      @@broderickedwards3226 I'm with you, I'm about 2 yrs. in the hobby so I'm still new too. I know of the San Antonio Aquatic plant club but that's mostly an internet based club. I hang mostly around fintique. Most people I've talked to have no idea what aquascaping is. Some know what Amano shrimp are but have no idea who he was! lol I guess we have to raise more interest out here. I would be all for meet ups. I have tons of crypts, and shrimp I'd love to trade! I know Texas Marine and Tropical sometimes sell Tropica products but that's not often. Good to meet another scapist!

      Super Miura I’m with you on raising interest around here. I set my first tank up exactly two months ago so I’m very brand new. That was after months of research though. I’ve been trying too convince some friends into letting me set up a shrimp tank for them. I’ve been to fintique and Texas marine. Salty fish is starting to have more plants as well. I honestly got most of my plants online. I’m down to meet up at some point. I’ll end up having some rotala, ludwigia, and s. repens cuttings.

    Hi George,great if not short video, would have been great to see it planted. The wood is such a dominant piece in the scape that it almost doesn’t need a lot of plants, a wood version of an Iwagumi. Possibly a carpet and some tall stem plants to the rear on one side and maybe some Anubias or Bucephalandra’s tucked into the crevices. It will be great to see what they decide. All the best,Martin

    Great video, stunning hardscape. Really like those dark rocks and that huge trunk piece of wood is amazing. Hope to see this tank get planted and as for stocking I'd definitely like to see that beautiful group of red harlequin rasboras go back in there, I need to find me some of those for one of my own aquascapes. Also, think I'd stock with some amano shrimp and some Ottos or panda gara.

    • @ManicMindTrick
      @ManicMindTrick 5 років тому +2

      I have not seen such a thing in a shop either but I've seen a lot of these trunks in the wild. I travel to the wilderness in Norway and Sweden and you find these pieces on the bank of medium to large rivers a lot of times washed up in an upright position. Most of these are from conifers though which can leech harmful substances in the water if they're too fresh and can also break down too quickly. Past summer I was at a large lake that was regulated and they had lowered the water line by 20 meters and exposed a whole forest of old trunks and whole trees.

    It's a very nice aquascape. I think that the hardscape would suit a more natural and chaotic planting scheme. So I think that a mixed carpet of Monte Carlo and Marsilea, transitioning to Hairgrass and Cryptocorynes, then Giant Hairgrass, Cryptocoryne or Crinum, Bucephalandra and Anubias on the rocks and lower sections of wood, Needle Leaf and Trident Fern on the top of the wood and maybe some emergent moss would be a good selection.

    Looking good George. I would have a simple carpet, a few Buce’s dotted amongst the rocks and something taller at the back, crypts or hydrophilia maybe? I just think it would be a shame to cover that wood and the nooks with too many plants.

    Big wood like that trunk is tough for the average guy to find...in my one year of experience at least. It’s a nice piece!
    How much of the individual hardscape pieces do you get to choose or does ADG choose?
    Looks great so far.
    Question: How long has using hard scape, mostly wood, that protrudes above the surface and sometimes the rim?
    I imagine there might be a connection between rimless, hoodless tanks and their growing use.
    And did an Aquascaper start it with a design or piece of work?
    Is Aquascaping something taught formal classes, like Community College or University?
    Sorry I’m geeking out.

      Manuel T I've considered this before. I would be cautious as to how much bioload you add and to grow a healthy mass of plants. Remember that Reef aquariums often have about 1/2 the bioload of freshwater aquariums and they tend to have higher flow and also skimmers. James Wong has used no-tech (except lights) before and his fish have done fine, but I think the stocking levels were lower than a typical aquarium and the plant mass was impressive.
