I'm 40 years old and my mother recorded this on VHS when they aired it on FOX in the mid 80s. I must of seen this 100 times it was my all-time favorite cartoon. Me and my friends would sing its just a game on are way to the stores to steal stuff LOL. This era would never play this again on television but so glad I found this and still remembered it word for word.
I’m also in my 40’s-but I must have been overseas during the time this was aired…so have never seen it-till now. Reminds me of ‘The Water Babies’…. Question….how come Oliver’s Accent has always been ‘Well Spoken’……when he’s been surrounded by the ‘Common Speech’ all his life….how in Reality-does that work, I wonder? 🤔……😊x
Me too! I was little and I watched it randomly on TV. I never found the movie anymore and I didn't know its name. Years later I started reading a book and recognized the story . Nancy's death was strong.
Memories so many memories it has brought back to me, I used to watch this very Oliver Twist cartoon back when I was a small kid in 2007. Wonderful memories.
This was one of two animated films that Filmation Associates made in conjunction with Warner Bros. (the first was "TREASURE ISLAND") Filmation produced this animated film in 1974 but Warner Bros withdrew it from release after getting poor reviews and was later aired as an "NBC Special Treat" in 1981, and while Filmation cartoons back then were remembered for their limited animation, the studio eventually succeeded with better animation beginning with "TARZAN, LORD OF THE JUNGLE" in Fall 1976 and "FLASH GORDON, THE GREATEST ADVENTURE OF THEM ALL" in 1979, which was a two million dollar production in arrangement with King Features Syndicate. while it wasn't exactly clear about the business that Warner Bros. had with Filmation Associates, the studio also released "JOURNEY BACK TO OZ" which was Filmation's first full-length animated feature, and made cartoon history when Filmation produced "PORKY PIG AND DAFFY DUCK MEET THE GROOVY GOOLIES" with the popular Warner Bros. characters as a TV special for "THE ABC SATURDAY SUPERSTAR MOVIE" in Fall 1972, which many frowned on since Warner Bros. animation was many times more superior then Filmation's. the background music in this 1974 cartoon film was partially original, since this was Ray Ellis' music (credited under the pseudonym of Yvette Blais & Jeff Micheals) and if viewers listen carefully, some of the music used from Filmation's animated "STAR TREK" series was also used in this film, which was eventually used as stock music in many other Filmation live and animated productions back then.
This is 1 of 3 animated feature films produced by Lou Scheimer, Norm Prescott & Hal Sutherland’s Filmation Associates Cartoon Studios in Hollywood, USA for theatrical release thru Warner Bros. Pictures Inc. and 1 of 2 features that edited for TV as part of the 1980’s/1970’s anthology series, “NBC Special Treat” originally aired on NBC TV.
Oliver Twist reminds me of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame for three reasons. 1: Both stories have an innocent person being mistreated by various people who treat our heroes like the bad guys. 2: Both stories have an innocent person falsely accused and put in front of a skeptical magistrate who is already convinced of their guilt and refuses to give the benefit of the doubt. 3: Both stories have the main antagonist fall to their deaths. Difference is Oliver Twist had a happy ending. If you look at the original book of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, the story ended with a tragedy.
Thank you for uploading and keeping this on UA-cam. I watch it every year at Christmas...like I did as a kid when it came on TV along with Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol
You know, if they had all just helped Oliver learn his identity instead of they could’ve gotten a larger reward than what his brother was going to give them.
I get a kick out of the way they try to gloss over the whole illegitimacy/adultery issue in Oliver's backstory (for a kid-friendly version of the story), to make him only SORT OF illegitimate and his father only SORT OF an adulterer. :-)
I remember watching Disney's Tarzan when Clayton died and thought, "This was awfully close to the same way Bill Sykes died, down to the hanging body silhouette."
Thanks for posting this. My parents had this on VHS when I was a child, but the first fifteen minutes of it was grey matter. 'Nice little nostalgia here.
Technically, this is first I ever heard of Oliver Twist, from an ad for it in TV guide. I never saw this version til years later. But I remembered the ad when the 1982 version came out the following year.
Poor Oliver those poor ole are no people of god at all they just want to think only they care about the world. The film was quite interesting did feel the goosebumps on what happened to Nancy.
Two types of comments: Millennials: wow such good childhood memories Zoomers: omg I'm over this animation, the voice actors are wack Being part of the former group, just know that big fat 2020 cgi was once something like this movie. Don't discredit other ppl's nostalgia, I'm sure none of you is a movie critic so stfu
I was bill sikes in our school play Oliver and obvs I had 2 kill Nancy after the show we went into some hall where all the parents were waiting and the girl who played Nancy her dad came up 2 me and said y did I kill his daughter I was so scared but he was only joking😂😮💨
It's probably because jackass was frequently used interchangeably with donkey in the 18th and 19th century and was acceptable to refer to someone as a fool. I think I've seen the word used this way in some old British nursery rhymes/fables.
Yeah... if you take away the song parts... It's actually decent. And the saddest thing is that this version was much closer to the book compared to... Why, should I been worried? Why should I care?

Hello Fellow 40yr old.
this movie depressed me so much as a child
Cheer! My dear.
Me either, so obsessed with this movie, always scared of being in that situation like Oliver someday whenever I watch this
How are you now
yep, it is not adapted to children, kids are not only sensitive to violence, sad movies or anime can do damage too.
Me too
Even though this is just a cartoon, this movie is a true story for a lot of children.....
Yes it is sad
I still remember being terrified at the part where Nancy is murdered. I watched it when I was 7, and at 25 I still can't forget that eerie feeling.
Me too! I was little and I watched it randomly on TV. I never found the movie anymore and I didn't know its name. Years later I started reading a book and recognized the story . Nancy's death was strong.
When was Nancy's death?
Say me the minute
I watch this when I was 5 and that hanging part still haunt my memory
Wonderful
Memories so many memories it has brought back to me, I used to watch this very Oliver Twist cartoon back when I was a small kid in 2007. Wonderful memories.
How old r u now? Man why didn’t I know bout this before😅😅
I can't believe I found it! I watched on TV when I was little in Brazil. It was my first contact with the story. Nancy's death impressed me so much!
I have finally found it! One of my favorite childhood films!
Very happy to see Davy Jones voicing the Artful Dodger in this!!
Me also
Dodger is definitely a character he's known for! I didn't know he'd played him again outside of "Oliver!" back in the day so that's kind of cool.
I searched for this. When the music started I remember my childhood. Awww I really miss watching this film.
Happy you found it
Great memories .
Thank you.

Some of it was used in the Fat Albert Christmas Special.
My first Oliver Twist movie. Ah it brings back memories
"He'll be wanting a last name too, I suppose, although why poor people need one I'll never know"
DAMN 😳
I've learn so many things here about this story it's make me easy when I write an assignment in my class.... 🤗
Wow, Bullseye really enjoys being kicked around.
Oliver Twist becomes a rich boy.

the people are wicked.so sad poor, poor oliver.
Just like they are today. Jesus Christ, people never change. That's why I hate them so much!

That bird signed Fagin's death warrant...savage.

Happy you are enjoying it thank you for watching
Awwww Davy s adorable voice in a cartoon version of Oliver Twist.
You know, if they had all just helped Oliver learn his identity instead of they could’ve gotten a larger reward than what his brother was going to give them.

Very nice story .when I read this novel I felt so emotional
This movie terrified me as a child
I haven't seen this movie in a long long time
Our class showed this today.
1:21:35 and 1:25:59 were the most darkest moments to me
My class too
Emiemations qwq what happened to the lasy
same here 0-0
I remember watching Disney's Tarzan when Clayton died and thought, "This was awfully close to the same way Bill Sykes died, down to the hanging body silhouette."
This is more decent. In the original book, and a lot of other adaptations, Brownlow believed Bumble's lies about Oliver.
I was very happy when i saw film again
I haven”t seen that for 10 years
I love this movie..... I understand so much about this movie and it also help me in study also.... Thank you so much💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏
It's my pleasure
😊😊
charles Dickens was really a good writer
I agree with u.
He sure was and always will be
HOLY HELL I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING THIS CARTOON SHOW
When I first saw this, I'm not gonna lie, I thought the vulture, bat, and crow would've chased Squeaker in one scene.
Thanks for posting this. My parents had this on VHS when I was a child, but the first fifteen minutes of it was grey matter. 'Nice little nostalgia here.
1:13:33 Nancy's song is my fave part. This movie brings me nostalgia.
The pigs were feeded well than the boys 😡😡😡😡 poor Oliver 😭😭😭😭😔😔😔☹️☹️☹️
This brings back memories. I used to watch it when I was a kid in the 90's....

It's nowhere near terrible but I feel they Disney-fied it a little which throws off the material of the story.
It helped me to do my holiday homework
This is goid story.i love it
this helped me in my HRR (Home Reading Report) thank you for making this
Poor Oliver those poor ole are no people of god at all they just want to think only they care about the world. The film was quite interesting did feel the goosebumps on what happened to Nancy.
This was the first version I ever saw as a kid. The first thing that comes to mind as I rewatch this is the American/ British/ Australian accent
Her:Shut up Mr Bumble! Mr Bumble: No! You shut up!!
9:41 He sounds just like Robotnik from the SatAm Sonic cartoons
childhood memories ..... the songs are alright too
It's good story
All of those are crazy humans
That frog 🐸 was loyal asf
My homework was to watch this lol
I love this video
My childhood, i looking for it for along time ~ trở về tuổi thơ tôi, cuối cũng tìm được lại phim này =)))
That frog ads nothing to the story!
It is the "Gratuitous Animal Sidekick" trope at its worst!
Well at least we can be grateful that he did not speak at all!
This reminds me about how they handled one of the Heidi adaptations. Musical numbers, and animal characters.
I liked it very much😃 😍😘
Monks is a sinister greedy liar!
Christopher, I'd truly agree with you on him 1 way or the other.
Beautiful film
Vtc11 ơi tôi nhớ tuổi thơ quá 12h30 chưa ngủ nhớ về bộ phim này
chuẩn r a ạ, e cũng thế =))
có bản tiếng việt k nhỉ
1.13.26. What a gorgeous song. Danm it, I knew the first time I heard it I must gain the rights to put this in one of my movies and novels

Oh Phelous! I think that we have a new review for you!

This was shown on Mr. Spim’s Cartoon Theater back in the 90’s.
When i was reading this book. I felt like I'm Oliver Twist 😁☺️
Honestly Bill is the antagonist in this film
Of course he is; he's evil.
I was bill sikes in our school play Oliver and obvs I had 2 kill Nancy after the show we went into some hall where all the parents were waiting and the girl who played Nancy her dad came up 2 me and said y did I kill his daughter I was so scared but he was only joking😂😮💨
Great story 😊
I have been searching for years this anime. It was so scary I think I was too young to watch it. I search the French dub now.
So happy you found it
la mejor versión de todas
I qm here from Oliver and Company
I'm surprised they said Jackass in the end
It's probably because jackass was frequently used interchangeably with donkey in the 18th and 19th century and was acceptable to refer to someone as a fool. I think I've seen the word used this way in some old British nursery rhymes/fables.

thank you! Is there any possibility to add subtitles? English is not my mothertongue and I miss some parts.
Great job!
