When I was about fifteen yrs old I saw movies shot in Kashmir,n I fell in love with Kashmir,n I wanted to visit Kashmir but we were not that rich to travel by air. it was next to impossible for me to go to Kashmir,India is my fatherland cos my abbu was born in India,my love for Kashmir laid hidden in me as I went about my life school,working life,I got a chance to go to India when I was in my late thirties but it was the south,I saved up again n this time I got a chance to go north ,needless to say Kashmir was in my itinery ,the day I landed in Kashmir ,I wanted to kiss the ground,but I did not I saw alot of soldiers with guns,I felt very sad but I was still happy to be there,my 3 days stay turned into 6 days,I was running up n down the house boats like as tho I have lived there all my life.i would wake up to the sound of the azaan across the lake,I was in love with Kashmir ,I loved the cool breeze ,the silence,the sound of the paddles hitting the water as the boats go by,the smell of burning wood,I even associate an attar with the smell of kashmir.i ended up marrying a Kashmiri but unfortunately we r living saperately for the past 16 yrs.my husband remarried n has a family,I live with my mom n siblings,he calls once in a while but I know we will never meet again,I m too proud but to b in Kashmir again is my never ending dream,I will go without letting my husband know cos I don't want to give him any trouble.my father in law called me his beti but he is no more.i hope my dream to b in Kashmir will come true again,I live with hope.
