HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur (2-2) | The points are shared in the north London derby

- A topsy-turvy encounter saw the first north London derby of the season end in a draw, despite us twice taking the lead at Emirates Stadium
Cristian Romero had an afternoon to forget for Tottenham as he inadvertently sent a Bukayo Saka shot into his own goal after 26 minutes, but Son Heung-min would pull his side level before the break.
Not long after the restart Saka tucked home a VAR-assisted penalty following a Romero handball, but in the following minute the South Korean straight away responded with his second of the game to ultimately earn a point for his team.
Amidst a crackling atmosphere at Emirates Stadium, we began brighest, pressing our opponents with menace and snapping into tackles to try and get the early upper hand, and it worked.
After a brief early scare when Son found the net from an obvious offside position, we began creating chances and a superb reaction stop from Guglielmo Vicario prevented Gabriel Jesus from firing home a Saka cross, whose direct running caused Spurs left-back Destiny Udogie to pick up an early booking for persistent fouling within the opening 15 minutes.
The young defender was rattled and soon after his weak backpass allowed Eddie Nketiah to sneak behind him and blast straight at Vicario from a tight angle, but the pressure told on 26 minutes when the lead was finally seized.
The move began when Oleksandr Zinchenko broke up a Spurs attack on the left and charged forward before finding Martin Odegaard who switched the ball to Saka on the right. In trademark fashion, he cut inside and took aim, and saw his curler diverted into his own goal by Romero to get all Gooners celebrating and reward our positivity.
Spurs were shellshocked and were being forced into making mistakes all over the pitch. They should have been punished again six minutes later when James Maddison was caught napping on the edge of his own box and Odegaard slipped in Jesus, but the Brazilian blazed a golden chance over the bar.
And that missed proved really costly as Spurs capitalised on that let-off to produce a flurry of chances at the end of the half that would eventually yield their equaliser. On 38 minutes Dejan Kulusevski probed down the right and Son’s overlap created what seemed to be a certain goal for Brennan Johnson, however David Raya produced the first highlight of his Arsenal career by racing across his goalline to claw the ball to safety.
But he couldn’t quite keep his sheet clean moments later when Spurs did find the net. The Spaniard did well to prevent a looping cross from sneaking under his crossbar and then denied Johnson again from close range, but a weak clearance led to Maddison escaping from Saka, and Son - the only player aged 30 or more on the pitch - used his experience to sneak in between three defenders to divert the cutback into the far corner.
If the first 45 minutes was a pulsating affair, then the opening 10 minutes after the restart showed that the second would be just as nail-biting, despite us taking the lead again on 54 minutes.
Saka sent a corner into the area that dropped in the box, and Ben White saw a shot on the turn blocked by Romero’s arm. Following a lengthy VAR check, a record 25th penalty in this fixture in the Premier League was awarded and Saka slammed it down the middle of Vicario’s goal to put us back in front.
But that lead was wiped out just 98 seconds later when half-time introduction Jorginho was caught on the ball by Maddison who broke through and slipped a pass into Son to roll past Raya and put his team level for the second time.
Searching for a hat-trick, Son then saw an effort deflect off the sliding William Saliba into the side-netting to send Gooners’ hearts fluttering, but by now the game had turned into a slugfest with both teams battling away in midfield to try and establish superiority, which neither could quite find.
As the game entered 10 minutes of stoppage time, we were in the ascendancy as the visitors seemed content with their point, and we nearly nicked it when a corner reached Saka on the edge of the box, he skidded a low effort towards the bottom corner but Vicario managed to push it around his post.
Then in the final seconds, Kulusevski teed up Richarlison who saw his attempt deflect just wide of the target, as both teams had to settle for a draw.

The first goal was very shocking. There was a lot of defending, but the goal was completed with little space. He is versatile with both feet, so you should not give him space to shoot from any position.
I hate Spurs but Son is that one player I would love at Arsenal... Wish we got him if Wenger didn't mess that transfer up.

Arsenal needs a striker with high decision-making power. If Poro's pass before the replacement had gone to Son Heung-min, it would have been a goal without fail. He is a very dangerous player.
We need player like Son... If Son was an Arsenal player, we'd probably won this game.
And the title too
Jesus has not been the same since his injury. He used to be lethal in front of goal. Trossard is our best at the moment.
In 2023, you have to play your best man of the moment in the right position. There is just no scope for tolerating 'runs of poor form' if you want to win the Cup. That makes managing so hard.

You should be lucky that romero had howlers today. If he was on his game you would’ve lost. Thank your lucky stars for that draw
Blame the Chelsea players that came to arsenal.
Why are we subbing Emile on so late? His class has been undermined ever since his injury that saw him out last season - people forgetting how truly significant his impact was 2 seasons ago. I’m not suggesting Jesus can’t do the job on the left wing competently, but for goodness sake play him at striker, leave Eddie on the bench and stick Emile on the left wing again!!!!
He's going to leave, no chance for him under Arteta
Eddie is always a passenger, cannot assist and not a team player. Everytime just waiting for the ball. Why did Arteta always use him as a striker😢
Calm down kid.. its just draw..
Qhy u acting like u know better the the couch , maybe there is tactical reason why he playing havantz or nakeitah we never know , a draw is better losing Tottenham were solid team to be honest .
I agree that Nketia wasn't at the races, and with Arsenal's best 11 on the pitch, Nketia is on the bench, but ESR is only just coming back after a really long time out. I'm not sure he really can start a game like this. The last thing we want is him getting it wrong, picking up another issue and being out again. I don't think Arreta doesn't rate him, I just think he's being cautious with him from and injuries rather than footballing perspective
imagine if we had Son on our team

Let me tell you the difference in quality. Arsenal desperately relied on an own goal and a penalty even to just draw this game. H.m.son was outstanding and scored both of his goals the natural way. Tottenham made arsenal look bad I'm so proud of them and no I am not a spurs fan I was just completely taken aback by their performance. Still better than Nketiah
Son is kinda carrying Tottenham now.
Son looks very dangerous
Spurs look top class. Good game
Why Arteta doesn't have faith In ESR is worrying. Having squad depth not playing them is useless..soo annoying
Exactly. If a player is not playing regularly then they will make mistakes just like Jorginho did. Arteta needs to give everyone some game time every now and then or else all these players will get rusty and will make mistakes when they come on the pitch.
He is stubborn, maybe he thinks he is smart who knows. It's the same with Trossard, even if he was fit he would play Nketiah who is not even an avarage player. Tbh I doubt he will ever win anything.
ESR had two consecutive injuries.. Of course he's not gonna rush him in, especially in a game like this
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see him not only play, but start..but I rather have him fit
ESR deserves to regain his position esp when trossard and martineli are injured. He was much better than Harvetz in that game. Giving him only the last 10 min of playing was a joke. Don't understand why Arteta keeps ignoring such a talented player.

havertz played well after he was subbed in, but you need to understand that he's strength is not with the ball its off the ball and hes physicality
@@fasikamelese5823 STFU, to compete in a high level you need players able to carry the ball, specially if you play as a 10, because 90% of the time there is no space, and the 1 vs 1 defenses will kill him.

You lot are lucky it was a draw. The ref had your back the entire way, as always.
Arteta playing the long game and not getting carried away with the occassion shows so much maturity. Taking Rice off at half time as a precautionary measure and not even including Trossard in the line up just to protect the longevity of our team could pay off in the long run.
