Mike Epps still humble
My grandma used to take me & my cousins "down the country" in SC. She would always pull over and have us walk through the cotton fields my ancestors picked out of. We'd pick some. I remember being stuck and my fingers and hands were cut from the cotton bushes. She'd tell us stories that had been passed down 3 and 4 generations before her of landmarks: "So and so dropped dead right over there", or "So and so had that baby right here." Such good memories. I miss my grandma. Now I'm a grandma and I'm so looking forward to taking my grandbabies out there. Thank you for sharing this.

Yup a lot of black folk from the east coast/Midwest today migrated away from the south to get away from the racists decades ago when slavery was abolished. I have family all over the south. It is amazing and sad. Obviously we all came from Africa but there were stops along the way not too long ago. My great grandparents were southerners from Mississippi and Alabama though my family has been in Chicago since before my grandparents were born

I think it's funny that he's fascinated over cotton. I saw cotton all the time growing up in AL. My mom picked it when my brother was a baby. She said she would have him out in the fields with her so she could keep an eye on him. I think she would put him on cotton sack and just drag him along as she moved down each row.

I've never actually seen a cotton field and never fully grasped wearing clothes made from shit that grows out the ground... Shit wild fr
The clothes from cotton, cotton plants and the food we eat grown from the ground - dirt. Yet, folks want organic food which is grown from the ground. I had a Maltese that was white, bought him from my hair stylist 10 years ago; and I name him Cotton, pure breed, white and soft curly hair. My eldest brother asked Why, would you name him Cotton. I wasnt a shame to give him that name. Our Ancestors worked the cotton fields, were abused in the fields, even given birth in those fields. My little cotton passed away this time last year. 💖

Back in my home country we had cotton in our backyards that we'd pick to stuff mattresses and pillows with. It stayed cooler during the hot nights than the feathered and foam pillows we had.
