Any idea what happened to the checks on Thailand's buses. Did they all get done in time , how many were defective, has there been any prosecutions and what's happen to the owners of the company responsible for the deaths and then trying to hide the evidence ?

If both engines had no power they may have decided to try to use the body friction to slow the plane. There are many establishments like this. Brown envelopes from the owners can easily bypass safety standards. No fire exits, smoke detectors, or heat detectors are required. I used to work in a small hotel in the Pratunam area where the building had only two elevators and no other accessible routes. Fire exits were out of the question since the building was essentially renovated shophouses turned into a hotel. Some structures originally had only four stories but were extended to more.
Ember Hotel is an unfortunate name for the hotel where they died in the fire. And it must be a more upmarket hotel for that area. The rooms are B3,000 and up p/n. Unlike the many cheap backpacker hotels there. RIP
I wish the authorities would inspect all the hotels in the area to ensure they meet proper safety standards. I believe some of them fail to do so. How were these hotels allowed to open and operate without fire exits or any other necessary fire safety equipment? The local government officials are corrupt and turn a blind eye to safety inspections.

People have short memories. And they are also cheap. Jeju will run a promotion with lower prices than the competition and people will buy the tickets. People will buy a ticket to save a dollar even if it means a five hour layover in some crappy airport versus a quicker more expensive flight.
It took a long time for Malaysian Airlines to recover, after the shooting down over Ukraine and the other plane going missing in the Indian Ocean. And it's a much bigger airline.

Here here, my son and I were just in a minor bus crash, no one majorly hurt in any of the cars that got rear ended by our mini bus (not the van type thing) careering into them,the one thing that struck me was how quick the police arrived and got everything under control, also the speed at which to replacement bus arrived 10-15 mins I’d say. Son wants to catch the train home, I’m with him on that plan.
From the photo we can see that at least the starboard engine was in reverse thrust configuration. I put a great big circle around the screenshot photo on yesterday’s program. The nacelle is clearly retracted.

I have lived here for 13 years and it was attracting a lot of foreign tourists way before then. I remember coming here 35 years ago, when it was more a Thai resort area and but attracting foreigners too. It is probably close to the highest population of expats (at least per sq. km.) in Thailand and regularly reported in the top ten places for retiring in the world.

Happy NewYear 2025 Tim, I've followed you for years but this is my first comment. Have watched today's TNT I noticed you mentioned the 146 road deaths after 3 days of holiday travel. This is a big number but as bad as it is the number is actually lower than the annual daily average (approx 50) so when you compare with the number of vehicles on the road during this period, many times the norm. Thailand are doing a much better safety job during this period than other times of the year. Cheers

When that's finished, I'll watch on TV the NYE Fireworks here in Adelaide. Too many irresponsible, poorly behaved people on the roads to go out on occasions like this these days

There's an onboard emergency landing option that uses gravity feed that allows the wheels to drop automatically without power.

The reverse thruster engines weren't engaged and the Jet landed further down the runway rather than the start of the runway.
