  • Freeform shapes surround us every day, from the support of our lower back in a chair to the comfort grip of a push mower handlebar. Today’s designs are becoming more organically shaped and Autodesk® Inventor® can support this design workflow with surfacing and the recent introduction of freeform modeling. Using either workflow alone can get you far in a design, but combining the two provides a powerful set of tools to model as fluidly as possible. Inventor combines the rigid form modeling approach with freeform modeling to deliver the entire design, in one easy to use modeler.

    -Surfacing with Boolean operations
    -Freeform introduction
    -Freeform to Solid conversion

    Free-form and surface modeling:
    12:30 - Intersection curve + Loft = dramatic shapes
    14:15 - Proyect to surfaces
    15:05 - Wrap to surfaces
    16:15 - Proyect to surfaces 2
Working with surfaces for something useful:
17:10 - Sculpt = Convert shapes into solids
18:10 - (EXTRUDE + Shape) + (SWEEP + Path + Guide rail) = Convert sketches in different shapes into solids
19:15 - Path and Guide surface = explanation
22:40 - How to cap off open profiles and surfaces: (PATCH + Tangent Condition or Smooth)

not really familiar with freeform, but I need to learn this technic.
    very useful

Very informative but a big time saver would have been to convert the surface into a freeform solid instead of manually sculpting the freeform solid to match the surface.

If you were modelling a dust filter to go over the nose, how would you approach it? I have to do this from a 2D drawing which has just the overall dimensions.
