With only the technology of the 70's, 80's, even 90's to do what these guys and other accomplished then is truly amazing. I just shake my head at the equipment/kit they had to work with (bungees, straps, early dry suits, old K valves, everything was homemade). The early cave divers in Mexico and Florida also. Thanks to those pioneers that put it all on the line, we stand on their shoulders.
They started cave diving in Yorkshire in the 1930s it was with parts of a bike set. And the man was the 1st to put down a safety line on his dives. Yorkshire has a lit of history with cave diving.
Absolutely. People die all the time doing this even with today's tech/equipment. I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must have been to accomplish something like this, that long ago. Those very 1st divers/cavers in 1952 only using "diving grease" to keep warm. That's crazy.
Top video. This shows why our British cousins are amongst the best Puddle Jumpers in the world. Congratulations lads. From an old Australian Cave Diver. Michael.
What a great piece of video you put together. Gold in the bottom of the cave of UA-cam. Bloody love it when the Brits to understated documentary. Like watching about the TT.
You have one awesome channel for diving..it's called DIVE TALK where 2 proffesional divers talk about diving and they reacting on other divers videos. Awesome!
Wow just wow.!! You guys are fantastic people and it is a huge pleasure to have known and still know some of you. Those Saturday nights in the Craven Heifer and the Hill Inn. Many a Pot hole bottomed in the bar sinking a few pint Pots. What a extraordinary time to have experienced. Cheers Sid , Geof and the guys. Just amazing!!!! 😮
Impressive! Awesome video you posted, just earned a new subscriber too! I could never imagine what it is like down there, but thanks to people like these I can get a glimpse of that world! Thank you brave explorers, for your time and excitement and sharing it with the world!!
Outstanding. Im so glad I was around and involved in the outdoor pursuits in the Uk in the late 80 and 90's I recall reading about this at the time. Thanks for sharing this superb example of human spirit and acheivment, an example for todays adventures to follow..
I’d put these guys on level with the lunar astronauts. The equipment they had is nothing compared to today and people still die doing this stuff. In a place totally alien and inaccessible to rescue. Pioneers. Lunatics. Awesome.
When the divers went into the Thai cave to get the stuck football team,(D'oh!) They took valium to give to the boys to stop any anxiety and panic when coming out.. I would need several to go in!
They actually gave them an anesthesia and the children were completely asleep. There is a fascinating documentary here on UA-cam. I forget the name but it's like 45-60 minutes long.
*Thai cave rescue* (Advexon TV) ua-cam.com/video/a4GqD0B-KjI/v-deo.html *Divers detail the Thailand cave rescue* (Four Corners / ABC News) ua-cam.com/video/-esjQLvsgTs/v-deo.html Plus, of course, 'The Rescue', currently on Netflix but not UA-cam.
Aymene Megri I’m an advanced level 2 as well and I’ve been (amateur) cave diving for a while. Here in northwest Florida there are several caves at springs with easy access. Most of them aren’t very forgiving for rookies if you venture past the grim reaper sign it’s up to your skill, self control, and gear (mainly gear tbh, even if you do everything right and your rig shits the bed that’s all she wrote for you unless you have a little bailout bottle but even then there’s no guarantee) to get back to the surface again, I know my limits and have exceeded them on more than one occasion and I can tell you I’m lucky to be typing this comment. A few times I let the situation go completely out of my control, and it’s a scary feeling when that happens and you only realize it in the moment. Caves don’t care what your after dive plans are, if they want to keep you, bet your ass they will keep you. I’ve had a couple close calls and I can honestly tell you it happens a lot faster than you think. A perfect dive, tons of fun, and all the sudden some dick swims in behind you, silts up the cave and leaves. And you didn’t go in with a lifeline because, “oh we aren’t going in that far” and bam! “Oh fuck, I can’t see the exit”, then you look over at your dive buddy and his eyes are big as silver dollars. It can happen quick man. But yes it’s TONS of fun. BE CAREFUL. And know your limits and don’t exceed them. AND ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use a lifeline. Silt is a fickle bitch. And ALWAYS three flashlights. Minimum. One is none, two is one, and three is better. And a decent dive knife. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to cut away a tangle in some random line somebody left, that shut is floating around a lot more than you would think and a good tangle can drown you FAST. OH and definitely take all this with a grain LARGE grain of salt, I’m a super rookie amateur man. I recommend the training. But remember this. 1. Know your limits 2. Always use a lifeline 3. Always minimum of three lights. 4. Always have a knife.
I heard a very experienced cave diver say, the people he wants in his cave diving club. 1st they must have been covers 1st then taken up diving, then cave diving. If it's the other way around and they not been in caves b4? Then shit can happen very fast and they panic, even the most experienced open water diver, and it's all in the word open water diver. And that came from one of the men that 1st started cave diving in the UK. They started with old bike parts to help them breath under water, well it did not help and he also was the one that started to use a safety line going into caves. I live in North Yorkshire right close too a lot of caves, I like pot holing myself, I learnt to scuba many years ago well over 25yrs now. But I would never cave dive..
@@jordannewsom4578 thank you so much for your precious advice . Means alot sir . We had some fun but it’s scary . Caves are way crazier than any other kind of diving . Side-mount is the reason i love that kind of dives . Hope you’re still diving and having fun .
I could never do this, but I really enjoy watching it on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing this experience with me in the only way I can tolerate it, it's absolutely amazing. 💯
I found it odd that there were fish swimming in the caves. At 27:50 you see 2 fish swim by the guy working his way through the "cobble" squeeze. I know that there are cave fish elsewhere, but did not think they would be in a tunnel type system. Very strange, what do they eat, as I can't believe there is much food around? But hey, what the hell do I know? Just a thought. : )
Since there's water flowing into the cave system, I'm sure food will be brought in with it. It's not a closed system. Must be a harsh environment for them though.
Amazing story. These people are true pioneers. Having to find their own route, not even knowing if it can be done, with equipment less advanced than currently available. Wow.
Hands down the these two courageous souls, Extremely dangerous. To me cave diving is a senseless risk, there's nothing to really see. I dove Devil's Den in Florida it was scary and not fun at all.
I would never do it. And I'm very brave. I'm not afraid of it, I just don't want to be there. I thoroughly enjoy looking at the video and listening to people discuss it though. I can admire it from a safe distance 😉
I've only just caught up with your channel Sid, this brings back some great memories and a number of sad ones, but they were great times going back to the 70s.
as a proud yorkshireman myself, (from bratfud, or bradford as evriboddy else calls it. yorksher fowk'll know worrahm seyyin) I am reet proper prahda theez lads. true yorksher fellas.
No but Rupert, John and many others are still pushing the system in that direction in 2002 Aquamole was connected from the surface which allows easier access to the upstream end of the system and work continues.
just imagine taking a heater at that depth. pressurized poop. 4-5 flashlights ziptied to your helmet to illuminate the dook. would it explode at sea level?
Who did the sound mixing on this? It’s totally fubar. All I can hear is Darth Vader under water with a mumbly brit in the background. This is very interesting to hear first hand perspectives but dang man. Did no one listen to this?
Steeve Daw some ancient mayan artifacts have been found in tulum mexico. there is a three part documentary on youtube by gopro, definitely worth the watch!
A brilliant film, and one which I thoroughly enjoyed. My only criticism is the constant use of ' metres ' and ' kilometres '. In the UK, we still use yards and miles, not metres and kilometres, when referring to larger linear distances. Your nearest signpost will confirm this !
corinthian well, honey, you better get use to it, cause the rest of the world is using the metric system, and we are the majority! You arrogant bloof-sucking brits are not special in anything!
With only the technology of the 70's, 80's, even 90's to do what these guys and other accomplished then is truly amazing. You have one awesome channel for diving..it's called DIVE TALK where 2 proffesional divers talk about diving and they reacting on other divers videos. Awesome!
You're two years ahead of me lol what did you move on to next after watching all the cave diving shit?
I'm hyperventilating sitting on the sofa, just omg!.....you guys are crazy, but heroic at the same time.
Sid thank you for this
You guys have balls of steel
Wow just wow.!! You guys are fantastic people and it is a huge pleasure to have known and still know some of you.

I couldn’t agree more with you my friend.
This is some really hardcore diving, these guys are pioneers in cave diving.
True pioneers of cave diving.
Fabulous job Sid, first time i have stumbles on your films, being a long time follower of the British scene these are mana, thanks you
timeless & unequivocally epic; wholly inspiring at a critical time in my own life, as well 🙏🏼
Absolutely incredible! one of the most gripping films I have ever seen!
'....to sell to the tourists who flood the Yorkshire Dales' 8:34 Picturesque choice of words.
I’d put these guys on level with the lunar astronauts. The equipment they had is nothing compared to today and people still die doing this stuff. In a place totally alien and inaccessible to rescue. Pioneers. Lunatics. Awesome.
This is epic glad I found it. Been watching stuff on the Kubera Veryona excuse the spelling. Deepest cave on earth? Amazing stuff
Fantastic film and a wonderful couple of men. What an achievement. Balls of steel.
After swimming for an hour we found an old deserted black pudding mine. Ecky thump, lad!
Excellent video, totally in awe, balls of steel for sure 👍
I'd love to know what the temperature of the water was.
I just had to watch this again.
What a great channel mate.

great edit sid,captivating film.
Nicely put Michael,
Best Regards,
Gus.
there is only one word when it comes to overcoming the odds and thats "dedication"
Absolutely terrifying
Simultaneously calming too, though, their slow and measured ways of talking and moving, both above and below ground. Gymnopedic.

Excellent .video.
FANTASTIC!

Anyone know if the link has been made now?
No but Rupert, John and many others are still pushing the system in that direction in 2002 Aquamole was connected from the surface which allows easier access to the upstream end of the system and work continues.

Cheers mate
The sound of them underwater is giving me a panic attack
Interesting that those dives are done in my birth year and birth month 😄
6:02 looks like a hand gesture of 🤘🤘🤘
Amazing!!..x
I'm just going to stick to doing muff diving.
That can be as dangerous. Believe me!
i see here "British Got Talent" of might be "British Got Iron Ball" .. salute ..
Who did the sound mixing on this? It’s totally fubar. All I can hear is Darth Vader under water with a mumbly brit in the background. This is very interesting to hear first hand perspectives but dang man. Did no one listen to this?
Aye,that were grand Sid!
awesome achievement, well done
Brave guys!
This is insane, you couldn't give me a billion dollars to do this shit.
Has any cave diver found buried treasure yet?
Steeve Daw some ancient mayan artifacts have been found in tulum mexico. there is a three part documentary on youtube by gopro, definitely worth the watch!
WOW how awesome all this stepping foot where no man ever has before caving really took! These guys are my heroes
You have to have a lot of nerve to do this sort of thing. Well done.
Pretty brave.. or crazy. Either way these men are stoic.
I wonder if there ever tempted to do it again as there older but equipment is so much better.with a bit more safety & dry spell it should be ok..
They toast with Lancashire beer. D'oh!

Passive utrasonic regulator noise hud helmet. Thanks an ex diver.
The darkness is beckoning.
Lol I don’t care if I was back, in my 20s or 30 / 40s there is no way, absolutely no way would I ever go cave diving. Lol 😆
Leeds F.C. Fell into a hole never to return!!!

Braver than thou, ah'll wager
