I stood at his grave, walked the corridors of Gethsemane, talked to men who knew him and sat in a chair in his hermitage... none of which means a darn thing, but I am grateful for the experience. Now, "...let's all go have a Coke or something. Thank you very much."
Can you explain the relationship of the self beyond the ego and free will? It seems like you’re kind of reflecting Buddhist teaching that the ego is an illusion but if there is no self or ego, it seems to me there can be no free will. Thanks!
the self beyond ego, yes. the self beyond free will, no. Ego is selfish and grasping and is an expression of a disordered self. Free will rightly ordered is beyond selfishness and acquisitiveness and expresses itself transparently, generously and with great gratitude. )
The mystery is that the ego cannot answer a question about the ego. There is an inherent Holiness of Life in which there is a humble offering of the personal self including to other egos
All the major religions teach the same basic Truth which is also found in quantum physics. The Bible says Seek and ye shall find. Ask God for help as in QUESTions and look for the answers that will be presented. The Bhuddists or maybe it's the Hindus or both 🤔 say we need to find a guru to find enlightenment. The Bible I believe says we are our own guru as John the Baptist found enlightenment in the Revelation of Jesus Christ one day when he was in the Spirit. Spirit means breath in all the major religions by the way. Holy Spirit means the Spirit of Wholeness or Oneness you could say as in the communion of the Love that is written in our Hearts with that of God, the communion of the Father and Son visa vie the Holy Spirit. 🙏
@@spg77777 That is how I understand free will without having an education, or mostly what I have learned on my own. Just the way you wrote of free will is how I know or sense my experience of it, and it's importance to me. I always sense this beautiful and painful experience in the writings of Thomas Merton.
Hmmmm...sounds good but Merton with all his profound insights may have been wandering a bit off the original path he set out upon, in the end. I am still investigating his contributions.
There is much referencing of Scripture in there, such as his thoughts of himself when observing children at play: Luke 7:29-35; Matthew 6:25-34 etc.... Jesus speaks!
@@clouseauthecat181 You have to become a child again before you listen to this, become a child in the way that Jesus said you will not get into the kingdom of heaven unless you do this. (Mark 9:42-50; Matthew 18:1-4)
James Finley and the new age are responsible for the destruction of my family. He just said there is more than one way, which is a contradiction in terms. So is that the one way that there is no one way? So ask yourself if Jesus says For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish, is that only one way among many? Certainly, Finley has given his life meaning in his wisdom. I’m not buying it. He says the whole journey is about getting through the obstacle of death. Really? I thought that Jesus did that already. Though the worms destroy this body, yet, in my FLESH I shall see God.
You blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Typical hypocritical “Christian”. I bet you’re a beaut to be around. Most likely you’re the cause of the “destruction” of your family. First ye seek the Kingdom. Get ready to hear those damning words “I never knew you”.
Beautiful and deep yet elegantly simple visions of the limits of thought

What a gift. Prayfulness in the ordinary everyday is true Grace.
😊😊
I so appreciate James Finley.
What a gem this is! A treasure. I can listen to this over and over because with each listen I glean new idea, thoughts, insights.
Such exquisite delivery of a truly profound message . I adore james translation of Merton’s timeless teachings x
This is more a meditation than a talk. Merton was a truly high being
Finley interprets Thomas Merton wonderfully
James Finley - helps me move with fluidity as I pass through the temporary, but Absolute poverty of misery. Thank you for uploading these works.

Wonderful
God grant me the stealth to see me as you see me,and by seeing me and your will for me I would be enabled to Cary it out.

REALIZE THE KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS WITHIN
These guys are pretty high.

You should give up this investigation and be humbled.
Neil Strauss indeed, oh brother indeed.
These monks are pretty creepy. Read the Word
