Great song Fah Sure, definitely one of my faves. But, I don't have an emotional attachment to this song, like I have with others, Like Heaven or Cherry Wine, I Know I Can, The Entire Distant Relatives Album.
Pops said it well....”His command of language”...that is what separates the real from the garbage. Great reaction. I wish my dad would sit down with me with an open mind and totally rock out like this. ✌🏼
I explained real hiphop to my dad through multiple songs and albums and after he started to understand, he's been searching for new stuff constantly. He was a BIG TIME hater of rap because he thought it was "just mumbling over a song" until I showed him actual hiphop and broke it down to him by explaining how big a part their lyricism plays compared to other genres of music. It took a while for my dad to understand but trust me if you just sit him down and explain and walk him through the logic of real hiphop then he'll be glad to vibe along. People just need their minds opened, can't expect them to already know before you've explained it. This requires that you have a lot of knowledge on whatever songs/albums you're showing him though, since you'll need to explain all the metaphores and hidden meanings in the lyrics.
Btw, Nas's last 6 albums that he's released over 5 years are some of the best LPs he's ever released, he's been on a real tear lately and no one even talks about it because it feels like the music industry died in its sleep or something.
I disagree. These last 6 albums are ok by Nas standards, but his best stuff is from his first 20 years of his career: _Illmatic_ (1992) through _Life is Good_ (2012).
This is so dope! I’m 43 years old and I have my 14 year old son listening to various Nas songs. The joy he gets from hearing these songs is amazing. He’s currently listening to KD3. Y’all keep doing y’all thing and enjoy the Nas and Wu-Tang show. Nothing like that father and son bond. Blessings to y’all!
Nas "I Am" album was supposed to be a Double CD but was bootlegged before it was released which is why Nastradmus was released that same year. People tend to run with the narrative that Nastradmus was a bad album but in all reality that album is very rich in life jewels & great lyricism over dark beats. His verse on "Last Words" where he speaks thru the perspective of a Prison Cell is Incredible!! Creatively Genius!! Your dad would be blown away by that song. Good work guys!! 💪🏾✌🏾
Your dad can tell that it is a Boom Bap beat, just from the drums in the intro; this man is precious. For the sake of content he could just pretend to like everything and that would be fine, but it is clear from watching the videoes that he puts effort into understanding this genre, and thereby his son and the music he's passionate about. And it brings happy tears to my eye :-´ )
I absolutely love this discourse... I'm a Latino in my 40s who grew up on hip hop in a big city! Just watching a young man appreciate the details in the music and being able to break it all down to an elder gentleman close to him is so enlightening. Much respect and best of luck with this unique venture cuz it's unusual but so important. It's a passion of mine so I'm pleased to watch someone have the opportunity to do it! 🙌
I love the appreciation you both have for Nas. These reaction videos are so good. Please do one for Nas' song 'You're Da Man', it's one of the most incredible pieces of writing you'll ever hear

What you and your dad have is truly amazing reminds me so much of me and my dad. We have a family business together and for the longest time we really wanted nothing to do with each other until he had a heart attack. After that things changed and we both woke up to how life can be so short and to appreciate the little things in life. You and your dad are both an inspiration to what a dad and son relationship should be. Been watching for a while now and really appreciate what you guys do and most of this music takes me back to when I was teenager and I’m still bumping old school rap to do this day. With your dad being such a Nas fan I think he'd really enjoy Let Nas Down by J Cole and King Nas by Lupe Fiasco, both are phenomenal tracks and it's cool to see 2 legends paying respect to their idol in different ways.
Yes those are great songs that pay respect to Nas. Also underrated artist like Joey Badass are heavy influenced by Nas. Check out his album 1999 released in 2012 . Joey was 17 when he made that album. Songs like Waves, Hard Knock , From da Tomb$ are great songs that show how underrated he is. It is 90’s Boombap rap in the 2010’s. On Joey latest project 2000 Nas is in the album paying respect to Joey.

I don’t know if you guys checked out Nas’s Life is Good album yet but if you haven’t you need to, it’s a very mature album that deals with Fatherhood, Marriage, divorce and heartbreak.
Nas puts you in a moment in time, when you hear him rap. Hearing his effortless flow with the thought provoking lines. Your father said it best it’s spilling out his head. Nas is a student/genius that dedicated his life to hip hop. One of My top 5 favorite rappers for sure. His album run right now is insane.
Great reaction as per usual, this is a classic Nas song. I like the album I Am but it’s a inconsistent album. In 98 Nas was working on a double album that would’ve been called ‘I Am Nastradamus’, the album would’ve been before he was alive to life after death, a really cool concept album. But unfortunately some of the songs got leaked so he scrapped the idea and released two albums in 1999, ‘I Am’ & ‘Nastradamus’, some of the original songs are on those albums. Despite commercial success both the albums got criticised by fans. Nipsey Hussle worked on doing a documentary about the original double album but unfortunately he got killed before completing it Really happy to hear you’re going to the Nas & Wu-Tang show, I was at their show in Stockholm in June, it was the best show I’ve ever been to. Just a heads up, Nas is not only performing his early records he’s also performing his newer records he’s done with Hit-Boy, so if you haven’t heard the albums he’s done with Hit-Boy I would advise you to do so, they’re dope! Nas also performs two songs with Raekwon, ‘Eye for a eye’ which was a Mobb Deep record Nas & Raekwon was on and ‘Verbal Intercourse’ which was on Raekwon first album, Ghostface Killah was also on the song and he also performs with them
This channel is AMAZING!!!!!! From knowing nothing about hip hop music to going to see Nas and the Wu? Amazing! Wish my dad was alive so I could introduce him also!! Keep it up!!
The reason Nas has his face on every cover with his Projects Buildings faded in the back is because he's telling a story with his album covers also. He went from a Boy (Illmatic) to a Man (It Was Written) to a King (I Am) to a Prophet (Nastradamus) those his first half of his albums. I'll break down the rest of his Albums Covers later, maybe in another video or once ya'll get to Stillmatic, because there's a story with that cover and GOD SON'S cover too.
Never heard anyone breakdown the Stillmatic cover. I've always thought it was a tribute to Slick Rick's The Great Adventures, and the Pigeon being symbolic of New York.
@@bolder2009 I guess I’ll do both the Covers now. Stillmatic Cover has two meanings Your right for the first meaning. The second meaning is Noah’s Ark. The top of the Project Roof Nas is squatting on represent the Ark and he’s Noah over looking the flood in the background of his city… NYC. The Pigeon represents the pair of Animals that was on the Ark, but he only has one Pigeon and he chose the Pigeon over the Doves because like you said, it’s symbolic to NY. The clouds represent the rain for 40 Days 40 Nights. Now fast forward to the next album which is GOD’s SON, on the cover Nas appears to be naked and in the background it’s the water from the flood, which all that represents a new beginning and he washed away his sins. Being Born again, now if you have GOD’s SON Vinyl or CD, if you turn it around to the back cover you will now see the two Doves in each one of his hands along with his religious hat on.
This is the best duo. A son that loves the best of the best emcees and a dad interested enough in his son and his passion that he becomes a fan of the music while being enlightened by the breakdown definition of lines, slang and the background of certain words so dad is in the loop forever as to the 'slanguage' of Hip-Hop
Number 1. Saying I Am wasn’t a great album is revisionist. There’s a lot of history with I Am. It also got 4.5 mics in The Source on release and if u were around back then u would know it was all over the streets when it dropped. And not reviewing any song off Nastradamus is also pretty hypebeast because while Nastradamus wasnt great it wasn’t terrible had some GEMS on it like Life We Chose, Project Windows, Last Words etc etc. People really gotta stop taking their opinions from the internet and listen for themselves. That era Nas featured some of his most introspective rapping. NY State Of Mind part 2 on I Am rivals the original as well.
This is one of the dopest ways of Father Son bonding I've ever seen. I love it when Dad gets emotional, that's what music is supposed to do. I love yal both, keep up the great work!
“I Am” is a great album actually and Nostradamus is just an okay album but it has 7 to 8 songs that would go toe to toe with any great hip hop songs. So these albums are not bad as the media makes them to be, one sold almost 3M and the other went platinum, not to compare sales with greatness
I remember hearing this track when it first dropped and thinking "oh snap, illmatic Nas is back!" In the years before this he was criticized a little bit for being more commercialized. The song is amazing. This was definitely one for his illmatic fans and an answer to the criticism letting everyone know he's still on top.
The bond in this Father / Son relationship is amazing. And beautiful to watch. Very similar to the Alpha/Omega theme in this song and so many other Nas tracks. I believe it’s Nas’s way of Giving honor to the Most High every time he spits. Good Job fellas. God Bless. 👍🏾
The way in which Kai ranks the albums mentioned is perfectly aligned with the popular media narrative on Nas' music, which has been historically problematic and grossly inaccurate. The streets and those of us who have been true day 1 Nas fan's have never felt like this I Am album was weak or that there was this big drop compared to the 1st 2. I Am was incredible and it was a golden moment in Nas career. It was supposed to be a double CD, but the album was heavily bootlegged and leaked months before the scheduled release, and so he ended redoing the album last minute. A couple of the songs that were bootlegged ended up on Nastradamous but most of the make up a large portion of The Lost Tapes album, which is a gemstone within his discography . Keep doing your thing. I love watching these reactions, and Dad tearing up over the sheer excellence of Nas is priceless 🤌🏿✨️
I'm actually so-so about this album as a whole, but putting together Nas and Primo together again on "Nas Is Like" is just godly stuff. It's SUCH an amazing song.
You did not say you'd never ever do a Nastradamus track...there were at least 4 bangers on that album, because even Nas's so-called wackest album is leap years beyond other people's best albums...you need to go back and give these tracks a second listen because they thump like a mf: "Last Words", "Project Windows", "Come Get Me" & "Quiet N***as"...seriously, trust me on that recommendation as someone who bought that album the day it dropped.
I recommended this one! Its my favorite hip-hop song of all-time and what I personally consider the best hip-hop song of all time. It has everything that embodies great hip-hop to me - from the beat to the ad libs to the way Premiere constructed the hook, and obviously the lyrics and flow. I couldn't click on this one fast enough! Great video guys! Love that your dad really likes and appreciates Nas.
Ahh man I love this page and the dynamic between father and son. Especially the fact they grew up in a totally different lifestyle than hip hop. I'm in my 40s and grew up and lived some of what Nas and many others in what we call the golden era of hip hop rapped about. Dad has a great open mind. He's able to decipher the language and double entendres within the lyrics. He understands the social economical imbalance and the struggles of 'the hood' thats expressed. Keep doing a great job. I can't wait to hear what you guys say about the Purple Tape!!
This was a great reaction! You guys should do “Slow it Down” off of his last released album Magic 2 and “Once a Man, Twice a Child” from KD3, I would love to see that because those are newer songs and they are so valuable!
Maaaan this is tge most wholesome shit, dad taking the time to learn and familarize himself with something different than the world that he's known... truly amazing!
Very good reaction! I remember this album dropped my freshman year in high school and That great feeling of walking into a record store to buy the cd & listen on my Sony disc man. Good memories and classic album with no skips!
Glad that you two are reviewing one of the mist iconic songs in hip hop history.... If you were part of the culture when this sing dropped..... You know what it meant and why.... " and of course N-A-S are the letters that spell.... "
I promise some day whenever I have kid, I’ll have this type of relationship with my son! Something I never had but beautiful too see it here with y’all videos. Much love❤❤ from Portugal 🎶🇵🇹
Undying Love off this album is great and is another one of Nas' fans favorite records. The Lost Tapes, were records off I AM and Nastradamus that were leaked (there was massive leaked albums from Sony at the time and Nastradamus was basically a classic before the great songs were taken off for some reason) and those great songs were replaced with not so great songs and that's when Nas was going through the stuff with Carmen and whatnot and could not focus clearly on his music.
Is this the best Nas song? Let us know what you think.

You guys are awesome. I love your dad, I love your channel. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Another beautiful Sunday. And another great episode. I'm excited to see this video. Thanks a lot.
put together Nas 2nd 3rd and 4th album names...see what it spells out.
This is one of the dopest ways of Father Son bonding I've ever seen. I love it when Dad gets emotional, that's what music is supposed to do. I love yal both, keep up the great work!
Nas the goat
generations connect, music is heart
“I Am” is a great album actually and Nostradamus is just an okay album but it has 7 to 8 songs that would go toe to toe with any great hip hop songs. So these albums are not bad as the media makes them to be, one sold almost 3M and the other went platinum, not to compare sales with greatness
Dj premier’s beats invoke such a sense of nostalgia and epicness it’s incredible. One of the best to ever do it
I remember hearing this track when it first dropped and thinking "oh snap, illmatic Nas is back!" In the years before this he was criticized a little bit for being more commercialized. The song is amazing. This was definitely one for his illmatic fans and an answer to the criticism letting everyone know he's still on top.
NAS is the best MC/Rapper alive. "It was written" is his best work, period & I stand on that!!! 💯®️🗣️5️⃣🎤
The bond in this Father / Son relationship is amazing. And beautiful to watch. Very similar to the Alpha/Omega theme in this song and so many other Nas tracks. I believe it’s Nas’s way of Giving honor to the Most High every time he spits. Good Job fellas. God Bless. 👍🏾
Thank you, same to you! - Kai’s dad
Always love these
"his command of language" I like this phrasing ❤️
He said "boom bop"! Lol, love this guy! #pause #nohormones
Good, good stuff. Amazing song. One of my favorites from Nas.
Nas should meet this kid and his dad especially 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
My favourite nas song
Love this song
I would list to it over and over
Great video
The first i heard this song was 13 and felt goosebumps....38 STILL
I'm actually so-so about this album as a whole, but putting together Nas and Primo together again on "Nas Is Like" is just godly stuff. It's SUCH an amazing song.
Agreed!
My fav Nas song of all time! Bro went to another dimension in verse 3 🔥🔥🫡
Just said we wouldn’t do the album as a whole. I recognize there are some good tracks on it
Watching your dad bop his head along with you is too dope.
That’s how you become a good rapper and a hip hop head, you listen and the rewind and listen again to hear every line. You end up studying the song.
Nas is by far above every other artist, undoubtedly the one true 🐐
The way he sits up and leans forward when the lyrics start! Like you have to pay attention to Nas! ✌️
Nas is the Undisputed GOAT. You have a special dad, not being of the culture and able to understand the art form. Much respect 🫡
I just stumbled across this and I love their personalities 😂 pops knows his stuff!
Very good reaction! I remember this album dropped my freshman year in high school and That great feeling of walking into a record store to buy the cd & listen on my Sony disc man. Good memories and classic album with no skips!
The god. So far ahead of everyone. This track is 20years old but the lyrics are amazing now. Poetry.
Glad that you two are reviewing one of the mist iconic songs in hip hop history.... If you were part of the culture when this sing dropped..... You know what it meant and why.... " and of course N-A-S are the letters that spell.... "
beautiful reaction. "his command of language"
1:43. I used to think that until some months ago. It's slowly becoming my favourite Nas album.
I promise some day whenever I have kid, I’ll have this type of relationship with my son!
Something I never had but beautiful too see it here with y’all videos.
Much love❤❤ from Portugal 🎶🇵🇹
Great breakdown fellas!!!! Keep it up!!
The greatest to ever do it, no doubt!
Off topic but I'm really feeling this Ye Outro 🙌🏽
First time watching this channel, I love it!! 💪🏼💪🏼
