How i define a polyglot is that they are fluent in many languages where they can communicate enough to get around or hold a long conversation rather than learning a simple phrase in many languages

I was picking berries the other day, and the moment I heard Mandarin Chinese in the next row, I stopped everything I was doing and just stood there...alone...hidden by bushes...learning...kind of creepy actually, however, it happens! But really, it brings me so much joy to hear my target language in the air, it gives me the feeling of home.
Once I was on a bus and heard a language that I didn't recognize. Guessing purely by sound that she might understand Portuguese, I turned around and asked what language that was. "Mam", she answered. "That's Mayan?" I asked in Spanish. Mam has never been my target language, and I wasn't even sure that what she said was the name of a language.
The "choosing a language" one describes exactly what I'm going through now. Lots of options, none is quite the 'right one' And I've never been the kind of person who likes gossip, but do I take my earphones out and stretch my neck to hear what people are taking about in my target language whenever I get lucky enough to hear it? Yes. Yes I do. "Et puis il a fait ça..." And I'm like 😱 "oh my goodness, I can't believe he did that" And the personality changes lmao my friends were in shock when they saw me flirting with a guy in Italian because I'm quite shy and quiet when speaking my mother tongue

I'm not sure about a personality change. I can imagine I'm a little less blunt and maybe a little more ditzy in English than I am in Dutch xD My German and French aren't good enough to have personalities xD

I would highly advise choosing a language you can actually use with others. Lot of Spanish speaking people around you? Perhaps Spanish. No one around you speaks a word of French? Maybe not the right choice. Learn something you can/will use.
I really...dislike the people that see the outcome of your hard work no matter the skill and just aknowledge "your talent". I think these people always gave up to fast. Great video!
I don’t mind people telling me “you’re talented” but if they refuse to acknowledge the effort I put in language learning (ex: by refusing to learn languages because only “talented” people can learn) then that becomes an issue.
@@Moonsapphire419 i feel the same. I believe it takes a certain level of talent (a good ear, a decent working memory, etc) but it also takes skill. It was easy for me to learn Mandarin, that's talent. But i put hours into building my vocabulary and other skills. that's effort.
I totally experienced the "when you hear your target language" bit, EXCEPT I did it while learning ASL! Which is way worse lol - at least you can pretend to be interested in something else as you listen to a spoken language. With a signed language, you have to just try really hard not to stare!
I've asked deaf friends if it was ok to "eavesdrop" on strangers while they are conversing in ASL. They said it is expected and if they wanted to talk privately, they would just do it somewhere else. They said they appreciate people who are curious and want to learn the language. I've heard the same thing from several deaf ASL speakers.

Even if Microsoft's translator can read the French words from audio, it still doesn't understand deeper double meanings. And that one is generally more accurate.
AI will never be as good as the human brain, there is slang, idioms, double meaning, untranslatable jokes and word puns, sarcasm etc. And some languages lack nuances in one place but are richer in some other way. That's still too much to grasp for google and other artificial translators.
I'm partially deaf and I wear hearing aids. I speak Serbian (my native language) English, and i'm learning Greek currently ( and planing on learning Italian). It's hard but i'm doing my best and taking it one step at the time :)
The part about personality... The French one... Sooo spot on ! The pronounciation just as much as the personality itself was so French, I absolutely love it !!!
Practice makes perfect. To speak without accent isn't that hard if your listening comprehension is high, and you really put in effort to sound as natural as possible. My English is basically no different from a brits English, however finding foreigners who speak Swedish without an accent is something I've heard once.
Saying he has no accent is a blant lie, you can clearly identify him as a foreigner you just dont know from where tho. But his PT BR is freacking good, and he dont even need to improve much more than that, he got the brazilian manerism.

"The personality change" I relate to this the most because I'm like the guy in the video😂 When I found out personalities change depending in the languange being spoken, I thought 'not really' but when I tried speaking in different languages, I realized I'm like a different person depending in the language I speak and also my tone of voice changes😂 Also the "What's your secret" never been asked with the exact question but people would always ask how I can learn many languanges😅
There is a significant element of acting in speaking a second, or third, etc. language -- which is why so many famous actors are fluent in several languages and can speak in different accents.

Love this video. And I can totally relate to #2 and the Bus. Because although I wasn’t on an actual bus I thought I heard this family speaking Tagalog, I picked out the accent and heard the “ng” and “mga” sounds. And I instantly was glued! Then I went up to them and started speaking Tagalog and holy smokes they were so shocked then so amazed! They wanted to know so much more. It was truly a great experience.

Spanish is my first other language and I've not only eavesdropped on people, I've said a few phrases that let them know I knew what they were saying when they thought they were getting away talking about people around me.

It's always interesting to hear all sorts of languages spoken on the bus. i've heard spanish, german, a slavic language (probably bulgarian as a handful move to this area for work) and swedish.
1:12 this is by far, my biggest problem at the moment, I've been trying to learn Japanese for 5 months, but lost my motivation and now I still want to learn a foreign language, but I can't really choose any because of my lack of motivation/reasons to learn any specific language🙁😕😕
Do you have any particular interests or a community nearby that speaks a different language? For me, Spanish and French were obvious choices because I live next to one of the largest Hispanic communities in the Midwest and many of my favorite writers wrote in French. When I was seriously dating a girl whose dad's family was all German I wanted to learn, but before I learned, unfortunately she had to move and long distance wasn't going to work. I knew a lot of weebs who picked Japanese because of anime, and it's unfortunate for them that Japanese might just be the hardest large language for English speakers. A proficiency that would take a year in Dutch takes the better part of a decade in Japanese, so don't get too down on yourself. Many others have been in your shoes, and most gave up because they had no real life connection to the language. No nearby speakers or ability to visit Japan frequently. If you're British, there's a plethora of languages a short vacation away. An American of course has Spanish and French if they're near Quebec. If you live in a large city, there's probably a community that speaks a different language that you can try and make friends in and begin learning the language. If there's a specific "region" of the internet you love, then that might be an outlet for a language. For example, Russian is extremely common with certain video games. Or where I live, with some games I'll see a lot of Brazilians on servers speaking Portuguese because the game is both small and therefore has continent wide servers to fill matches and is so easy to run, you can play it on any public library computer. I have a Polish friend who became fluent in English just from playing video games without a Polish translation and a dictionary. Another Polish friend of mine loved westerns growing up, and so watched dozens and dozens of them in English. He is so good at the language I would think he was Scandinavian with how little accent he has. He speaks better English than half the native speakers I know.
#8 hit hard especially as I was watching this video ("just one more") rather than studying. Need to spend less time learning techniques and more time applying them! Learning new techniques is great, and I'm extremely thankful for the wealth of resources and tips on UA-cam, but there comes a point with technique overload... In any event, thanks for the relatable video and the awesome tips on your channel; I'm guilty of binge-watching your learning videos (along with Steve Kaufman's) and am making great progress in my target languages as a result. Sometimes the UA-cam rabbit trail helps with motivation, but I need to keep it in check so it doesn't become a means of procrastination.

I’m totally related to the” choosing a new language” part, I always got confused with picking the language that i’m going to learn next, at last I always end up with choosing two languages.
I am learning German in school, and for a while I was learning Arabic too. Then when trying to find a way other than Duolingo to learn Arabic, I found out there are different dialects, and that the person who wrote it said that you should chose the dialect that you want to learn for the place it is spoken and learning Modern Arabic (pretty sure that would be what Duolingo teaches you) isn't that important or used, only on tv or something. So now it's just, welp, I didn't plan on actually doing anything with it. I want to move to Germany so I plan on probably always continuing my learning of it. I plan on maybe start learning it again, I just have to do more research on if the Modern version is really basically useless, and how different the dialects are. But both would be cool, and you might not get them as mixed up like how you would with a different language, since they are very different.
The first one is espoused by Elon Musk, he thinks people are wasting time learning langs because soon "we'd all have translating chips in our brains" lol. Language is not just a verbal code, it's much more.
to some degree he is right. I find it much more valuable being extremely fluent in 2 languages than wasting your time reaching a 10 year old level ability when you could be doing something more useful
@@nfrankiksa4596 I think it depends on what you want out of language. Obviously you can communicate with a lot of different people when you learn more of them, even with a ten year olds understanding. That's a valuable thing to have if you ask me. But if you want to become really good at just two languages that's also a valuable thing to have, you can have deeper conversations in either one, and obviously you never stop learning no matter what route you choose to take. I wouldn't call either decision a waste of time or say it's not useful though.
I took a couple Japanese classes in high school but mostly just watched a ton of anime, and I loved your Japanese personality. Really brought me back. Part of me almost wants to learn it. In high school I took 5 years of Spanish but never got conversationally fluent. I'm a year and a half into learning Hebrew and I feel like I know so little still :( I've been on Duolingo. My motivation is to read the bible. Duolingo thinks I'm going on a business trip to Israel...

Many people think that only the smartest people can learn other languages but in my point of view speak a different language doesn't make you smarter but happier.
One recurring problem for me is the predictive text on my phone not guessing the word I'm actually typing, but showing me a handful of similar suggestions in different languages

Definitely can relate to which language to choose: English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Chinese -all at B2 or higher. Now learning Italian on Busuu and by extensive reading. Once I hit B2 - probably around February-March of 2023 - will move on to a new language. Must be Korean, or Latin, or Russian. One of those three, but then again, Portuguese would be so easy now...
One of my objective in life is to speak French, English, Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, and German. For the moment (I'm 16), I speak French and English and I'm learning Norwegian and Spanish. One thing I like to do, when I feel like I’ve mastered a language sufficiently to carry on an everyday conversation with native speakers, is to speed through a course of English in that language. I’ve found that it really helps me feel like my studies in that language have come full circle, so to speak, and it’s always an eye-opener, or rather a mind-opener, to see just how English is broken down and learned “in reverse” (from my perspective) by speakers of other languages around the globe. It’s really fun how French accent is hard and tough for foreigners. I’m French actually and I love watching polyglots’ videos. And I notice that they struggle a lot (and probably more than for other languages) to learn the French accent and all the grammar 😅. And even for French people French is tricky bc we do some mistakes and more often than you can imagine !
Number 4 is sooo relatable. I study Russian, and always when I'm on the train and I hear someone speak Russian I'm like "Please speak louder cause I cannot understand you!!" It's so rude, geesh
I remember when I was having conversations in my native language (I'm swedish) and my thoughts were in italian, so for every swedish sentence I wanted to say, I had to translate from italian first.
Hilarious acting, thumbs up! Google Translate may not be for the purpose of instant translation, but it certainly helps in learning languages. I find it useful for understanding languages and in writing, when I know a certain word in a language but do not know the equivalence in another language.
I don't think my personality changes across languages. It might be more difficult to find suitable words in each of them but the personality stays the same. The most annoying people are those that think languages require talent only. It took me years to get where I am with English now and it still lacks the richness of expressions.
That first one sounds like an ad for a new iGizmo, where you hold it up to your face, say something, then when you turn it around, it makes a sophisticated sounding ding and repeats what you said in the other language. Both parties are, of course, thrilled, no doubt entertaining thoughts of how wonderful it would be if they could use this device in all of their daily conversations.
Lolol I love and relate to of all of these 😆 specially when it comes to hearing my target language. I literally feel like my ears perk up like a dog and try to get physcially closer to hear better without seeming weird or rude 😆
THE PERSONALITY CHANGE, i swear it's true. Spanish is my native language, i'm just like always in "momento pana" JAJAJ. In english i change the accent and talk to my mom to annoy her while shopping JAJAJ i'm in french language mode most of the time at home so, i'm just like- however "despotricando/desahogando" is said in english. I'm always in the "je sais pas, je sais pas-" phase, and saying "cuchaga" when speaking spanish again is my passion. Recently, when i started practicing italian i used it to talk about my crush and how "questa situazione è ridicolaaaa", i love it.

As a polyglot Indian, I laugh at google translate when I try to translate my languages to English. Some of them are not right. 😂 But let me tell you one thing, mother tongue is not just a language, it’s an emotion. the emotion in your mother tongue cannot be expressed or translated in English 😭 I think I’m a polyglot because I know these languages Tamizh (mother language) Kannada (state language) Hindi (national language) English (global language) French (duolingo) Spanish (duolingo) I’m technically still a polyglot, coz I’m fluent in 4 languages. The bus one hits way too hard 😭 a few years ago I was on the bus with my mum and there was this woman opposite s talking on the phone rlly loudly in Spanish, it seemed like she wasn’t worried about her volume bcos it’s England and not many ppl here know Spanish. But little did she know the shy 13 yr old opposite her understand perfectly what she was saying. So I was translating and whispering it to my mum. It was so entertaining, turns out she was cheating on her rich husband with a fit dude and was caught that morning 😂👀
1:14 this is exactly why I only speak 2 languages thus far. I cannot pick a language. I find them all so fucking fascinating and trying to pick one is so hard. I guess my main focus now is Arabic because I'm studying it at uni, but I cannot pick my "spare time" language: Welsh, Gaeilge, Gaelic, Guarani, Polish, Japanese, Mandarin, French, Catalan, Navajo, Hawaiian... I've got every single language available on Duolingo (I know, but it's a decent starting point) for Spanish and English speakers on the go. People ask me why I learned my second language and I honestly have no idea at all- I have no idea how I picked it or why.
I speak three languages (Italian, German and English). I'd like to start learning one more this fall and I also can't decide which one. It's either French or Low German. There are few people who speak Low German where I live, but it's not a language you can use in everyday life. Still I found it very interesting.
One of the main problems to most polyglots (not to all) I think is what I call the "Jack of all trades master of none" syndrome, that is the incapacity to focus in any of the languages we speak so we become an authority, experts on the subject. We get so keen to learn a bunch of languages to have fun or even manage to comunicate in several of them with a very nice level but there will always be someone better than us in that specific language for which we are applying for an interpreter or translator job, as a teacher or whatever because he or she is an specialist in that language and has been focusing and working on it their entire life (in one or two languages at most, besides their mother tongue). It all depends on your goals but if you like languages and want to work in something related to languages and become a polyglot, I think it is important to find that one or (at most) two foreign language (besides your mother tongue, in which you should also be an authority) which I call "working or job languages" to focus, even though you "have fun" with a bunch of other languages but not give up so many time for them to the detriment of your working languages, otherwise it will be a "lost of time" as the guy in the video says... But of course if your goal is only to have fun and comunicate that's another story.
One thing for me is when people who know me in one language hear me speaking another. I remember once some friends were visiting me in the US from Italy and kept laughing everytime I spoke english. They said it was funny to hear me speak it. I've also found myself in situations where I had to interpret between languages and I worried I was using the wrong word or phrase.
I was listening to this while foam rolling and the personality change portion was super funny as I knew phonetically that he switched from French to Br Portuguese to Japanese but I can only understand Eu Portuguese! I used to code switch a lot when I was younger switching between 4 languages I don't think my personality changes at all.
1:39: 😅 I chose swedish and italian... but I decided to focus on swedish because learning two new languages at the same time is not easy. It's difficult to "keep" the languages I learned in lycée (german and russian). Je me contente de garder le niveau nécessaire pour les vacances sur place. Pour l'italien, il me manque un déclic.

every time, when someone says "you have a talent to know all of those languages", I say "no, I have a lot of patience to learn them" :)

I don’t mind people telling me “you’re talented” but if they refuse to acknowledge the effort I put in language learning (ex: by refusing to learn languages because only “talented” people can learn) then that becomes an issue.
@@Moonsapphire419 i feel the same. I believe it takes a certain level of talent (a good ear, a decent working memory, etc) but it also takes skill. It was easy for me to learn Mandarin, that's talent. But i put hours into building my vocabulary and other skills. that's effort.

I totally experienced the "when you hear your target language" bit, EXCEPT I did it while learning ASL! Which is way worse lol - at least you can pretend to be interested in something else as you listen to a spoken language. With a signed language, you have to just try really hard not to stare!

I've asked deaf friends if it was ok to "eavesdrop" on strangers while they are conversing in ASL. They said it is expected and if they wanted to talk privately, they would just do it somewhere else.
They said they appreciate people who are curious and want to learn the language. I've heard the same thing from several deaf ASL speakers.

Even if Microsoft's translator can read the French words from audio, it still doesn't understand deeper double meanings. And that one is generally more accurate.
In Swedish 'du är så snäll' lit. means 'you are so kind' while it really means I dislike you. Because Sarcasm is important.
AI will never be as good as the human brain, there is slang, idioms, double meaning, untranslatable jokes and word puns, sarcasm etc. And some languages lack nuances in one place but are richer in some other way. That's still too much to grasp for google and other artificial translators.

I'm partially deaf and I wear hearing aids. I speak Serbian (my native language) English, and i'm learning Greek currently ( and planing on learning Italian). It's hard but i'm doing my best and taking it one step at the time :)

Practice makes perfect. To speak without accent isn't that hard if your listening comprehension is high, and you really put in effort to sound as natural as possible. My English is basically no different from a brits English, however finding foreigners who speak Swedish without an accent is something I've heard once.
Saying he has no accent is a blant lie, you can clearly identify him as a foreigner you just dont know from where tho.
But his PT BR is freacking good, and he dont even need to improve much more than that, he got the brazilian manerism.

"The personality change" I relate to this the most because I'm like the guy in the video😂 When I found out personalities change depending in the languange being spoken, I thought 'not really' but when I tried speaking in different languages, I realized I'm like a different person depending in the language I speak and also my tone of voice changes😂 Also the "What's your secret" never been asked with the exact question but people would always ask how I can learn many languanges😅
There is a significant element of acting in speaking a second, or third, etc. language -- which is why so many famous actors are fluent in several languages and can speak in different accents.

Love this video. And I can totally relate to #2 and the Bus. Because although I wasn’t on an actual bus I thought I heard this family speaking Tagalog, I picked out the accent and heard the “ng” and “mga” sounds. And I instantly was glued! Then I went up to them and started speaking Tagalog and holy smokes they were so shocked then so amazed! They wanted to know so much more. It was truly a great experience.

Spanish is my first other language and I've not only eavesdropped on people, I've said a few phrases that let them know I knew what they were saying when they thought they were getting away talking about people around me.
I don't do as well listening in to other people speaking to each other. Maybe I just haven't done it enough. Finnish! Ouch! All the others are Indo-European. Is that your native tongue? May I ask? Yo espero que la pregunta no esta(está?) antipatico.

This is kinda unrelated but your accent is so nice! Maybe it’s just my American ears but it’s very soothing! Also, though I’m not a polyglot (yet 🤞🏾) I can definitely relate to some of these 😭. Especially the choosing a language and hearing your target language on the bus.
When you mentioned having to choose between Italian and Swedish it was so relatable. Recently I had to make that decision on which one I wanted to learn with a friend, and I chose italian

It's always interesting to hear all sorts of languages spoken on the bus. i've heard spanish, german, a slavic language (probably bulgarian as a handful move to this area for work) and swedish.
1:12 this is by far, my biggest problem at the moment, I've been trying to learn Japanese for 5 months, but lost my motivation and now I still want to learn a foreign language, but I can't really choose any because of my lack of motivation/reasons to learn any specific language🙁😕😕
Do you have any particular interests or a community nearby that speaks a different language? For me, Spanish and French were obvious choices because I live next to one of the largest Hispanic communities in the Midwest and many of my favorite writers wrote in French. When I was seriously dating a girl whose dad's family was all German I wanted to learn, but before I learned, unfortunately she had to move and long distance wasn't going to work.
I knew a lot of weebs who picked Japanese because of anime, and it's unfortunate for them that Japanese might just be the hardest large language for English speakers. A proficiency that would take a year in Dutch takes the better part of a decade in Japanese, so don't get too down on yourself. Many others have been in your shoes, and most gave up because they had no real life connection to the language. No nearby speakers or ability to visit Japan frequently.
If you're British, there's a plethora of languages a short vacation away. An American of course has Spanish and French if they're near Quebec.
If you live in a large city, there's probably a community that speaks a different language that you can try and make friends in and begin learning the language.
If there's a specific "region" of the internet you love, then that might be an outlet for a language. For example, Russian is extremely common with certain video games. Or where I live, with some games I'll see a lot of Brazilians on servers speaking Portuguese because the game is both small and therefore has continent wide servers to fill matches and is so easy to run, you can play it on any public library computer.
I have a Polish friend who became fluent in English just from playing video games without a Polish translation and a dictionary. Another Polish friend of mine loved westerns growing up, and so watched dozens and dozens of them in English. He is so good at the language I would think he was Scandinavian with how little accent he has. He speaks better English than half the native speakers I know.
#8 hit hard especially as I was watching this video ("just one more") rather than studying. Need to spend less time learning techniques and more time applying them! Learning new techniques is great, and I'm extremely thankful for the wealth of resources and tips on UA-cam, but there comes a point with technique overload... In any event, thanks for the relatable video and the awesome tips on your channel; I'm guilty of binge-watching your learning videos (along with Steve Kaufman's) and am making great progress in my target languages as a result. Sometimes the UA-cam rabbit trail helps with motivation, but I need to keep it in check so it doesn't become a means of procrastination.

I’m totally related to the” choosing a new language” part, I always got confused with picking the language that i’m going to learn next, at last I always end up with choosing two languages.
The 'choosing a language' one is so real 😂. I can't decide if I should learn German or Arabic next... maybe I will learn both anyways.
I am learning German in school, and for a while I was learning Arabic too. Then when trying to find a way other than Duolingo to learn Arabic, I found out there are different dialects, and that the person who wrote it said that you should chose the dialect that you want to learn for the place it is spoken and learning Modern Arabic (pretty sure that would be what Duolingo teaches you) isn't that important or used, only on tv or something. So now it's just, welp, I didn't plan on actually doing anything with it. I want to move to Germany so I plan on probably always continuing my learning of it. I plan on maybe start learning it again, I just have to do more research on if the Modern version is really basically useless, and how different the dialects are. But both would be cool, and you might not get them as mixed up like how you would with a different language, since they are very different.
The first one is espoused by Elon Musk, he thinks people are wasting time learning langs because soon "we'd all have translating chips in our brains" lol. Language is not just a verbal code, it's much more.

to some degree he is right. I find it much more valuable being extremely fluent in 2 languages than wasting your time reaching a 10 year old level ability when you could be doing something more useful
@@nfrankiksa4596 I think it depends on what you want out of language. Obviously you can communicate with a lot of different people when you learn more of them, even with a ten year olds understanding. That's a valuable thing to have if you ask me. But if you want to become really good at just two languages that's also a valuable thing to have, you can have deeper conversations in either one, and obviously you never stop learning no matter what route you choose to take. I wouldn't call either decision a waste of time or say it's not useful though.
I took a couple Japanese classes in high school but mostly just watched a ton of anime, and I loved your Japanese personality. Really brought me back. Part of me almost wants to learn it. In high school I took 5 years of Spanish but never got conversationally fluent. I'm a year and a half into learning Hebrew and I feel like I know so little still :( I've been on Duolingo. My motivation is to read the bible. Duolingo thinks I'm going on a business trip to Israel...

Definitely can relate to which language to choose: English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Chinese -all at B2 or higher. Now learning Italian on Busuu and by extensive reading. Once I hit B2 - probably around February-March of 2023 - will move on to a new language. Must be Korean, or Latin, or Russian. One of those three, but then again, Portuguese would be so easy now...
One of my objective in life is to speak French, English, Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, and German. For the moment (I'm 16), I speak French and English and I'm learning Norwegian and Spanish. The problem is : I am very bad at speaking Spanish. My accent is horrible! I am ashamed of it, so I'm scared to try, and 8 don't get better

I love this this part because formulaic languages like this in communicative-pragmatic context are more than often untranslatable via simple translators using word substitutions, especially into different language families.

One thing I like to do, when I feel like I’ve mastered a language sufficiently to carry on an everyday conversation with native speakers, is to speed through a course of English in that language. I’ve found that it really helps me feel like my studies in that language have come full circle, so to speak, and it’s always an eye-opener, or rather a mind-opener, to see just how English is broken down and learned “in reverse” (from my perspective) by speakers of other languages around the globe. It’s really fun how French accent is hard and tough for foreigners. I’m French actually and I love watching polyglots’ videos. And I notice that they struggle a lot (and probably more than for other languages) to learn the French accent and all the grammar 😅. And even for French people French is tricky bc we do some mistakes and more often than you can imagine !

Number 4 is sooo relatable. I study Russian, and always when I'm on the train and I hear someone speak Russian I'm like "Please speak louder cause I cannot understand you!!" It's so rude, geesh
I remember when I was having conversations in my native language (I'm swedish) and my thoughts were in italian, so for every swedish sentence I wanted to say, I had to translate from italian first.

Google Translate may not be for the purpose of instant translation, but it certainly helps in learning languages. I find it useful for understanding languages and in writing, when I know a certain word in a language but do not know the equivalence in another language.
I don't think my personality changes across languages. It might be more difficult to find suitable words in each of them but the personality stays the same.
The most annoying people are those that think languages require talent only. It took me years to get where I am with English now and it still lacks the richness of expressions.

As a polyglot Indian, I laugh at google translate when I try to translate my languages to English. Some of them are not right. 😂
But let me tell you one thing, mother tongue is not just a language, it’s an emotion. the emotion in your mother tongue cannot be expressed or translated in English 😭

I've had a good laugh with this video and the previous one and could relate with many things although I'm far from speaking 8 languages.
The bus one hits way too hard 😭 a few years ago I was on the bus with my mum and there was this woman opposite s talking on the phone rlly loudly in Spanish, it seemed like she wasn’t worried about her volume bcos it’s England and not many ppl here know Spanish. But little did she know the shy 13 yr old opposite her understand perfectly what she was saying. So I was translating and whispering it to my mum. It was so entertaining, turns out she was cheating on her rich husband with a fit dude and was caught that morning 😂👀

1:14 this is exactly why I only speak 2 languages thus far. I cannot pick a language. I find them all so fucking fascinating and trying to pick one is so hard. I guess my main focus now is Arabic because I'm studying it at uni, but I cannot pick my "spare time" language: Welsh, Gaeilge, Gaelic, Guarani, Polish, Japanese, Mandarin, French, Catalan, Navajo, Hawaiian... I've got every single language available on Duolingo (I know, but it's a decent starting point) for Spanish and English speakers on the go.
People ask me why I learned my second language and I honestly have no idea at all- I have no idea how I picked it or why.
I speak three languages (Italian, German and English). I'd like to start learning one more this fall and I also can't decide which one. It's either French or Low German. There are few people who speak Low German where I live, but it's not a language you can use in everyday life. Still I found it very interesting.
One of the main problems to most polyglots (not to all) I think is what I call the "Jack of all trades master of none" syndrome, that is the incapacity to focus in any of the languages we speak so we become an authority, experts on the subject. We get so keen to learn a bunch of languages to have fun or even manage to comunicate in several of them with a very nice level but there will always be someone better than us in that specific language for which we are applying for an interpreter or translator job, as a teacher or whatever because he or she is an specialist in that language and has been focusing and working on it their entire life (in one or two languages at most, besides their mother tongue). It all depends on your goals but if you like languages and want to work in something related to languages and become a polyglot, I think it is important to find that one or (at most) two foreign language (besides your mother tongue, in which you should also be an authority) which I call "working or job languages" to focus, even though you "have fun" with a bunch of other languages but not give up so many time for them to the detriment of your working languages, otherwise it will be a "lost of time" as the guy in the video says... But of course if your goal is only to have fun and comunicate that's another story.

One thing for me is when people who know me in one language hear me speaking another. I remember once some friends were visiting me in the US from Italy and kept laughing everytime I spoke english. They said it was funny to hear me speak it. I've also found myself in situations where I had to interpret between languages and I worried I was using the wrong word or phrase.
I relate to #2 very strongly.
I was listening to this while foam rolling and the personality change portion was super funny as I knew phonetically that he switched from French to Br Portuguese to Japanese but I can only understand Eu Portuguese! I used to code switch a lot when I was younger switching between 4 languages I don't think my personality changes at all.
1:39: 😅 I chose swedish and italian... but I decided to focus on swedish because learning two new languages at the same time is not easy. It's difficult to "keep" the languages I learned in lycée (german and russian). Je me contente de garder le niveau nécessaire pour les vacances sur place. Pour l'italien, il me manque un déclic.
