    Hey. Nice one there. May I ask if the screen backlight would turn off completely at some point? I saw that it dims down quite a bit, but does it completely so it won't emit any glow in the dark? I may be installing this in my bedroom and I'm concerned I would be staring at it all night long if there is any light coming from the screen. Thanks

    Hi, I’ve watched your video a bunch of times, as I believe it’s the solution to my problem. I can’t have a Hive system installed. I simply want to be able to control the temp of the thermostat/heating remotely. My current thermostat (Drayton Digistat+) is battery operated. It has a red wire going into Coms, and a yellow into On. There is an Earth coiled up in the unit. If I buy the same unit as you, is it possible to power it from the on (yellow wire) wire by using a wire bridge? Of course I’m not holding you to this advice, and I’ll seek professional help, but I don’t want to waste money buying this thermostat if it won’t work. From reading the many threads in this video, it seems my question has been asked before, but I wanted a little clarification. Many thanks for your post though, extremely informative.

      If you have a neutral wire, blue in colour, also coiled up then yes. The box where the wires come into, isn't it made out of metal?

    • @rajsood-nj6bb
      @rajsood-nj6bb Рік тому

      @@laymandiy Hi, thanks for the speedy reply. The thermostat is currently lying open on the floor! After a total refurb. So there is no back box/patress to speak of. I couldn’t make out a neutral, which thinking about it now, makes my question redundant. I’ll have to take a closer look at the wire going into the stat, as there might be a terminated neutral. However I’m not that lucky. If I can find a 240V power supply for the new stat, then I guess the red wire can go into the on terminal, and the yellow into the Com terminal. Thanks a bunch for your advice. It seems this was never going to be straightforward, after Hive visited me last week to try and complete the install but couldn’t.

    • @laymandiy
      @laymandiy  Рік тому

      No electrician would ever recommend connecting an external power supply to the thermostat. Not sure what the regs are but I'm thinking that would be against it, you'd be crossing over two circuits which is a complete no no. Imagine switching off the lights circuit only that it isn't and the mains is still powering it. Extremely dangerous. You could go for tado or some other battery operated remote thermostat, if you're not prepared to draw a new wire.

    Great video - Thank you!
    I have a similar thermostat. I am wondering if there is something wrong with it. This is because, when I sup[ply 110 V-AC to the thermostat, (to N and L), when I check the NC and NO with a voltmeter, I get exactly the same voltage (i.e., 110 V AC) from NC and NO! Does it mean there is something wrong with my thermostat?! This of course occurs when I set the temperature greater than the ambient temperature (otherwise, there is no voltage on NC and NO).

    Excellent instructional video!. And based on it I purchased the same thermostat. I havent installed it yet but I have powered it on and connected to Smart Life. I have a couple of questions and hopefully you will be able to answer.
    Q1. I noticed that when accessing the thermostat via the app the "Set Temp" shown is not the current until I power off/on the thermostat via the app. To clarify - say 9:00 - 10:00 = 19C and 10:00 - 11:00 = 21C.
    At 9:30 via the app swich off/on the thermostat it then displays set to 19C.
    Now at 10:10 Without switching off/on it will still display 19C until Off/On to force a refresh of the data.
    Have you noticed the same?
    Q2 - What is the "Switching differential" setting?
    Many Thanks

    OK so these are Good Smart Thermostats, BUT my home has 2 pipes for cold water based Fan-Coil Air conditioner, and 2 pipes for hot water UNDERFLOOR heating. So I thought this type of thermostat would be great...... BUT in heating mode, I cannot see how to turn off the Fan, which is only needed for the Fan-Coil units... Any ideas, suggestions, help, alternative 4 pipe thermostats, would be MOST welcome!! It just needs a firmware update to achieve this but????

      No your cannot update the firmware. I'm not entirely clear on how or what controls the hot flow and cold flow. Are the AC and underfloor heating linked?

    • @franklydude
      @franklydude 2 роки тому

      @@laymandiy Hello, thanks for your interest. The Underfloor heating pipes and zone valves are separate to the cooling pipes (fan coils units) and their associated room or zone valves. They are not "linked" electrically unless I have a single thermostat to control each valve ie a 4 pipe thermostat, The only place they are "linked" is in the pipe work distribution system and "indoor" mixing, pumping system thats part of the heatpump machinery, The heatpump changes mode when told to do heating, so the AC fan-coil pipe system is not used, hence I don't want the fans running.. When it's in colling mode, the heatpump tries to keep the circulation water down to maybe 8 or 10C, and when in Heating mode the circulation water is pushed up to 35C or maybe 40C suitable for the Underfloor heating... but that water isn't pumped through the Fan coil units... likewise the Cooling water isn't deliberately pumped through the underfloor system

      2 wires means it's simple switch. Unfortunately there isn't a simple way to do this. You need a neutral. You could supply power direct to thermostat and connect the wires to dry contacts. In theory that works but please ensure that you follow your local laws if sucha thing is allowed.

      If it's only 2 wires then you don't have a live and neutral but rather live and switched live, which basically means the battery operated thermostat completes the circuit when the temperature is reached.
      Treat dry contacts as your switch. Both the wires need to go into dry contact. That leaves you with powering the thermostat, which can be done using live from one of the dry contacts. What's interesting is that your thermostat seems to turn on. Does it still turn on if you remove the neutral wire into the thermostat?

      @@groundbeef662 It is very easy to decipher if you have the wiring diagrams. Live is not a problem, all boilers have a live 240v. There will be wires going into the mechanical which will be similar to a switch, if you forget the timing element of it all and just think of it as a switch that turns it on or off, you need to connect the 2 bits that complete the circuit to the dry contacts.
