time I have to cut some!
Thanks for the shout out - I will watch him and subscribe. We need to support all our UK creators more. I am looking forward to seeing how this raft develops but I did also wonder whether that second beech could be considered for literati - maybe? Good explanation of using wire as a cage in those circumstances. You need to play more tennis so I can actually have time to do bonsai rather than watch you do it!!!
Good shout on the literati Xavier. I am probably guilty of not really considering a beech tree for literati, but I don't suppose there is a reason why we can't use beech for that style. Big tennis match this evening away at Ribchester! I best get out there and film tomorrow video now!
I have learned alot from you. Keep up your health and videos. I kept the chopsticks with my lunch from yesterday. Not as nearly as nice as yours.
Thanks Andrew. You must be more dextrous than me. I eat Chinese with a fork! 🤣
Great video Tony good luck with them all.
Thanks Joe. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job Tony! Don’t listen to Xavier, crack on with daily videos! 😃🐦💙
🤣I've been playing snooker all day today, and a tennis match this evening, but I'll definitely film one tomorrow!
@@TonysBonsai living the life of Riley! 😂
I'm back and I pulled my calf, so I'm limping about now. I should stick to bonsai!
@@TonysBonsai 🤣😂
Another cracking video pal and looking forward to seeing them progress 🌴🌴👍
Cheers mate. Should be an interesting raft style this one. You'll have to get round here for a brew mate!
@@TonysBonsai deffo I am off work sick at the moment full of a chest infection but once its done one I will pop round.
Nice one. get well soon dude!

Hi Scot. I think it makes a lot of sense to reuse old wire, and we can use the money we save to buy more plants!

VERY GOOD IMAGINATION
very good planning projec
Thank you, and an excellent description of my thought process, and I'm really looking forward to developing these ideas.
Have a great day!
The tops definitely needed to go on those first 2 Beech. Be interesting to see this bridge-raft progress. 👍👍
Hi Guy. Yeah they definitely needed chopping down to size. Hopefully, this raft will go on to be an interesting piece!
Thanks For sharing Tony Keep us Updated on this Project Please!
Cheers Mate. 👍
Will do Bobby. I was only checking it out the other day, and I will definitely be creating the raft in early spring.
Alright Tony I think that would make a great raft, I find that corkscrew willows I have always make a good raft because of all the natural twists.
Hi Aron. I haven't got any corkscrew willows, but that sounds like it could make for a very interesting project!
Great video as usual Tony.
I would perhaps cut the beeches (not the raft) down even further but then again have no idea what size you aim for.

I look forward to see your fine beeches. I 'm going to start a raft in a month. The model is a pine around 70 years old not far from my home
Wow, that should be a very interesting project. This beech is ready to go as soon as we hit spring!

Awesome Tony. Good looking trees. Rafts are very interesting compositions. I’ll look forward to watching this one develop. Thanks, keep growing
Hi Matt. Yes, they have really intrigued me ever since I saw Ryan Neils's hornbeam raft video.
@@TonysBonsai ,, Watching Ryan’s videos really are inspirational. However,, Sets the bar a bit high for my skill set (and patience) ;-)
They can be a bit of a slog, but sometimes I am in awe of how he can say the simplest thing in the most complicated possible way! 🤣

Your new branch could of been your new leader
Good point. I did consider that Shane, and it may well end up becoming the leader in the future. I'll just wait and see.
