Hvorostovsky is perfection. Watched the recent production with this rendition in mind. Disappointed. Came home to locate this recording and listened over and over again. The purity and simplicity of the staging reinforces this most exquisite of arias. The poignancy of Germont’s plea is essential to the drama of the opera.

Hvorostovsky is my hero!!!! The very best of all times!!! His voice was so natural so he could focus on his acting! The only one who could do so - perfect interpretation of this aria!!!
Try nicoli herlea the great romanian baritone,there were many many great baritones,like,granforte,stracciari,basstianni,battistinni,de luca,tagliabue,gobbi,etc everyone of them were excellent,dimitri i like,but he is not better than any ive mentioned above,including,warren,merill,silveri,urbano,taddei,capucilli,they are all different and each has their own strengths,so its not true to say dimitri is the best ever,one of the best,but not the best,as that title belongs to them all.

@@ixopo6715 Grief - yes it was at first which is normal, but then I discovered so many things about him. Videos, articles, interviews. I decided as many, to learn Russian, to understand him. And there is always a nice sanctuary, the Dmitri Hvorostovsky Golden Baritone FB group which is a nice place to talk, to exchange opinions, to enrich our knowledge about Dmitri Hvorostovsky. I genuinely don't have a feeling of him not being present.
There are great baritone singers but no Hvorostovsky-a singer with outstanding performance abilities,mesmerizing good looks and grace and superlative technique and breath control.
