Great job! There is a one more option how to cool it down. It's been checked by one guy who ride for 3000km on the "open motor". The idea is to rotate windings powered through sliding contacts, exchanging one side cover of the motor to thrust bearing. As you can see I've removed more than a half of winding (better for temperature) changing winding scheme from 27/30 poles ratio to 12 winded of 27/26 (from 333 x 333 x 333 moved on 120 degrees to 9x9x9) leaving only paired adjacent coils in one phase placing as far as possible in the border of 9 stator teeth for better torque. The electric scheme can be more powerful because of the degree of the distance between paired adjacent coils in 1phase. The more degree is, the more energy efficient torque appears between a diametrically opposed paired adjacent coils. The most efficient angle is 180", where pairs of adjacent coils are situated directly opposite each other (greatest leverage). The most powerful schemes (of most expensive motors)(rotor stator poles combinations) are 16/18 ("ultra motors" ) , 38/42 (the most efficient Japan bldc for flying models "U pro") , 12/14 ,24/26; 36/34 (all these schemes provide 180 disposition between paired adjacent coils belonging to one phase) So you'll empty the middle teeth , but edging teeth of the phase must have a paired adjacent coils, because those linking areas when ends one phase and begins the other must be winded, they are "torque places" .You can remove windings by dropping teeth thereby increasing the angle of lever force in one phase. Running (rotating) windings of the stator , instead of rotor cools by empty and non-empty teeth. These teeth "grab" the air because of their rotation and this system can be easily improved by adding 5w fan directed to open windings. Thus giving a great temperature and power effiency. Every 30 degrees above the design temperature of copper resistivity (20 degrees) is 10% loss of efficiency for the resistance of the wires. For example, 1 kilowatt motor is 100 W losses at 50 degrees. And at temperatures above 90 degrees, the resistance gradient is much higher. I've changed construction bearings (sliding contacts) to industrial ones. I'm working on belt drive one side open motor with wooden pulleys and square woden motor holder with construction studs and bolts with nuts for e-bike like in this video.. ua-cam.com/video/Xk_rqGVw0f0/v-deo.html

If the place of comsumption is far from the source, it's better to let the generator has is, bring the high 3 phases voltages up to the end. Then convert directly the 3 phases high voltage to DC high voltage with diode bridges. Then use a converter like a Flexmax, Sunnyboy or Chinese high dc voltages MPPT tracking normaly use for solar and it will step down to the voltage you want. Mostly 48 volts. That may appear more costly but I'm pretty sure it get better depending how far the production and comsumption are. This way, running cable diameter stay small (copper aren't cheap). Power on 3 phases travel well better too.

Hello! The factory motor produces around 12/24V at low RPM. This is at a low current, but could be good for a small easy VAWT. The best method would be for a larger VAWT, to use step up gearing on a rewired motor (so that it is spinning faster) to produce more power. Cheers.
Rewiring the motor by putting more coils in parallel reduces the voltage to make it more suitable for a 12 - 24V generator. The quicker the motor spins, the more voltage on the output. Therefore, for higher RPM applications such as high speed pelton water turbines, more coils should be put in parallel to reduce voltage, and increase current output. Once rectified to DC through a 3 phase full bridge rectifier, this can be used to charge 12 - 24 - 48V deep cycle batteries. Hope this helps and good luck! Thanks
¡Hola! En Nueva Zelanda, hay muchos motores de lavadora viejos en las estaciones de reciclaje. Tal vez intente eBay? Sin embargo, probablemente costará mucho más. Gracias
I was thinking that an easier route to go would be put each phase through a Full wave bridge rectifier then merge the 3 phases once converted to single phase in parallel providing higher amp.
Seems like a good idea. Any links to someone doing it? There are many videos about "rewiring" these motors. Your idea seems simpler and could produce more power...
Sounds similar to a Delta connection? But maybe each phase is isolated from another. It might affect output at low RPM, as you are pulling power from a single coil set rather than through 2. Delta would achieve similar results, but voltage will be less due to voltage being from a single phase. Could be worthwhile investigating Cheers

Why on earth would one go to the risk and trouble to rewire an ac producting motor used as a generator to lower its voltage and increase amperage whit a simple cheap step down transformer does this so well? If issue is frequency because most transforms are 50/60 Hz magnetic cores. Just wind your on on a switching a power-supply, etc toraroid core.
It is safer and likely more efficient method of bringing voltage down and increasing current for 12/24V systems. In some cases, yes, it would be logical to leave as high voltage 3 phase AC if you are transmitting power over a longer distance so as to reduce voltage drop. This should only be done by someone experienced. Its fairly straightforward to rewire once you understand the fundamental workings of the BLDC motor. Thanks, Stefan

Generators driven by a windmill or a water wheel, made of former engines, have a much too low speed, so for it to work more efficiently, the coils must be connected in series, so that the generator gives the highest voltage, then the current will be small, and the smaller it is, the weaker the coils will heat up, and this is a big drawback of these structures. And the weak, ferrite magnets in the rotor of this motor should be replaced with decent, strong neodymium magnets, then it makes sense. Nevertheless, from such a former washing machine motor, the highest that can be achieved is up to 300W, although these motors are slow-running, in order to work efficiently, they must rotate at about 1000 rpm, and the air propeller will give up 1 / 3 of this value.
some late info. though the source is a trusted one, the wisdom of this mod is suspect. in most parts of the world, interconnecting Adjacent coils in a pma, is NOT recommended. why is this true. ALL the coils in a PHASE should be energized Equally and SIMULTANEOUSLY. this cannot happen where adjacent coils are interconnected. for Any STATOR, phases should consist of groups of Three, equally spaced coils, connected in Series. in the context of a pma application, a stator like this should be considered a 16-phase stator. the primary goal of any power system is not battery charging. it is putting WATTS into a Power processing device/circuitry/charge controller. googletranslate

- Stator mounting flanges/plates - helps secure motor to drum.
- The rotor - two versions, one for older 42 pole motor and one for newer 36 pole motor.
- The shaft (25mm Dia. stainless, splined at each end: 2 versions - 1 with external threaded ends and the other with internal threaded ends which is newer version.)
- The thin shaft nut (to retain bearings)
- Two bearings (6005RS) , sealed are recommended in weather conditions.
The motor mount can be built manually or taken out of the washer drum as you might have seen.
Many thanks and Good Luck!
Do you know of the make and model you got the bdc motor from? i have a river running past my home with only 20 mtrs to my supply and want to do something like this to drop my useage
whilst offgrid in a forest
Yes - it is a Fisher and Paykel 'SmartDrive' motor.
This is a 0.6mm copper wound 42 pole stator.
Commonly known as F&P motor, BLDC Washing Machine Motor, Gentle Annie Motor and SmartDrive motor.
Hope this helps, cheers and good luck!
Firstly thanks. I have three questions, 1. The winding of the 42 coils is on the same direction?
I mean are all of them clockwise? 2. The winding system of the 42 poles is the stator sysem?
3 At the 3.44 to 3.45 second when you insert the cover it has all around a intrinsic metal cover (if am i not wrong) is this a magnet and does this consist the rotor system? In case the anwer is yes just because is enough difficult to find a such circular magnet , Is it possible to replace it with a sery of accessive linear magnet in the interior of the cover? .

How ma power does it put out and at what rpm
My 36 pole Smart Drive was wound with aluminium wire. What now? Must I march it to the dustbin Stefan?
Hi there!
The aluminium stators are definitely more difficult to work with as they do not solder with regular lead-free or leaded solder.
I heard of an idea to use crimp connectors to clamp rewired stator connections together?
Another method could be to strip off aluminium wire and replace with thick stranded enameled copper wire, (this skips the rewiring process but takes a long time to strip and rewind stator).
Cheers and good luck!
can you guy's explain why you rewiring this motors?
friend can generate how many amps? I want to do to put helices
Hi, I saw some of his videos about the wiring of the stators, I visited the F&P link and I got a little lost and disoriented, not being an electricity expert, I kindly wanted to ask you,
not having RPM problems, which wiring indicated by F&P should I use to have the maximum amps? Thanks.
@@stefanstoove9254 SALVE, THANKS FOR THE ANSWER, AS I SAYED IN MY PRESENT E-MAIL I ARE NOT VERY COMPETENT IN THIS FIELD, I WOULD BE VERY NICE IF YOU SEND ME A SCHEME OF HOW TO CONNECT THE STATOR REELS TO HAVE THE MAXIMUM OF THE HA, CONSIDERING ONE 36 POLE STATOR. ILMIO E-MAIL ADDRESS IS THE FOLLOWING: p.pianelli@libero.it.
WAITING FOR YOUR GOODNESS REPLY YOUR GREETING.
Hi!
Maximum current can be achieved by putting all the coils in parallel in each phase.
Another method is to completely strip wire and use a much thicker copper stranded wire to wind the stator, but this process is very time consuming.
Cheers
hello how are you I hope you are available today 2020 I need to know if it is metal or plastic where the coil wire is wrapped?
ook thank you very much I have not found that washing machine motor but I will do it in acrylic then put metal bars on it and likewise coat it with acrylic thanks again from the Dominican Republic I will review the video very well to know the turns of wire and all the truth I do not know much English but google helps me
if i will see you
how many turns does each coil have and what number of wire did you use?
Hi! The coils on this stator are fully insulated with plastic and have an iron laminated core like most stators.
Cheers.
That is all good :)
Good luck with your project!
Cheers
On the first stator I rewound completely, I used 8 strands of 0.8mm copper, wound in 2P x 6C star. This gives a much lower voltage at a high current (typical for higher speed low voltage BLDC motors).
Cheers
In this closing, it becomes lighter to run? Sorry for the question, I don't understand your language 100%.
Good morning sir I have the LG direct drive motor 36pole stator aluminium winding is their. I want to make the air wind generator.how to do the generator winding please help me urgent please show me the diagram pic
36 pole motor wiring can be found on thebackshed.com under Fisher and paykel motor rewiring.
Generally, aluminium is not suitable for soldering, so a copper stator is better, but I have heard of using crimp terminals to do wiring connections.

help me friend with my garador he has 36 coil, and the detail is that the wire is not copper but aluminum. I want to make the same connection I bought connectors so I did not have to solder.
Hi so why is it necessary to rewire it?
Is it for voltage?
Hey there! Yes, rewiring does reduce the voltage output and increases maximum current. This makes it more suitable for 12/24V systems.
Cheers.
Where is get this part and how much cost I will try to best
Hi!
This is a Fisher and Payekl 'SmartDrive' motor.
Very common in New Zealand but might be able to find some overseas on Ebay possibly?
It is a type of BLDC motor.
Cheers
Pls make diagram for clear understanding

If you only want DC out, how about avoiding having to convert to single phase by simply rectifying the 3 phase output. You only need 6 diodes to do it (Google 3 phase rectifier).
Nice work

Please help me to make generator for VAWT at low rpm and low starting torque. using direct drive motor
@@stefanstoove9254 Thank you For your recommend stefan stoove
Hello! The factory motor produces around 12/24V at low RPM. This is at a low current, but could be good for a small easy VAWT.
The best method would be for a larger VAWT, to use step up gearing on a rewired motor (so that it is spinning faster) to produce more power.
Cheers.
from where is coming this 42 legs motor? thanks
Very nice 👍
Thanks ;great help!
You are welcome!
So good !
Why do we need to rewire the motor?
Because they way its wired up, it uses power to create the stator to spin. This rewire is using the spinning stator to generate power!
Thanks
Nice experiment

Donde puedo encontrar éste generador y cuánto cuesta, gracias por sus video estoy en Colombia,
My exact idea after watching this. Pretty sure by doing what was done you just lost 1/3 the output
Could be worthwhile investigating
Cheers

Thanks,
Stefan

Good ❤️🌹

some late info. though the source is a trusted one, the wisdom of this mod is suspect. in most parts of the world, interconnecting Adjacent coils in a pma, is NOT recommended. why is this true.
