Wow! Thank you for watching and such an encouraging comment, you are so kind! I am glad that it was helpful. This is a fun blanket to make. I need some new babies in my life to sew for. Our boys are done and our daughter is waiting a few more years. Do you have a lot of babies to sew for?
Hello Nana! So here we go, I am trying to do a baby blanket to my first grandchild ❤️ the big piece is 38 by 30 but I am not sure how much the Center piece should be? Could you please help me ? Thank you 😊
Oh man, I sure wish I could help. I tried to use this process for different sized pieces of fabrics and failed every time! I just resorted to making this size only. I am so sorry.
I’ve made many of these. Always a beautiful gift for baby or a little lap quilt for grandma or grandpa. I’ve made another version of this by sewing all four corners to the underneath fabric then fit in the top fabric inside and sew all around. I found it quite a bit easier, that way. For me at least, it worked out better. Both have the same end result. Great tutorial. Thank you.
Thanks for watching and leaving such a kind comment. We are truly blessed more than we deserve. We thank God for his grace and mercies every day. Blessings to you and yours as well.
Thank you for watching and commenting. We appreciate our watchers commenting. I hope with this crazy nationwide shelter in place you are (like us) getting lots of projects done. Stay safe and keep watching!
I watched other tutorial on this blanket h made 3. I had so much trouble with the mitered corners. I about passed your up for that reason, but decided only 9 mins so I'll watch. I enjoyed not having to listen to a bunch of nonsense & giggling. Your was easy listening & easy following. You might want to slow down @ corner instructions bc this is different from other corners, at least for me, & you may want to repeat it once. When I tuned you in I was on my way to my cutting table to cut out another one of these blankets. Have a new gt granddaughter due any time. TY. I am going to subscribe bc I like your presentation. Best wishes
Thank you for watching, commenting and subscribing! You are too kind with your words but they are appreciated. This was a difficult project for me…I am a no fuss kind of person. This was challenged to me to try and make and I am so glad I did. So glad that Pops encouraged me to make this video. You can speed up or slow down any video by hovering over that little gear wheel thing. We do need to slow this down, for sure. Pops always tells me not to gab while showing what I am doing, it’s a distraction. 😂🤔🫣. Thanks again!
Thank you for a really easy-to-follow tutorial! I have made these using fleece, which adds warmth for the Midwestern babies for whom I sew. It also makes it easier to get the back from one cut of fabric, for a larger blanket. The fleece fabric is stretchier, so you have to be extra careful. Also I have used PUL fabric and flannel to make protective pads for baby changing. They easily store in a diaper bag, and are machine washable. Gentle wash/ hang dry (preferred) or low heat. I'd love to see you make a baby pad with PUL and flannel, they are so useful.
Thanks for watching and the great information. I have tried to make a larger one with fleece and that was an epic failure. I got my dimensions wrong and it was a mess. We are currently building so nearly all sewing and fun projects are on a hold. I will be glad to get back to sewing and give your suggestions a try! Happy new year!
Thanks for this video! I had to watch a few times to get my miters right, but it turned out great! So cute and very easy. I'll definitely make more of these.
Thanks for watching and commenting. A big thanks for the constructive comment about having to watch a few times. It helps us make better videos. Tip for next time, you can slow any video down by using the wheel on the video screen. It helps a lot!
Thank you for watching and the kind comment. I love it too! I have been making baby blankets for 25 years, this is a game changer in my gift giving bag!
Thank you for watching and making a great comment. That is such a great idea, placing a dot! I will try that next time I make one of these. Happy New Year!
I enjoyed this video very much. I’m not a very experienced sewer so I wish the video of the corners had been just a little slower. A very cute blanket💙
Thanks for watching and commenting. You can always slow the video (any video) down or speed it up by clicking on the little wheel icon on the video and adjusting its speed to your liking. We are definitely getting better about our video speed. Thanks for the constructive criticism, it is very much appreciated and will guide us in our future filming projects.
THANK YOU! Love this video. Quick and precise. Sometimes it takes 5 mins of listening to fluff before the tutorial starts. I have subscribed and can't wait for Nana to teach me more crafts!
AWW! Thanks for watching, subscribing and leaving an encouraging comment. I am so glad that this video worked out for you. This is a fun blanket to make. Thanks again!
Martha Humphrey thanks for watching and leaving a comment. It is a cozy little blanket. Perfect for snuggling baby with. It was very simple, my favorite projects are simple!
Thanks for watching and leaving a great suggestion. Honestly, I have gone into the video and done the same when trying to figure out where I went wrong with my corners....even I need to re-watch it to make sure I did it right. I hope you enjoyed making the blankie for your little bundle of joy!
Thanks for watching and commenting! This was an early video we did. Hopefully we are getting better...especially with the speed and audio. It is a fun blanket to make!
Thanks for watching and commenting. You can do this! It is pretty simple. I am not a complicated project person and that’s what makes this a perfect project. Try slowing the video down by using the gear icon on the screen. Excited for your new found project. Let me know how it turns out.
Awww, thank you for your sweet words and blessing. Also a big thank you for watching and commenting on our video. We appreciate it. Keep watching and may you be richly blessed!
Mary R White thanks for watching and leaving us great, useful criticism, we appreciate that. This was one of our earlier videos and we hope that we are improving on those types of things.
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. Hmm, I would think that you could. I haven't tried. Maybe if you baste or sew the batting to the top to make sure it is in place before attaching the pieces together? I try to avoid making things with batting because I almost always mess them up! Quilting is not my strong suit. I love to piece but not to layer/sandwich & quilt. If you try it, please come back and let me know. I am sure others would like to know the answer to that. Thanks again, we appreciate your watching and question!
You could use a piece of batting the size of the finished blanket on your larger piece of fabric. But baste it on, so that it stays attached to that fabric before you do your sewing. An easier method would be to use flannel for your smaller piece, and a fleece fabric for your larger piece. You could also use fleece fabrics for both colors. One of the advantages to this is you can make a larger than 40 inch square from fleece, which usually is about 58 inches wide. I made one with a larger piece of fleece and a smaller piece of printed flannel. I think the finished blanket ended up being about 45 in long, so it was bigger than a blanket for a tiny baby. It worked well and looked really cute, but you do have to be careful because it's easy to pull a knit fabric out of place.
Thanks for asking a great question! I am not really sure about making it into a pillow case as it needs to be 2 squares. I love to make this blanket. It is quick, fun and cute! Thanks for watching and leaving a great question!
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. I have heard that too about the edge but I have never removed it. Not sure that it makes a difference. I have the first two of these I made here and after a few times washing it seems to still be ok.
I have watched this video and it is rather fast. I can't quite grasp exactly what you did with the mitered corners; is there any written instructions for this. I make baby blankets but I don't do mitered corners and this would make them look more professional. I am going to try this without directions and see how it goes!
betty young thanks for watching and commenting. This was one of our earlier videos, yes we sped it up a bit much. After one or two tries it gets to become natural. I never made these types of blankets before I found this method. You can slow the video down on the bottom right corner of the screen. It is a gear icon, should have a red HD, click the icon, playback speed then slow it down. Enjoy the fun new way to make a blanket.
I know this video is 4 years old but I have a question...The 1/4 inch marks you make from each end on the smaller piece is to tell you where to stop sewing is that because you're using 1/4 inch seam? I am sewing a blanket that is going to use a 1 inch seam allowance. Should I make my marks at 1 inch?
Thanks for watching and asking a great question, I am sorry it took me so long to respond. I am 99% sure that the 1/4" mark is because I used a 1/4" seam. I have tried to replicate this blanket with larger pieces of fabric for bigger kids and have failed at every attempt (all 3 of them). As I stated in the video, this was out of my comfort zone and a little more fussy than projects I prefer to do. I was shown this by a relative that is an expert seamstress & quilter. I would think that you are correct about the 1" but I am not certain. Let me know how it turns out, you have certainly peaked my interest. Happy, seam ripper free, sewing! ;)
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. There is a comment above that someone said they have done that, I have not successfully done it. Let me know if you try it and how it turns out.
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. I am sure that you could, maybe make the batting 5" wider all the way around than the inner/smaller piece of fabrc (purple one in this video). Have fun making these, they are lots of fun!
Grazie mille per il video facile e veloce da realizzare complimenti Per favore potresti realizzare una copertina più elegante magari con l'utilizzo di merletti? Grazie mille di 💙💜💚spero presto in un tuo nuovo video grazie
Thanks for watching and the kind comment. I was going through a rough hair time, I was growing my hair out and it was in a terrible way. I gave this blanket as a gift so I would have to make another to remake the photo.
So sorry that I did not have an opportunity to translate and properly reply yesterday. The fabric is 40" square for small piece and 50" square for the large piece.
M hmmm, did you already sew them? I usually peek at them when I finish stitching each one BEFORE I clip the extra. A mistake I have found (often) when I make these is I fold the sides in the wrong direction (smaller fabric on outside with larger fabric on inside of fold). Make sure you fold with large fabric on outside and small fabric on inside (I call it bread and peanut butter. I even check my notes every time to make sure because I have cut before checking and it reprint the entire project. That always makes it not align, If this isn’t the problem then I am not sure what it is, you may just need to rip the stitch and start again.
Loved the idea and technique. The video did go kind of fast especially where you were showing what you had done. Barely time to get the hang of what you did. Plus it didn’t have time to get the piece in focus. Can’t wait to try it though.
Thank you for watching and leaving some great constructive criticism. This was an earlier video and I tried to film most of it without Pops home (major mistake on my part). We appreciate you pointing out the improvements needs as I will have more sewing videos in the future. I hope you were able to still make this awesome blanket. It is a favorite of mine to make.
Thanks for watching and asking a great question! I agree, large pieces of fabric make me nervous. This was just about as big of a piece that I like to handle at a time.
Yliana Romero thanks for watching and leaving a very helpful statement. We appreciate all of the constructive criticism we get. You can slow the video down within UA-cam if you need to, I am sorry this wasn’t as helpful as it could have been. Thanks again for your time both in watching and commenting.
Megan Nichole oh no! I am so sorry. I marked the center on all sides on both pieces of fabric. I also marked 1/4” in from the corners. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and leaving me a comment so I know where to improve.
Thanks for watching and leaving a helpful, constructive criticism. It is greatly appreciated! I am sorry that it went too fast. One thing that is helpful for all videos, especially this one, is to tap the gear icon in the lower part of the screen and slow (or speed) up the video you are watching. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment, it will help us to improve our future videos.
I am so sorry that it was too fast. There is a little gear at the bottom of the screen when you watch the video that you can speed up or slow down the speed. Enjoy making these cute little blankets!
This probably makes a lot of sense if you know how to sew. But if you are just learning, the video is far too fast, and it does not show you clearly exactly what you are doing.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I am definitely a "novice" sewist, this was out of my normal comfort zone and it was an early video in our UA-cam career. If you go to the little wheel on the video screen you can speed up (or slow down) the video and get a better idea of what is going on. Happy sewing!
Thanks for watching and commenting. We have learned to slow them down. Thanks for that tip. You can go to the bottom of any UA-cam video and click on the wheel to speed up or slow down any video.
Thanks for attempting to watch and leaving great constructive criticism. I apologize that you were unable to successfully watch it. We are improving with our video & editing skills everyday. If you would like to watch it slower, there is a gear on the lower right side of the video that you can customize the speed of all UA-cam videos. Thanks again, we appreciate your time and input!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m sorry that it it too fast. This was one of our earlier videos, comments like yours have helped us improve. You can click on the little settings wheel on the bottom right corner of the screen and slow down or speed up any video. Hope this helps.
Thanks for watching and commenting. There is a gear at the lower part of the screen that you can speed up or slow down the video. About the noise, if you mean the music, Pops is getting much better about that. We always disagree on if the music is needed or not. Thanks again for the comment, we appreciate it!
Thank you for watching and leaving a great criticism, we really appreciate it so we can get better at producing content. One helpful suggestion we received on this (and any video) is to slow the watch speed down using the little gear icon on the bottom right side of the video screen. Thanks again for watching , we appreciate your time.
Thanks for watching and let us know how we can improve, we really appreciate this kind of feedback, it is quite helpful! For this (and all other videos), you can adjust the speed by clicking on the little wheel in the video screen to speed it up or slow it down. I am so sorry if this disappointed you or caused you any frustration. Don't give up on this blanket though, it is so worth the time to create it. Thanks again for the constructive criticism....it is really appreciated by us, we can always use it. Have a fantastic day!
Easy to follow and thorough instructions. Thank you!

Can I use batting on the inside, and if so do I cut it the size of the inside fabric?
Can u do a pillowcase like that thank u i love it
Thanks for asking a great question! I am not really sure about making it into a pillow case as it needs to be 2 squares. I love to make this blanket. It is quick, fun and cute! Thanks for watching and leaving a great question!
Thank you for the great tutorial. What decorative stitch did you use?
Irma Gonzalez thanks for watching and asking a great question. I usually use what my Mom calls a blanket stitch.
It looks like you left the salvage edge on the material? I was told that you should always cut off that salvage edge. Is that the case in the blanket?
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. I have heard that too about the edge but I have never removed it. Not sure that it makes a difference. I have the first two of these I made here and after a few times washing it seems to still be ok.

betty young go to a UA-cam channel called Shabby Fabrics they have a tutorial on this blanket that shows a lot of close up shots.
@@aussiemummy2676 I was going to suggest Shabby Fabrics, the video is slower, close ups and no annoying music competing with her voice.

Thank you for watching and leaving some great constructive criticism. This was an earlier video and I tried to film most of it without Pops home (major mistake on my part). We appreciate you pointing out the improvements needs as I will have more sewing videos in the future. I hope you were able to still make this awesome blanket. It is a favorite of mine to make.
merhaba lütfen ölçü verirmisiniz
İzlediğiniz için teşekkürler. Umarım bu yardımcı olur. Küçük kare 76,2 cm x 76,2 cm ve büyük kare 101,6 cm x 101,6 cm
Does anyone else get overwhelmed by cutting large pieces of fabric...or is it just me.
Thanks for watching and asking a great question! I agree, large pieces of fabric make me nervous. This was just about as big of a piece that I like to handle at a time.
Too fast video I couldn’t see details
Yliana Romero thanks for watching and leaving a very helpful statement. We appreciate all of the constructive criticism we get. You can slow the video down within UA-cam if you need to, I am sorry this wasn’t as helpful as it could have been. Thanks again for your time both in watching and commenting.
I can’t see where you’re marking. Ughhhhh
Megan Nichole oh no! I am so sorry. I marked the center on all sides on both pieces of fabric. I also marked 1/4” in from the corners. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and leaving me a comment so I know where to improve.
Went too fast to follow what you were doing when you fast forwarded video.
Was a little to fast but thanks any way
I am so sorry that it was too fast.
Please slow the video down for us beginners. Went way to fast
Thanks for watching and commenting. We have learned to slow them down. Thanks for that tip. You can go to the bottom of any UA-cam video and click on the wheel to speed up or slow down any video.
Too fast. Makes my head spin
The video is going way to fast. My poor brain can't keep up.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m sorry that it it too fast. This was one of our earlier videos, comments like yours have helped us improve. You can click on the little settings wheel on the bottom right corner of the screen and slow down or speed up any video. Hope this helps.
Too fast.. Too noisy!!
Thanks for watching and commenting. There is a gear at the lower part of the screen that you can speed up or slow down the video. About the noise, if you mean the music, Pops is getting much better about that. We always disagree on if the music is needed or not. Thanks again for the comment, we appreciate it!
Not a good video. Cannot see what you do
Thank you for watching and leaving a great criticism, we really appreciate it so we can get better at producing content. One helpful suggestion we received on this (and any video) is to slow the watch speed down using the little gear icon on the bottom right side of the video screen. Thanks again for watching , we appreciate your time.
Too fast!
