7 options for a Kamala Harris VP pick

- Vice President Harris remains on a fast track to the 2024 Democratic nomination - a virtual vote could make it official as early as next week. That means she will need to pick her running mate very soon. We started to talk through some possible VP picks on Tuesday and now return to the studio to hear how Aaron Blake’s reporting and analysis have led him to zero in on seven options. He and Elahe Izadi dig further into what potential candidates would - and wouldn’t - bring to a Democratic ticket with Harris at the top.
Today’s show was produced and mixed by Rennie Svirnovskiy. It was edited by Renita Jablonski.

Why is NO ONE that is introducing us to these potential VP picks talking much about their individual policies and opinions? That’d be really interesting!
MN Gov Tim Walz is a great leader and has served in the Reserves
Number 1 Walz for me as he has strong Mid West appeal, strong on labor, excites younger and female voters with his policies. Followed by Beshear and Pritzker. While Shapiro helps with Pen he hurts Michigan and Wisconsin. Kelly is too anti labor and climate change, which hurts in the blue wall and young voters respectively. Outsider Raskin. Discussing Whitmer doesn't make sense as she already said no.
Gov Tim Walz is the best option
Too old
Great Choice
@@TheHSIHP- He is 60. Same (-1) age as Kamala Harris. He looks like an old guy but he has the fire.
No
@@Tahir_Ali true but I think the VP should actually be younger than Harris
Gretchen said no...
Yeah idk why all these news outlets are still talking about her without even mentioning that she's already said that she's not leaving Michigan....
Joe Biden says said he wasnt dropping out. Its just the political thing to say. She is actually on the list of vetting paper sent.
Tim Walz must be the guy he has the broadest appeal to me.
BESHEAR
Tim Walz would seal the deal
Yep she will lose😂
Tampon TIM 😂
@cindynations4774 that's a real knee slapper, I bet you laugh at fart jokes
I know he probably doesn't have one chance in a million, but I really like Admiral McRaven! He gave THE BEST college commencement address I've ever heard at Texas a few years ago (it's available on UA-cam), and I've admired him ever since. That said, I think her best options are Shapiro or Kelly. Let's get this done, and on with the fight!
Perot made that mistake with Stockdale.
Joe Biden for VP!
My personal choice would be Buttigieg, but I can see where Kelly may be the choice.
Mark Kelly complements Harris perfectly. He brings credibility on immigration and foreign policy that Harris lacks. He also balances out her "goofy" persona by being a straight shooter and a military guy.
Not tall enough.
@@benwagner2000Putin doesn’t care he’s short.
@@benwagner2000till take fighter pilot astronaut over height any f’n day.
I would prefer Mark Kelly over the other candidates because he has a engineering background not a law background we don't need two lawyers on the ticket we need somebody who can talk about the technical things that we need to do to solve climate change and other technical problems that Mark Kelly would be able to talk to about in detail. But I don't want to see him not be the senator from Arizona because he plays a role there and we don't want to lose that seat to a Republican if somebody else beats out a Democrat to take the seat for the next 4 years. Another alternative that is as good as Mark Kelly is his twin brother Scott Kelly. He is also an astronaut also an ex navy pilot aircraft carrier pilot In addition he has a very pro Ukraine position in the world at this point. He's an EMT from the time he was in high school. He's just not in politics right now which in a way makes it better. Eat somebody that could do the job as well as his brother. And then you'd have two Kelly's in positions of power. That would be a good thing.
Democrats don't lose the seat. It doesn't go to a vote. The Arizona governor has to appoint someone from the same party. Issue with Kelly is his anti labor stance which hurts in the rust belt and his anti green new deal stance which loses with younger voters.
@Hyde_Hill anti-labor and anti-green new deal ... sounds like a Republican.
@@Barklord Centrist. He did claw back being against the Pro Act and Robert Reich just said he is pro labor. His environmental score is still 90+ via a tracking lobby but yeah he did vote against the green new deal. Not Republican but definitely centrist.
@@Barklord Hmm just in case my original response was not posted. He is more centrist as he walked back being against the pro act (labor act) and his environmental score by a tracking group is still 90 plus. But yeah both won't do well with younger voters and blue collar unless he changes his tune a bit.
She absolutely must have PA. Shapiro is the safest bet. 19 electoral votes is a lot.
Issue is he costs you also in Michigan and Wisconsin. Walz also appeals in the blue wall.
Perhaps former congressman Ron Kind of Wisconsin should have been considered.
I think Secretary Buttigieg would be an excellent VP pick! He is exactly who they need to go up against JD Vance. They are both Millennials from the Midwest, war veterans, and Ivy-league educated attorneys. Vance won’t be able to “other” him by calling Buttigieg an out of touch coastal elite. He’s from Indiana so Vance can’t claim he doesn’t understand Midwest/heartland values. He will run circles around Vance in the debate. The Congress members need to stay put because we don’t need to risk their seats flipping to Republican, and we need to governors to stay put and make sure the elections aren’t tampered with on their states. Harris/Buttigieg 2024!
PLEASE MARK KELLY!!! PLEASE! HARRIS/KELLY 2024 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
this was interesting. thanks
Josh Shapiro for Vice President, His Smart ..
My prediction based on their game plan is PA’s Gov.
Some really good candidates that you mentioned. Admiral McRaven would be my dream choice, but I don't think it will ever happen.
jack smith for vp
Mark Kelly please
from one of the two swing states vp would be great for harris. kelly or shapiro, but if she chooses north carolina governor would help her more because southerner votes might come to her.
Hawk Tua Harris will not pick someone who overshadows her.
Harris Psaki 😊
They are such a deep bench of Democratic leaders to be proud of. However, I am leaning towards Shapiro in Pennsylvania, which is a battle state
All good names but shapiro would be the best imh PA HAVE to be carried. Kelly is good but dems really need to win in Midwest and kelly isn't as popular there. Pete would also be a good candidate but I dont think this country is ready to have gay as VP. It will shoe off lot of conservatives and moderate which dems NEED to win precidency.
My money is on Roy Cooper.
Kamala Pete dream ticket
Kelly
I really wanted Whitmer but everyone else seems to want Shapiro.
Walz or Shapiro..
COOPER PICK COOPER
4 minutes in and you still have not addressed the subject matter? You’re ridiculous.
Black Asian American woman and a White Male Hero Senator Astronaut and well known. I think the two balance each other across parties and a calm break from Trump
G
To add Kamala Harris attorney General CA Senator CA Vice president of USA. Good experience on the job
An Asian, Asian, Indian, (black?) woman
BIG GRETCH! BLUE WALL vote, MIDWEST apeal, WHITE WOMEN and MEN, MICHIGAN, BADASS CHOICE TWO WOMEN ALL THE WAAAY!
None of them think she can win. Look at the media asking them and they all say “Welll I LOVE WHAT IM DOING NOW” none of them are saying “YES OF COURSE!” they don’t want to give up their positions of power for a VP opportunity on a tanking candidate
What about Joe Manchin?
😂😂😂 Hahahahaha! NOPE.
