    Adrianna-love your work on this show! Your additions of photos and other visual elements in post-production are fantastic and so helpful. Wondering if you could comment here with a link to the show notes each week, then pin your comment so it’s at the top and an easy reference? Thanks! Michelle

    I live in Austin and there has been an increase in extremes in both coldest and hottest temperatures. I'm finding very hard to decide what to plant. What will survive the freezes, won't survive 100 days over 100 degrees. And I lost a lot of canopy in the freeze last year, so my yard is blasted with scorching sun in the summer. At my wits end.

      I think this is a sign to look to native plants

      That can also happen when your neighbors take down canopy trees. I have that issue also. So I planted new trees they are young but will grow to provide my now wilting plants with dappled shade. Meantime my hostas and other shade loving plants have suffered but have not perished bc I water them as needed by hand. I will preserve them until my new trees can help me out. This is not climate change . There are other plantings which are thriving bc of new found sunshine. I am not changing my plants. I am waiting for my new young tree to give them back what they had. It’s not always climate change.

      SAME!!! I am about an hour’s drive south of Austin and I am so aggravated with my landscape the past couple of years. Grrrr!

    • @Jorgie1944
      @Jorgie1944 9 місяців тому

      @youbetcha108 I didn't say anything about climate change. I am just reporting what I am experiencing. I have Hundred year old oaks that were massacred this past winter freeze, with damage to my house and other plants. I have also lost my foundation plant (Burford hollies) in the freeze of '21. I water my beds with drip irrigation and lawn with a sprinkler system. I don't find gardening enjoyable when I am just barely keeping things alive during a long hot summer.

    I’ve been wanting to try vitex. Now I need to get my hands on one this coming year! Does it do alright in heavy clay soil?

    • @TrixieJFerguson
      @TrixieJFerguson 9 місяців тому

      I have heavy, rocky soil and I have a chaste/vitex (south-central Texas). I actually tried to kill it a couple of times before I knew what I had and I couldn’t. Just beware, if you plant vitex, make sure it’s not near an area that you enjoy sitting in or near a door. The bees LOVE it and I can’t imagine why because when it blooms it STINKS … bad.

    • @pwcolorchoice
      @pwcolorchoice  9 місяців тому +1

      Vitex does prefer to have really good drainage so I would be cautious with planting it in very heavy clay soil!

    I also saw that news report on the Christmas tree grower. That is so sad. With the overpopulation of deer maybe the DNR should extent deer hunting season in MI another week or two for a couple of years to reduce the numbers.

      Yes - hopefully there is a better system and solution to help with this issue by next year!

    I have a question … I want to plant rosemary, but I don’t particularly love to eat it. I mean, like, I could probably survive on one stem for the whole year. My question is, if i plant a rosemary in my garden, and cut it back hard a couple of times per year, would it stay small and soft as opposed to growing hard wood and into a shrubby mess?

    • @dragonmammma
      @dragonmammma 9 місяців тому +1

      Hah, you're just like me; I think I use rosemary maybe twice a year. I've had mine in the ground for 3 years now, and it's still nice and small after cutting it back hard a couple of times. I HATE it when they get big and gnarly.

    • @TrixieJFerguson
      @TrixieJFerguson 9 місяців тому +1

      @@dragonmammma thank you. I really love the look and scent of rosemary but it tastes yucky. LOL. There was a rosemary plant in the backyard when we bought this house and it was the ugliest thing and it took me two full days to dig it out. I want that texture in my garden but I didn’t really want it to look like the Wild Wild West again. 🤣

    • @pwcolorchoice
      @pwcolorchoice  9 місяців тому

      As long as you live in a mild climate where it grows well and has no issues surviving winter, yes! It will still end up forming a woody base but regular pruning should keep it smaller and the growth fresher.

    I have a Hardiness Zone Map pet peeve as well. When I am trying to order plants online in the Spring, the plant sellers won’t ship plants to my south-central Texas garden until the end of April or early May (which is already almost too hot to put in new plants here). 🙄😩

    • @pwcolorchoice
      @pwcolorchoice  9 місяців тому

      Ugh, yes that can be really frustrating! If you have a garden center you like to shop at, you could ask them about getting the plants you want in stock earlier as they sometimes have that ability ☺
