A friend of mine once said "...but daaahlinnk, one can never have too big a craft stash..." 😂 and d'ya know, she was right!! I started crafting many years ago and kept my 'things' in a carrier bag, which progressed to a cardboard box...then of course I 'needed' a desk...took over the spare bedroom and finally ended up with a large summer house 🤣😂🤣 I love looking through beads and buttons, so satisfying!!
I bought little dresses to wear at home last summer. Nothing expensive, but some were quite colorful. A pair of earrings, a necklace made by my dearest friend Debbie and I was set for the day. Covid be gone!
I live in Hermanus, a small town that is an hours drive away from Cape Town, South Africa and I have been to that bead shop in Long Street in Cape Town. Enough to drive you mad! Was so excited to hear you mention my neck of the woods.
Hi Kate, whilst beading, you said you didn't really need them because you weren't going anywhere. Well, frock up girl, all the time, because you, my love, are going ALL OVER THE WORLD.
I collected beads and findings for about a decade. I made necklaces to add zip to my work wardrobe. It became addicting--the collecting. I put them away for some years, got them out the other day, but my tin box of pliers is missing! OH NOoooooo! I stopped wearing jewelry during covid. May start wearing some bling again. Thanks for the noodge!
I find your videos so comforting and relaxing. I used to do some beading, and now I let the grandchildren go through my bead stash and make things for their mom. Mothers appreciate all kinds of gifts, even wonky ones.
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without! I have really put that to the test this year also. I have a closet full of fabric that I have been putting to good use. I could be doing something more useful I suppose, but this keeps my mind off the reality of what is going on in the world. I think busy hands give us peace. Have a wonderful week.
Whatever the activity, at times like these if it distracts you from what’s going on around us, then it’s useful. Who’s worried about whether the windows have been cleaned or not, they’ll be there for another day! Take care, stay safe, and do whatever gives pleasure and fulfilment!
The necklace turned out quite lovely! I kept thinking “someday Agnes is going to have a lot of fun!” You two can make necklaces and bracelets together. 😊

Thank you Naseemah for explaining the meaning of the colors and shapes. How interesting. I am thinking the ladies probably tell a story with how their beads are strung. That would be so interesting to watch.

I just took down Christmas as well. I’ve decided that I really liked have everything decorated. I’m going to decorate for the Season of Love. That is what I am calling Mid January thru the end of February. I will put up lights. Purple, red and white( purple is my color like Pink is for you). I have various ideas for making heart and love decorations. Some which included the collection of beads that I have. Years ago I did a bit of bead necklace making and have all the supplies. You’re such an inspiration. I have also decided to make the best of this new lockdown. We are at our highest level here In California as well. I have made myself a January Coptic bound book to fill with all the “Good Stuff” of each day. You are definitely part of the Good Stuff!
Hi, Kate! I agree with you--wear the beads for yourself. I wear lipstick for the same reason. Can't really wear it with a mask, but at home, I'm putting it on even if it is the only makeup I wear! Thanks for a lovely chat and crafting. I sat and knit for a bit while you beaded.
Yes definitely, when I get dressed the last things are always: watch, bracelet & necklace. Makes me feel a bit special every day, especially if there is some sentimental connection to the pieces.
I agree with you I do have my own opinion about how you should choose the beads. How ever when you are finished I can't see how my why could possibly be prettier the what you end up with. You do have a gift for making beautiful things. Linda from Missouri.
After a couple of months of leggings and tee shirts, which seemed wonderful at first, I decided to wear my real world clothes and maybe even perfume, even if I'm not going anywhere. You have inspired me to take it to the accessory stage too. Why not?
Had fun with you and enjoyed try your beads- fun and I like them! I liked them when you finished! Great necklace and looks fun and creative! - yes-! - fun !😂
Being creative is very dangerous. You get an idea so you start looking for things you need, as you're digging you come across other things you haven't seen in a long time, the creative juices start flowing so you leave it out, next thing you know you have all this stuff out that's made a big mess, if you're lucky you've found what you were originally looking for and if you're really, really lucky you remember why you were looking for it and really, really, really lucky if you remember what your ideas were of all the new stuff laying about.
Yep, do it for you! I put on some perfume today just for me... just to switch gears... my daughter was stunned when I walked into the kitchen. She looked up and said, "You smell!" I haven't worn any fragrance for over 5 years! Need a change of pace. Creating things, wearing something different, trying a new recipe or technique... these are all things that help us switch gears, or focus on something pleasant for a while, aren't they? Happy creating, Kate!
I read your post with interest Renee. Many years ago, after a friend had gone through a divorce which didn’t leave her in a great place financially, she said to me that there wasn’t much that she’d mind compromising on, but she would never give up her perfume. I know exactly what she means - fragrances are so evocative!
I make lampwork beads Kate. It's a ton of fun. You are inspiring me to get back to my torch and keep making more. My son wants a bunch of transparent blue ones for creating a light fixture. I made over 200 wee bird shaped beads for his wedding 'favors' ...wish I could send a small flock of them your way. They make cute knitting stitch markers too. Love your videos.
Playing in the bead jars is like playing in the button tins. You enable me to keep them both, Kate. Love that. I tried to downsize things I haven't used in some time, but just could not give up my beads. I did remove, for giving to our local charity store, all the plastic facet beads I made Christmas ornaments with a hundred years ago. What fun. Thanks for the inspiration this Sunday afternoon.
Oh the joy of beads and button tins! I was lucky enough to inherit a button tin from a friend’s Mum, it kept me amused for hours! I already had our family tin, where the stories behind the contents was familiar, but ‘new’ buttons, and all that sorting out and stringing, it was better than Christmas! Happy memories!
I found that a very relaxing video Kate, when taking the clasp apart slide the magnets rather than try to pull them apart. I have done a fair amount of beading, and have a rather bigger stash! Not done any lately as son took my sewing machine apart over my work bench, and he has not got it back together as yet. I live in hope.
Light and love from California! What a joy spending time with you today, Kate, as always. You have such a relaxed approach to your many projects which is enjoyable to watch. Love your way of thinking.....you have zillions of beads on your table but just a few more couldn't hurt. I haven't done beading for a bit now but for some unknown reason, I just bought a bag of rocks from Fire Mountain Gems......who knows why??? Thanks again for being with us during our many lock downs and every other time as well. Cheers!!
“Is there a hole in this bead?” omg! Laughing out loud, but quietly cuz my husband is sleeping. Fighting insomnia but love the comfy green couch. Thank from crazy California❤️
Kate, you’re tempting me to get my jewelry making stuff out again! 💕 It was so absorbing for me that I’d suddenly discover it was 4 hours later & there was nothing ready for dinner and the laundry still in the basket. If I didn’t eventually have to pee, I’m sure I could lose a whole day in creative endeavors. 😂
My friend made a beaded bracelet for her mother inlaw, with magnetic clasps. She wore it to work and it kept on picking up paperclips and other random metal bits!
This was a delightful visit, Kate! I love beads too, and your necklaces are all wonderful. I have a couple of necklaces and bracelets I made using paper beads that I made using prints from my gelatin plate. Loads of color, and shiny because I dipped them in glue to “polish” them up. So easy and fun to make, and you can be sure you’ll have all the colors, shapes and sizes you want. I learned how - of course - on UA-cam. But what I don’t have are those fabulous magnetic clasps - talk about a game changer! Must look for those. I hope you have a marvelous week.
I have several strands of colorful beads I inherited from my mom when she passed away. She and her sisters used to get together for "tea" (they lived in Texas) and they would put on big floppy hats and necklaces and have a great time laughing and visiting. I love the necklaces, but I never dress up in anything they would look right for. I mainly wear flannel shirts up here in northern Minnesota. They had lots of fun playing dress up (they were in their 70's and 80's at the time), so the beads bring back good memories. Have fun wearing your beads...just for you! :) (I gave several strands to my daughter. She has the right fashion flair to wear them!)
It's easy to see how much pleasure your "week day" beads give you. They are lovely. My opinion? You can wear them with whatever clothes you happen to be in!
What a lovely visit with Kate. I like making jewelry too. Hope you stay safe and healthy in 2021. Necklace is pretty. Well done. Your humor makes me giggle. Thanks.
We need to all bring A few of our favorite beads and sit on the lime green sofa altogether. Then as the needle and thread pass by, each person can string their favorite beads onto the string making one ginormous necklace
Playing with colors, a lovely way to make your day positive. I love the colors you used, they suit you. Of course there is pink 💕 in it and green💚 and lots of others. The Netherlands are in lockdown, too. And we just heard we will be in it for another three weeks. To cheer up I am knitting a sweater for our eldest son and I am using quite bright colors. It makes me happy to draw up the patterns for it (it’s a kind fair isle with a twist😂) keep positive everybody on the LGS! 🤩💃🏻
nothing wrong with wearing beads to do house work. I have lots of lovely bracelets, earrings and necklaces that I wear around the house all the time. They make me smile, sometimes they inspire me, wearing your lovelies can be a nice pick me up as well. I hope you make beads for every day of the week Kate, they fit your sparkling personality!
I can imagine, Agnes playing with all these lovely things in Grandmas House, feeding the animals, working in the garden and with yarn, fabrics, buttons, cooking ... what lovely memories she will have later on grandma Kate :)
While I don't quilt, I do sew and you've inspired me with the string quilt. I loved how you worked on two colors simultaneously! I have done beading and many other crafts. I love how you you said we become blind to our surroundings. I've been crafting all my life at 65! I have lots of collections of stuff. I love it all❣ I love your snow walks!
What a lovely idea! It's hard to think of dressing some days, much less wear our beads. I love the colors you choose. Thanks for sharing your creative spirit with us. Be safe, take care.
Kate, your necklace is lovely! And it certainly goes with what you were wearing! I also have a stash of beads, findings and all of the tools. Wish I lived closer to you. You could borrow my crimping pliers!, Thank you for the entertainment while we are all in lockdown. Looking forward to your next video!
Kate, a fun necklace to make would be a “ mood necklace.” Every day of the month, you put a colour on the wire that matches your mood, or one that matches the colour of the sky, either morning or evening.
I so enjoyed your title and video. I too am (over?)-dressing these days. I bought my first lipstick (ever) for my 66th birthday. My husband hasn't said anything...yet. Might as well make our own fun!
Wow Kate what a beautiful selection of beads you have. I do make jewellery, using all sorts of findings and lampworking is one of my favourite things. I make bracelets, earrings, necklaces and various wire bending techniques. I usually give them to people and say no cost to me donate to a charity of your choice. Like you I am struggling with my eyes, I think as I will be the big 50 next month my body is saying listen here old girl get better specs.. I recently bought the beading needles that collapse so they will go through the smallest of beads and they seem to help out a great deal. You were right by the way, I was no Kate pick more pink. I love the red beads they will go well with your clothing you had on. Crimping beads are a life saver..lol.. Never used the magnetic clasps, but I will buy some now you have shown me that they work. Another blessed time listening to you. Thank you so much so bored with the lockdown, needs must I guess. Take care of yourself. Happy crafting.
Somehow I got hooked on making beaded Christmas ornaments just before Christmas. Was wondering if it was appropriate to make icicles and stars for Valentine's day. Now I think I'll just string pretty beads for weeding and cleaning house and also some sparkly ones for the weekends. What fun. Thanks for the inspiration!
Well done Kate !!! The pink beads and green ones are so very pretty!!! The quilt behind you is one of the most gorgeous quilts I've ever seen. I just dearly love it. Enjoy your walk. Stay well.
@@thelasthomelyhouse Kate, I just want you to know what an inspiring person you are. You're always so upbeat and happy. You love the cats and ducks, and just never a downer. I appreciate that. There needs to be more happiness in this world. I try to learn something from everyone that I watch. I went through some rough things and was divorced when I very much wanted to be a wife. That whole thing about being discarded is hard. Thank God He picked me up, and one of life's greatest blessings, a granddaughter needed me. A few years later and I am content and happy and try to be joyful. But thank you for always being positive. I think we should all wear beads at home. !!!
You remembered me of necklaces I have and never wearing them anymore. I don't work anymore to wear them but why not at home? Thanks Kate you opened my eyes.
Some years ago I used to do some jewelry making of the beading variety and quite enjoyed it. I even upcycled an old chandelier by spray painting it and adding swags of beads and crystals and hung it in my bedroom. I love how it turned out.
The necklace looks lovely on you Kate. I had visions of you running amok in the bead warehouse in Africa....Beading is very addictive. I used to do necklaces and earrings for myself and went out of control! I always wear earrings and necklaces and I find a necklace fills in that bare void between the top of a garment and the bottom of the neck and will hide anything unsightly too. Hope you enjoyed your walk.
You made me giggle about "Maybe Agnes will wear these in a few years, with a feather boa or something." I have a 10 month old (first) granddaughter. I've saved my daughters' dress ups for her and will keep my heels for her dress-up box (I can't hoe weeds in heels anyway. ;) ). Your beads are beautiful. I love your creativity + energy. :)
oh you have inspired me Kate! I have several (many) jars of beads kicking around this old house. They were given to me years ago and I think it's time they got some attention! Lovely to spend some time with you, as always.
I giggled when you assigned your new necklace the label "week day beads"! I have certainly done the same with pieces of my own jewelry! Loved the video Kate! Thank you for sharing your time with us! 🙂
Watching from the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee USA. As you asked to know. I’m a quilter and that must be where I found you. Enjoying someone who’s mind works on a equal wave. Not the same, but close. Enjoying a lot.
Congrats Kate on finding your beads again! I enjoyed watching you make your new necklace and going through your beads with you. I use to make jewelry and got some published in beading magazines. My 15 mins of fame as they say. After making so much jewelry, I pledged that I would wear a necklace every day whether it be sweatpants or pajamas. I was pretty dolled up! HA! Lastly, I have to agree with what Jan's mum use to say. I had an aunt who would always say "The golden years, but no one said they'd be tarnished." Sitting comfortable on the lime green sofa with all. Take good care and stay safe.
Oh my goodness! I have loads of beads, too, and I have made several bracelets in the past and earrings. I love dangly earrings. Haven't worked with them for awhile, but I have all the tools for it. Will have to stick with sewing for awhile and make use of my new sewing machine and all the fabric I bought on a Quilt Shop Hop recently. I had something in mind for everything I bought. So much fun!
I found you through the Arne and Carlos channel and wanted you to know that I find you delightful...I have a cup of coffee or tea and knit listening to you like a friend sitting with me. I sometimes play with beads and your tip on using 2 crimping beads is an excellent one..thank you for being here.❤️
What a relaxing craft for a sunny, snowy day of lockdown. We do what we have to do to find joy these days. Just do what makes us happy. TFS the inspiration, Kate!
Your bead-making sharing was fun! Very pretty, indeed! Thank you. I was knitting on my poncho with beautiful Christmas gift Rowan Tweed yarn while watching you make your necklace. As I am in lockdown as well, I sit and knit, and wear the sweaters I made last year. 😀 ❤️
you are a wonderful woman with many talents - being a new subbie i have watched you quilt - cook - bake - paint - garden - bees - chickens - journals - and now beading - oh how i am enjoying your journey of creativity - thank you!!!! oh yes and we can't leave out your beautiful cats - how they adore you : )
Hi Kate! Enjoy watching your videos! I enjoy making jewelry too. I started by crocheting a necklace many years ago. Watching your videos is like visiting an old friend. Thank you for that! God bless!
That's a lovely necklace. The magnetic clasp is genius! You will be so stylish in lockdown. I will be teaching online for a few weeks...I might need to put on some bling, too!
I love them love the colours i dont do earings, when i was a child i had a tin of beads and what you did is go round to peoples homes where they had tins of beads and we swop our beads it was great thing to do. love the video fab.
Hi Kate, I've given up trying to figure out why I'm attracted to things. Especially shiney baubles or particular colors and patterns of fabric. I no longer feel like I need to explain it to others. The heart wants what the heart wants. So keep your beads girl play with them and wear them with pride whenever the spirit moves you. We should pick a day and all wear our beads together 😍
I did lampworking years ago. I miss it. Now you’ve inspired me to get out all of my baubles. This is my first visit to your channel. Lovely visiting with you.
I always smile when I watch your vids. because you're so much like me. I'm supposed to be a quilter but like to do a variety of things, toy making,, handbag making etc. I too have just sent for some crimping beads (so very small) and am having a go at making some beads into suncatchers. Such fun. Keep up the good work!
One of my New Year resolutions this year is to wear more colourful jewellery as it is such an instant mood booster and introduces more colour into your everyday life and that can only be a good thing. Enjoy your lovely necklace and wear it often.
Beautiful! I put on an extra pair of glasses when I need to see something really small. I just moved and put my beads away the other day. It woyld be nice to make something with them.
Love the beads, Kate, I think I would really like doing that too. Enjoy your walk outside...took my dogs for a short walk..cold here in Michigan but the sun was shining for a short bit..melted some of our snow..not much though. Have a great rest of the day.😊
Kate I love spending my sewing time with you! Thank you for your channel. When I saw this bead on chicken wire picture I thought of you! Feel that you would love this and could put this in your polytunnel! I am from Townsend Ontario Canada.
Just before the holidays I dug out my bead stash and made a loooong strand of beads with camel bells at each end and used it as a garland on my back porch. I’ve been stringing more with big crystal prisms on the ends to make rainbows in my house. Rainbow o’clock makes me unreasonably happy! I also have to buy a few new beads so that I can use up all my stash:-). Thanks for sharing your beading project!
Your beads are beautiful, Kate. My mother used to wear necklaces and clip type earrings when she didn't have little ones in her care (she was a licensed baby sitter for years) I still have alot of her jewelry, and your beads brought back happy memories. Thank you for sharing you time and talent
Oddly enough, I'm also looking at a snowy day! The difference is that mine will all be melted and gone by tomorrow afternoon. East Texas is not exactly a Winter Wonderland. Ha! My dog is definitely a southerner as she is refusing to go out. She'll have to eventually because her eyes are taking on a yellow twinge. During my last sewing/craft room purge I decided I would let my beading supplies go elsewhere to live with someone who might actually use them to make things. Watching your video made me feel the need to bead. I will go back to quilting at the Sweet Sixteen until the beading urge passes. Take care, Kate!

So true!! Lol
Oh, yes. So very, very true.
No truer words were spoken. Ha ha !
Excellent 😅
Hmmm
Being creative is very dangerous. You get an idea so you start looking for things you need, as you're digging you come across other things you haven't seen in a long time, the creative juices start flowing so you leave it out, next thing you know you have all this stuff out that's made a big mess, if you're lucky you've found what you were originally looking for and if you're really, really lucky you remember why you were looking for it and really, really, really lucky if you remember what your ideas were of all the new stuff laying about.
😄
Omgoodness you are SO correct 🤣🤣❤️😀
Who needs high blood pressure meds with Kate around??? Sooooo soothing. Kate... Good for what ails ya, as my mom used to say.
Ladies, what you said is very inspiring!!! ❤️😀
Oh what fun! Thank you xxx
@@chrisberry7712 Happy memories to you too. I am feeling the need to cuddle with my mom's button tin. It is a wonderous place to be.
This will be interesting to watch how she does this. . Hooray! Kate-
I found that a very relaxing video Kate, when taking the clasp apart slide the magnets rather than try to pull them apart.
Oh no, I can't take on any more hobbies!!😄 Loved the necklace. The simplest of things can give us so much pleasure. The snowy scene was lovely. Xx
that is want i been doing play with beads making wind chimes
My friend made a beaded bracelet for her mother inlaw, with magnetic clasps. She wore it to work and it kept on picking up paperclips and other random metal bits!
😳😝❤️😀
That is so funny Liz. I can just picture her frustration.
Loved the beading Kate , but wow ! I so enjoyed that snow scene at the end with the birds in flight over the snow ❤
Beautiful beads Kate! My Covid lockdown uniform is flannel pj’s..have quite the collection! Thank you!
Pamela, maybe add some perfume and beads, like some of the others🤔🤪❤️😀
@@rachelburgener819 that’s a good idea! Jazz myself up :)
Mine too! xxx
I would love to do that!
That would be awesome. Think of the beauty and variety we would end up with. However I suspect it would be infinite.
Kate! I know! You need to wear beads to pass tea to those of us on the Lime Green Couch! ❤️👵🏻☕❤️
I love it all❣
I love your snow walks!
We have a gem and bead fair twice yearly during normal times. Great fun to see your treasures. Greetings from Oregon and Mr Tigs.
Well done Kate !!! The pink beads and green ones are so very pretty!!!
The quilt behind you is one of the most gorgeous quilts I've ever seen. I just dearly love it. Enjoy your walk. Stay well.
Thank you so much! xxx
Kate, I’m noticing your bead colors are quite similar to the hexagon quilt behind you! 😍
I was thinking the same thing Linda. She has all the colors on the table to make one like the quilt.
Thank you for the smiles. Always a good time with you.
There’s no harm in wearing your baubles and/or tiara at home. Makes you feel beautiful and who doesn’t love a good necklace or bracelet. Hugs❤️❤️
I giggled when you assigned your new necklace the label "week day beads"! I have certainly done the same with pieces of my own jewelry! Loved the video Kate! Thank you for sharing your time with us! 🙂
Kate, looking at the pile of beads you started with resembles all the colors in your hexagon quilt on the wall. ❤
Watching from the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee USA. As you asked to know. I’m a quilter and that must be where I found you. Enjoying someone who’s mind works on a equal wave. Not the same, but close. Enjoying a lot.
Love Sundays spending some time with you, Kate. God bless you! You're a fine Lady. Like your Necklace. ☺
Thank you so much for doing this. You bring so much joy into life. And I love your recommended book “A New Earth.” So happy to have found you.
The quilt behind you is coming along wonderfully! The color placement inspires my imagination! Thank you Kate!
I sometimes play with beads and your tip on using 2 crimping beads is an excellent one..thank you for being here.❤️
I've bought several bracelets with the stretchy elastic for my granddaughter. I think Agnes would love a pink bracelet for her 1st birthday. Sandi
Enjoy your walk, Kate. I’m on my way outside for a bit of sun too.
you are a wonderful woman with many talents - being a new subbie i have watched you quilt - cook - bake - paint - garden - bees - chickens - journals - and now beading - oh how i am enjoying your journey of creativity - thank you!!!! oh yes and we can't leave out your beautiful cats - how they adore you : )
Hello Kate. The necklace you just made reminds me the Spring/Summer season. Lovely!
Lovely idea to put on the beads, beautiful happy colours ist what we all need in this time. All the best for you🤗
