I picked up a Sony DVP FX820/L at my local charity shop for $3.00 The battery was completely discharged, so I plugged a compatible AC adapter into it and the battery was fully charged within 5 hours. I popped in a DVD, and the machine played perfectly. These Sony LCDs have a full 480p display. The Sylvania my sister bought 2 years ago has a lower resolution LCD. I think 240 x 380
This is nostalgic I still have my SONY FX980 DVD PLAYER it still works great unfortunately it's on its way out the battery is not lasting like it once did it only plays for about a hour and 50 minutes maybe 2 if I'm lucky its not my everyday portable DVD player anymore but I still love to pull it out of my closet and use it from time to time. Hopefully one day I'll get the built in battery rebuilt or replaced with one just like it at a battery shop and it'll last around 4 hours just like it use to. Still going strong after 6 years of use
I had this exact one in like a silver 😎I dropped it and smashed the lid off when I was like 8 years old I remember being so upset 😭 Nice one again Norcal, awesome jig too for testing load I’m going to do a copy haha 😄
I just started trying to find a place for repairs because of it’s reliable utility. I have another of different year and the same style exterior battery. I can’t find anyone near where I live in mid coast Maine. I thought I would have to ship it out initially anyway.
OMG between surface mount and leaded it has to be in the high thousands, maybe over 10000 total over 40+ years. Especially when I did a lot of Canon camcorders in the early 90s. each one had roughly 150 SMD electrolytics. Hitachi and Mitsubishi CRT and projection sets were the worst with almost 100 each. At one point I just stopped testing them and replaced all of them. Too many comebacks just a few months later if I just replaced the suspect ones as more would fail in a short period later.
I have a Sony RDR-GX355 H dvd recorder that won’t finish the disc you record it’s says it’s writing but never finishes ( not finalize the disc) I need this fix to finish my home movies of 27 years, please let me know I’ll be happy to pay there is no one in PA who can fix it. Thanks
How do you get the schematics and board views? I have a difficult time trying to find anything clean like this without shady russian sites begging for money..
Still a little rich for my blood. The Rigol, and Siglent at $499USD and the Itech at $427USD. It this were my full time gig then yes I would have one but not as a hobby. I just cant justify $500 on a $75 repair that I use maybe 2 or 3 times a year. The dummy load cost me about $40 USD and just over 1 hour to machine, drill, tap and wire. Thank you though.
I like when it's a passive component and not an ic chip...so much more fun..
Great work as usual Steve..👍
Thank you Frank!

I have an FX820 that first stopped energizing it’s screen and now is giving minimal power to the audio, both speakers or headphones

These seem to be the Achilles' heel of modern electronics! That, and leaky electrolytics..
you seem to come up with a schematic , no matter how obscure the item.... what's your source for them?
@21:48 I had that same Casio data bank watch back in the day.
you are THE MAN !!!!!!...hehehe...another good job with all that skill in your head :)
how many capacitors do you think, as a rough estimate, you've removed tested and replaced????

@@norcal715 Are you trade-trained or self taught? You certainly know what you're doing either way...just curious...
How come you didn't remove the glob of solder that protects the laser from ESD?
He did at 17:16
I did as whodatdere1 stated at 17:46

elektrotanya.com hifiengine.com and vinylengine.com plus I have many diagrams from being factory authorized for most brands for over 30+ years.
Get a proper Electronic Load instead of using those power resistors.
The resistors work great for a static DC load. Can you suggest a "proper Electronic Load"? I would be interested.
For the hobbyist (not too expensive): Rigol DL3021A, Itech IT8511A, Siglent SDL1020X-E
