- I'm struggling to get my betta fish to spawn this year and I wanted to share my story of what has been happening so far. I seem to have much better luck spawning wild bettas then the domestic betta splendens. Fish breeding is not always easy.

If the male doesn't like the current female, you can wait a day and always try another. It's best, if you introduce them with the lights off at first and then turn it on after an hour.

Ps if you breed a plakat with a halfmoon do you get a kindof in between fin type? Or will the babies be either plakats or halfmoons.
I'm not 100% sure as I've never tried before but I was told by other breeders its not good to mix fin types. I'll look into it more

Words are hard for me too some days 😍 I love how you talk and show about responsible breeding of these fish. I keep male and female. Ppl have been on you should breed this one, that one and so on. I let them finishes, then ask them if they know anything about breeding these fish. Its not like guppy fish or something. I said my males can kill my females, they can stress into sicknesses, not only that I'm set up nor do I have education to do so. The only thing I know about breeding them is that, I shouldn't.
Very informative and helpful. I rarely watch a WHOLE UA-cam video and NEVER comment but you did such a great job explaining the Betta breeding process as well as showing the actual eggs laying so beautiful and you have inspired me as well as removed any doubt I had that I could accomplish such a task. When I have my first fish fry I will send pics thx 😊

When they get around to the act it is amazingly warm and nice for the fish world...unlike the hit-and-run guppy mating ritual for example. But yes...the young Betta males are clumsy as a 16 year old boy. 😆

This has happened with me every tine I’ve tried to breed, either the male was too aggressive, or vice versa. OR the female or male were too inexperienced and just couldn’t figured the breeding process out. I’ve never had a successful pair... and it’s been a long time trying to breed. So I had to take a step back from breeding for a while. Till now, I’ve been trying to work on a string Orange/Gold HMDT line. I bought 2 Gold HM females, and one HMDT female, just need a HMDT orange male. Fingers crossed!!
Have you considered trying to get a proven pair? Some breeders may consider selling an experienced pair which would make it sooo much easier.

Oh yeah some people say that you might can use a frozen bottle but ofcourse you will have to clean it before you put it back in your freezer oh well just trying to help on that one but yeah dreams same here lol.

I just wanna say thank you for making this video! I know this is an old video but I was wanting to ask if some chasing and nipping and the female hiding alot as soon as I put her in was normal or not?
I was told lowering the time of light and having the water level can cause them to spawn due to where the live ,,,,I have heard this with dwarf cichlids but not Betta

Hey Kasia , is it possible to successfully breed bettas with out making live food for the fry? Or is that a must have. I heard fry will eat boiled egg yolk too if u dont have live food is that true

That happened to me. Try to breed 2 of my bettas and the male was just running around looking for everything else but the female.
I'm seriously considering trying the bucket method. No reflections and can't see anything but up.

I have been breeding my Betas the natural way, by this I mean I have a humungous tank 800Ltr tank and it has pretty much all my betas, both male and female in it. If they have young then so be it. My delemer/question is, over 90% of the young turn out to be males and I heard that you can boost the male/female birth rate by controlling the water temp. I have messed around with this a bit and to date have no conclusive proof this is possible. I was wondering if you have heard of this method and if so what info can you shear whit us. I know the feeling. I finally got a female dumbo from a line that I really like, and you know what the male does? Kills her! I’m still so mad at him...
That's why you be responsible and watch it very closely
If you don't responsibility watch them your male will kill your female

when you breed betta you should make sure tht your female is filled up with eggs recently not long time ago...
Old females doesn't work good
Young ones is better you should choose a young healthy female

For breeding don't put the pair in a fish tank cause the pair need privacy once they see movement or sudden on of lighting in the room they will stress and male may attack the female. A cello foam box or a smaller container will do. Also don't not put a lot hiding place for breeding cause if female gonna hide the male can't find the female will cause the male to lost interest for mating. Plenty of useful info, were you not paying attention? 1/2/3/4) it’s a stressful process, be sure to prepare them carefully, monitor them closely, be prepared to remove them promptly, give them a chance to relax & recuperate before trying again. 5) it’s easier if one or both have previous experience so they something of what they have to do to mate 6) don’t try to breed a sick or injured betta, wait until fully recovered... other tips in there too, but certainly check out her other betta videos for a more complete picture
