I was 39 when I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. I was not expected to be alive very long. I'm now going on month 34 and still fighting. I like to listen to this song to remind myself that everyday I've made it to is a great day to be alive. Even if it doesn't seem like it, just the opportunity to have made it is amazing. Today is a great day to be alive.
❤ Godspeed. My mother is a 2x breast cancer survivor. I send you warmest wishes. May your recovery continue and the evil bastard C stay at bay and long away.
Prayers with you nobody should be going through what your going through but just know better days are on their way and friends and family will be there
I am so grateful for this song ... it has gotten me through three heart attacks , two major neck surgeries and helped me recover from a stroke THANK YOU TRAVIS TRITT
You've got a history that could compare to mine. I've had 6 brain surgeries, 3 strokes, and 2 entirely different types of radiation therapy. I had a non cancerous tumor on my pituitary that hast tried to blind and/or kill me repeatedly. I correct friends that say, "whatever doesn't kill you just makes you stronger." I like to tell them that, "No, whatever doesn't kill you, will almost certainly try again. So always be vigilant. "
Because I've had 3 strokes, I will sometimes tell people, "although I promise you that you don't ever WANT to have a stroke, as it turns out, on a surgical table, surrounded by neurosurgeons , with your skull already open, happens to be the ideal time to have a stroke if you're going to have one. The next week is still pretty strange either way.
Three weeks ago I survived a ruptured aortic aneurysm, it was in my lower abdomen and it scared me badly. I had great medical professionals and I am blessed to be alive. This song has a new meaning for me and I still feel the sun when I shut my eyes.
I've known and loved this song for many years! But today I have it on repeat! I am almost 9 months out of an abusive relationship, 19 sober from alcohol, and never felt better! I have a great team people that have my back! My therapist, my psychiatrist, my case worker, and all the staff at the sober living house I am residing in!!! Thank you for this song Travis!!!!
My son passed away a year ago today....this was our shit man. We used to get baked out and sing this song just about everyday! This one for you brody. I love and miss you man.
My brother and I used to listen to this to help us through hard times, he overdosed on fetanyl 7 months ago so it makes me cry now but still helps me continue to appreciate the life I have.
“I gave it my best and then I left it alone” is such a great underrated line in this song and message. It’s about not living in the past, stewing over things that have already happened and can’t be controlled/changed. All you can do is learn from it and keep moving. It’s best to “leave the past alone.”
The home made soup lyric always reminds me of my dad. 30 degrees cold outside, in the garage with a propane burner, large stainless steel pot making some soup. Chicken on the bone, cabbage, huge chunks of carrots and potatoes lots of spices. His soup was never bland. Thanks Travis
I don't know how to say how much a song like this means to me. It makes me appreciate everyone I have around me, and feel fortunate for all the blessings I've had in life. The lyrics truly move me and make me feel so happy inside. Thank you so much for such a wonderful song.
Just got back from a 3 day 900 mile Harley ride with my uncle through some of the best roads in the country. After both of us having a pretty tough couple years. You can bet I listened to this about 100 times along the way.
I have survived multiple heart failures and currently battling cancer, so it is a great day to be alive. Everyday the Good Lord gives me is a gift at this point, so everyday is a great day to be alive no matter the difficulty and challenges.
Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, the supergroup Alabama, Mel Tillis, The Riders in the Sky, Whisperin’ Bill Anderson, John Conlee, The Zac Brown Band, OCMS, and Alan Jackson….ive been blessed enough to hear them all live and in person and they were beyond excellent. From my experiences Alabama put on the best show, but that was a full concert and many of the others I listed were Grand Ol’ Opry appearances so it’s not really apples to apples but Alabama REALLY gave one hell of a show, over 2 hours and not one break and the last time I saw them these guys were well past 60. RIP Jeff Cook and Mel Tillis.
This song reminds me of my wife so much. We married in 2002, and she died in 2014. She was only 31. We have 2 incredible kids together. And they turned out great. We used to sing this song together all the time. Now it’s just sad. I miss her so much.
Wow . Thank you for sharing your experience. The emotional aspect and intense intelligence you gained is very deep. The one thing you have is deep , treasured love that is so sacred it is beyond the worth of all the gold and beyond .
Had my wife send me the lyrics. While I was in prison . I would be so happy and thankful to be able to walk to chow singing this song. Life is good for me now.
Got to meet Travis in person in Madison Wisconsin, he had on a shirt with guitars on it. I was so glad to be able to talk to him. It is in my book or memories!!!
This song reminds me of my grandma. She was a huge Travis Tritt fan her whole life and always wanted go to his concert and i was gonna suprise her with a Travis Tritt concert but she died in 2020 before i could have taken her. I love u grandma and u will forever be missed. We played this song at her funeral.

This really is a good song. I particularly hear it a lot during the summer. For the baseball team in my hometown, Thunder Bay Border Cats, this song has often been played after most games once the P.A. announcer has said good night to everyone.
