Camaro Arctic 2.0 since about 4 Years, with Neoprene-Socks and Rockboots: satisfied. Mares Kevlar XR: since about 1 Year with standard Boots: also satisfied so far. Undergarment: ScubeForce X-Nine: Best I found so far.
Santi emotion+ but only with a few dives yet and as a drysuit newbie so I cant really say much. But as my primary dive shop is a Santi test center, many divers I dive with have Santi suits and are really satisfied.
I’ve got a cave instructors old dui tls350. And I just got an aqualung fusion bullet yesterday for free from a guy so. I’m all about free and cheap. Especially on the life support stuff. I just have my guy rebuild it and it’s good as new
I have the same D7X as you, but I am in Australia. I researched a lot before buying and really wanted that suit, but could not find a store with one to try-on. Had to order direct from Waterproof via their sizing chart only, and import it. It took >3mths to arrive and was such a huge gamble but it fits perfect and I love it - I got very very lucky I think ;-) The only fault I could say is that the boots fit my foot correctly, but are a bit large/bulky externally wrt removing RK3's or Jet Fins, like before climbing back into a boat the fins are very hard to take OFF. PS: I recently fitted a Light Monkey P-valve to mine which is good quality construction, and compact.
Hello, looking to get some info on GUE/DIR drysuit dump valve position. I see that most drysuit manufacturers offer this option, but haven't been able to find information, photos or videos showing the location and benefits. Could you provide some insight?
After talking with Fourth Element, sounds like the GUE/DIR placement is more on the tricep vs the flat part of bicep. It only moves the valve back apprx 2 in (5.1cm) to allow for optimum dumping vs standard placement on left arm. However, they also didn't recommend it for people with limited upper body mobility.
Servus Doktor Ben! I like your videos and they are quite useful in that they have both influenced me and now are preparing me to take my GUE "fundy" course this summer in Ohio. In the fall, I have my MBA reunion in Rotterdam - maybe if you have a course to extend on my learning by then, I will look you up! (Of course, if COVID ever behaves, or the humans behave!)
Wish I knew what I was looking for when I bought my (first) drysuite. I own a bare aquatrek. Was the cheapest trilaminate suite. But it's not very rugit and very thin. That makes it prone to leaks very easy and had a bunch last year. Most likely spend the price difference for a bit better suite in repairs. It's very flexible though. Makes v-drills a bit more easy.
Can you share a link to the tech shorts you show in the video? I wanted to buy the Fourth Element ones, but they've been out of stock for months now. Looking for a cheap replacement until they restock, but all the ones I've found so far look like their pockets are too small....
Well…you can. But in some situations the space maybe too limited and they may interfere with stages, light canister etc. that’s why I prefer pockets on the thighs.
Thank you for creating this series! Somewhat off topic question for you...Different agencies have different minimum age requirements, and GUE seems to require the oldest age (16) for Rec 1. Other agencies list 10 or 12. What is GUE's rationale for the age requirement? Thanks!!
Hypothetically, if there was a GUE expedition on a live aboard ship, and only doing single tank dives, would most GUE divers choose to dive dry or wet if water temperatures were 27C? Thank you !
Depends on the people essentially. Given that many GUE divers do stinky not own wet suits, maybe they’d dive dry suits. Still I could imagine being in a wet suite in these conditions.
In your description of neoprene dry suits you correctly point out that they compress at depth; however you make no mention of the availability of compressed neoprene dry suits that largely avoid this problem. Is there a problem with using compressed neoprene for tech diving?
Neil Egerton I dive the DUI zip seals drygloves. They are nice but since they’re fixed to the suit all the time, it‘s a bit difficult while dressing up since the dexterity tends towards zero ;) I used the DiLo system a long time and it’s really good, although the rings could be less bulky.
Never owned or even used a Santi in my life. So no, it’s not Santi and you don’t have to have one. In fact, I personally find Santi suits to be heavily overpriced for what you really get
Yeah, unfrtunately, they are mostly a bit pricy...Do you have a suit already in mind? Regarding Sidemount: No, the Fundamentals Class is only available in Backmount. However, there is a GUE Cave Sidemount Class.
Which drysuit do you guys use currently?
Camaro Arctic 2.0 since about 4 Years, with Neoprene-Socks and Rockboots: satisfied.
Mares Kevlar XR: since about 1 Year with standard Boots: also satisfied so far.

I only had a Camaro wetsuit. Never used Camaro or Mares.
Cressi neoprene one 4mm thickness on Portugal cold water like 12-20 degrees Celsius temperature.

Have an Otter Britannic and Santi Espace. Otter suits are bombproof.

I use waterproof D7X Drysuit and I love it so far. Thank you for all your personal opinions.
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching!
@@DoktorBEN I'm in the U.S can you recommend a GUE program where I live. Thank you.
Fundamentals definitely!

I love the quote about the bitterness of poor quality. Great video!
I love it, too. It’s so true 😄
Which boot option did you go with for your dui suit?
Turbo Soles
Hello, looking to get some info on GUE/DIR drysuit dump valve position. I see that most drysuit manufacturers offer this option, but haven't been able to find information, photos or videos showing the location and benefits. Could you provide some insight?
The position should allow easy access and gas dumping, meaning it’s preferably on the left upper arm
Do a lot of these recommendations apply for cave 1? I did fundamentals in a 3mm in Hawaii, but I don’t think it will cut it for cave.
Yes, most recommendations are as well suitable for C1

Oh yeah... just reach out to me on ben@gue.com.... at least we could go diving!
@@DoktorBEN ja wohl!!!!
Thank you very much for the sharing provided.
This is simply GUE's online video textbook.
I would like to ask, what is the shooting equipment?
Shooting of what? The videos themselves?
@@DoktorBEN Yep,
I shoot pretty much everything on the Sony a6400 or the a6000.

Yeah I bought done drysuits before I got a good one. That’s why I try to share my experience.

I don’t find the ones I have anymore. Apeks has them (amzn.to/3vDYJ6r) but they’re not really cheap.
What´s your opinion on the Bare X mission evolution drysuit?
Can we use pockets that attach to the harness belt, instead of thigh pockets?
Well…you can. But in some situations the space maybe too limited and they may interfere with stages, light canister etc. that’s why I prefer pockets on the thighs.

I don’t know for sure what the thought process was when creating these classes. Primarily medical reasons I guess. Maybe liability.
@@DoktorBEN thank you!

Nice Videos :) Could you make a Video where you can show us, how to permenat mark your stage? Like get your name on it, how you do it.
Sure! No problem!
In your description of neoprene dry suits you correctly point out that they compress at depth; however you make no mention of the availability of compressed neoprene dry suits that largely avoid this problem. Is there a problem with using compressed neoprene for tech diving?
No it’s not. However, there are only very few manufacturers making real crushed neoprene suits like the DUI CF200, more compressed neoprene.
I saw which Drysuit you recommend but I see it comes with no side pockets so why would you recommend this Drysuit ?
It does…so I ordered it directly with pockets!
@@DoktorBEN oh okay I didn't see pockets in the photo they had. I was just wondering. Thank you.
my speakers and your mic i cant hear it.will have to find another

One question I forgot to add, Am I able to dive sidemount in a gue fundies?
No your a stroke.

Yeah I’m serious. Sidemount is a tool for caves. That’s why GUE has only a cave sidemount class.
