That is a palace compared to the hospitals I've been locked up in. The cells are usually only about 12 feet long by about 8 feet wide. They only have a bed with a solid rubber mat and pillow. Pens and pencils are absolutely not allowed, only one supervised phone call per day, definitely no mobile devices allowed in the cell block. The standard day consists of waking up by being shouted at, given massive amounts of drugs that make you feel like you going to die, having a tiny meal, being shouted at some more, go to bed and hope you don't wake up in the morning... the best part is that it's completely legal to treat disabled people like this but its illegal to treat criminals in prison like this.

You might be confusing what an Acute Psych Ward and a Residential Psych Treatment facility is. Acute Psychiatric Wards (the word Ward tells you everything you need to know) are in the hospital and they are locked units with restrictions to the patients and visitors including STAFF. A psych ward not only prevents the patient from accessing the outside but also prevents the patients from having access inside to things that they can harm themselves with. Meaning the rooms are totally empty, a bed usually attached to the ground with screws, a solid mattress with anti suffocation linen, and sometimes a pillow depending on the severity of the patients illness. Bathrooms have everything anti-self harm made, sometimes a Velcro cushion door that doesn’t even close completely. No hygiene utensils left to the patient unsupervised, and if given some soap usually will be liquid or a small bar placed in a paper /foam cup for you to use not even directly from the original bottle. You barely have toilet paper if safe for you to use. Some patients can’t even have anything at all because they will try to swallow it even if supervised. Some of them need to be restrained to their beds because of their behaviour . A Psych Residential Treatment Facility, is different, there depending on the type of treatment they offer it can be on a separate area of the hospital or even on an outside outpatient facility. Those usually are spluttered into 2 , Psychosocial Residential Treatments, or Substance Abuse Treatments, Psychosocial Residential Facilities, receive stable psychiatric patients with psychiatric conditions other than Substance Abuse, in that facility , even when prevented from escaping it, there is freedom, policy of the facility decides what the patient can have or can not, but usually they will have a regular bedroom, regular bathroom with regular hygiene utensils they can store themselves in their room, although this doesn’t mean they will have access to razors, or scissors, anything that could be used as a sharp object to inflict harm is usually removed and when needed for hygiene a nurse would be supervising the patient and will receive the item back to be stored in a locked box. There usually patients have access to the outside controlled settings like a garden or even a pool, different areas the facility may provide for the patients to relax or share time together. All of this within a controlled environment, they aren’t allowed to exit the facility into the world yet, and also they aren’t allowed to have certain things with them yet. This is done in order to prepare the patient to integrate themselves back into society when they are stable and showed stability for a certain about of weeks or months. This treatments usually last from 3 months to a year. Same thing for substance abuse specific facilities where the patients is restrained from accessing any medication or substance, but they also have regular clothes, and live in an enclosed controlled environment. The purpose of this facilities is to give treatment to patients in a less restrictive environment and prepare them to come back to regular life….they are still considered psychiatric facilities due to the fact they treat only patients with psychiatric issues, from the worse to the least worse, usually depression, eating disorders, trauma, substance or alcohol abuse, and other issues!! This is clearly the reason why you probably have access to all you have! In any psychiatric ward you would’ve ever let inside with your boots laces !! Either not you but another suicidal patient can take them out of your sight and harm themselves. If your psychiatric issue is unstable and you’re in an unstable and not safe crisis you will be deemed appropriate for an Acute Inpatient Psych facility or floor of the hospital until you do not show signs of improvement or stability you can’t be released to a less restrictive environment as the residential treatment facility or your home.
When I was in psychosis I just straight up asked the person at the desk everyday for more drugs and they’d always correct me and say it’s medication. They’re all do gooders who don’t realize they’d act the exact same way if put in the right situation. Being in a psyche ward full of people who were pushed to the brink was definitely an experience.

There was a waterfall near us, such a lovely thin streak of water, like a thread but white and moving. It fell from a great height, but it looked quite low, and it was half a mile away, though it did not seem fifty paces. I loved to listen to it at night, but it was then that I became so restless. Sometimes I went and climbed the mountain and stood there in the midst of the tall pines, all alone in the terrible silence, with our little village in the distance, and the sky so blue, and the sun so bright, and an old ruined castle on the mountain-side, far away. I used to watch the line where earth and sky met, and longed to go and seek there the key of all mysteries, thinking that I might find there a new life, perhaps some great city where life should be grander and richer--and then it struck me that life may be grand enough even in a psychward.
anyone in the comments saying this looks nicer than the typical psych ward and that this person is ‘lucky’… here in the uk some of our wards also look very nice, (and yes phones are allowed at all of them generally), but a nice building or facilities means nothing when the staff are at best rude and at worst further traumatising the patients. i think anyone in these comments who’s actually dealt with the mental health system & inpatient facilities should know that any psych ward is guaranteed to be horrific regardless of the budget they had when building the place.

Problems with violent crime and drugs cannot be solved until mental health is treated instead of being swept under the rug by facilities like this... In my experience, this is one of the better ones, too. You're lucky to be in one of the better facilities, most of them are not like this. The average mental illness experience, at least in the U.S., is like having dumpster juice poured on an open wound. People need help and they're being tortured and/or contained against their will and then thrown back into society worse off than before. I just hope things change... Sorry but I needed to vent.

IN MOST CASES YOU CAN HAVE YOUR PHONE. IF UT IS RESIDENTIAL, MOST TIMES ADULTS CAN HAVE THEIR PHONES AS WELL. also at a residential program i wasbat before, we could have our phoens ubder directe super vision to call friends or family at free will. ut was a KINORS ONLY FACILITY AS WELL. keep this in minr. this is atleast how it is where i live.
A lot of American psych wards don’t allow you to have personal stuff like phone and clothing. We have to be in clothes they provide and everything is taken way like if you were going to jail. It sucks
My psych ward had the sharpest edges known to man kind and you best believe every patient would show up to the day room with new scars and bleeding wounds.
Telling someone that thier faking a mental illness is not ok people have to learn to stop hating she is telling the truth, some people don’t have as bad mental illnesses and can have the stuff she has and some can’t she is telling the truth ❤
I think people who have been committed just want to know where any of this stuff is allowed. No products with alcohol, no cords are the rules for anywhere I've ever been. That's the common experience. Its hard to believe her if you've ever been in the psych ward.
I see so many comments here complaining about not being able to have electronics and other things during their psych ward stay and I get that. It’s not fun to be in a psych ward or a hospital for mental health reasons. However, I think some of the patients and family members just don’t understand exactly why these rules are in place. Everything they do or take away from you is out of concern for your own safety. Phones can be used as a weapon, earbuds can be used as a weapon against yourself, clothing with strings can be used as a weapon. You can’t have complete privacy because it’s the staff’s job to make sure you aren’t going to harm yourself. As someone who works at a hospital and specifically sits with behavioral and mental health patients, I c an understand the frustrations, but trust me, we are doing what we can to make sure you are safe. It’s not a perfect system but it’s better than the alternative of letting you hurt yourself or worse. Mental health is important 💜
right? like they dont realize theyll literally try eating their phone or using it as a weapon - you cant have nice things when literally anything can (and is) used for harm
This ^^^ All of this. Worked in vol and invol for 25 years. Anything can be used as a weapon of for self harm if the intent is strong enough. It's not club med. It's to keep folks alive until they want to live.
when i was struggling with anorexia, they put me in a psych ward (and for some reason they put me on suicide watch?) and they took all my shit away 😟😟 there were grown ass men force feeding me
Maybe if psychwards in America weren't like fucking jails where you're forced against your will into maybe people would be more inclined to get their mental health treated.
I'm sorry 😞 I'm in a private hospital so they are less strict about stuff unless you do something then they'll send you to public which is way stricter with rules
she may be residential, jve been in residential wards and units as well and theyre USUALLY long term, many monrhs or years depending on a case by case sorta thing, and theyre very homey normally, a proper bedroom and nore frredoms when it comes to peesonal items
In Illinois if you are having mental health issues you can go to thorek hospital and tell them you can't be by yourself and you're thinking of self harm and ask them to put you in a nursing home. If they deny you go to another hospital like south shore hospital that used to be known as Norwegian and tell them you can't be by yourself you need a nursing home to live in like Lydia healthcare in Robbins Illinois or Albany care and tell them you don't feel safe by yourself and ask for Seroquel medication at bedtime
It's because it's a private low risk setting. I've been in high risk and what you're allowed is all depending on your illness and risk at the time. But all hospitals I've been in Australia allow you to have your phone
@@mentalhealthwithalana they literally cant be, kids flip out and would do anything like trying to eat their phone or use it as a weapon. you cant have nice things in a place where they're constantly destroyed or used for harm 😂🤦🏻♂️

Can anyone tell me what county this is please
Australia Queensland
@@mentalhealthwithalana im glad taxpayer dollars from many workers below the poverty line have to go towards your monthly psych ward visits
You have really good self care skills. ❤ I hope life is going ok xx
some of these people have never heard or bren through the psych system and it shows. she could be residential, which yes i have experiamce with residential, residential secure where theres no elevtronics, ive been in hospital low med and high sec in my 18 years of life. i was on young aduly HOSPITAL WARDS EVEN at sixteen. on those ADULT WARDS and in ADULT CARE.
They didnt let me have any type of electronic im so jealous!
Its hard to believe her if you've ever been in the psych ward.
were you forced to be strip searched? if it makes u uncomfy dont asnwer! 😢
It’s a much nicer place than where I was, good luck on your recovery
At least you got nice stuff 😭
Which psych ward allows products with alcohol?
Ive been to a few and that body spray would be the first thing confiscated.
This ^^^
All of this. Worked in vol and invol for 25 years. Anything can be used as a weapon of for self harm if the intent is strong enough.
It's not club med. It's to keep folks alive until they want to live.
@@EuropeanLoyalist omg why do they try eating their phones ? thts scary
Love it when you can see if someone is mentally ill.
Damn i wanna go here for my next grippy socks vacation
green hair and black lips, its like a hivemind of fatherless (they/thems)
Oh dang maybe if my sister went to this one it wouldn’t have made her worse. Nicest psych ward I’ve ever seen/heard of
they let you have your phone?
Australia yes
I'm happy that those things exist
I wish this was allowed in American psych hospitals
Nah America is based off a prison system. From school, to work and beyond.
when i was struggling with anorexia, they put me in a psych ward (and for some reason they put me on suicide watch?) and they took all my shit away 😟😟 there were grown ass men force feeding me
That is so inhumane and horrible 😢 I'm so sorry 😞
Picture yourself in her shoes..
She absolutely doing her best.
I did escape the state hospital San Antonio three times I'm the king of psychology I have over 60 evaluations
@@mentalhealthwithalana then don’t call it a psychward you donut
It looks warm and you have space......I wonder what you struggle with to be there.
Sounds horrible!
You get your phone in the psyc wards? Ive never been to one, im 11 and my parents threatend to put me in one
Dude there's no way this is real you don't get anything like that in the psych ward
I agree. Ppl in psych wards aren't allowed to have electronics either
she may be residential, jve been in residential wards and units as well and theyre USUALLY long term, many monrhs or years depending on a case by case sorta thing, and theyre very homey normally, a proper bedroom and nore frredoms when it comes to peesonal items
@@Arthur.Morgans.Wife114 shes an adult, atleast where i am, adults ARE jndeed alpud their elevtronics but yeau
@@thegamingoboist2702 ohh! i didnt know that! ive been doing research on psych wards, so thank you this was super helpful
@@thegamingoboist2702 that sounds like a good place I had bottom of the barrel coverage lol glad I'm not in there anymore!
Try being in a medium secure hospital nothing like that
I have been in a high security ward
Ridiculous!!
Bro what
Phone, earphones, shoe laces, custom bedsheets, where is this psych ward 😂
Yeah tell me about it......
She looks annoying
In Illinois if you are having mental health issues you can go to thorek hospital and tell them you can't be by yourself and you're thinking of self harm and ask them to put you in a nursing home. If they deny you go to another hospital like south shore hospital that used to be known as Norwegian and tell them you can't be by yourself you need a nursing home to live in like Lydia healthcare in Robbins Illinois or Albany care and tell them you don't feel safe by yourself and ask for Seroquel medication at bedtime
She looks a little off. Im from West Virginia I know what Im talking about.😂
What part? Im from the 304 too
I searched all over the internet, I cannot even find one in my country.
Girl u look so pretty😭💗💗
i have a quick question but are usually allow to have ur phones in the psyc ward places?
In Australia in the ones I've been to you are but it may differ state to state or what country you're in
It's not criminal sentence so ye it's probably voluntary aswell hospital will put people in for a week or so to try medication out
@@mentalhealthwithalanaokay thank you i was just wondering
Pretty nice digs for a psych ward.
It's because it's a private low risk setting. I've been in high risk and what you're allowed is all depending on your illness and risk at the time. But all hospitals I've been in Australia allow you to have your phone
I fell deep into depression when I was younger and self harming is a thing I do most of the time
I'm sorry hun 😞
I'm glad psych wards have made huge progress and treat patients with respect. This is what a psych ward should look like. It is a place of healing.
Yes definitely! Unfortunately many are not like this
@@mentalhealthwithalana they literally cant be, kids flip out and would do anything like trying to eat their phone or use it as a weapon. you cant have nice things in a place where they're constantly destroyed or used for harm 😂🤦🏻♂️
Bullshit they inject you with antipsychotics that make U feel dizzy and lethargic
i know this is an old vid. but keep your head up girl, much love from washington DC.
Yep. With big long boot laces and a phone that connects to the internet and all. Even spray that has alcohol as an ingredient!
What does this mean someone explain please ❤
I've always wondered what they are like because for years I've been wanting to admit myself to a psych ward just to get better help and to get away from my psychotic, hepicritical, toxic family.
Been there, done that. Very positive experiences
Need someone to talk to? I remember being 51/50d and we would get Phone time and everyone would cry even the people who act so tough.
They allow mobiles? Posh psych room yeah. I hope you're doing well... cheers
No but I actually love how the voice at the start went with the music because it sounded like the voice was singing or smthn lol
That’s gotta be the lowest sec psych ward I’ve seen 😭, the ones I’ve been in have been a tiny room with a concrete floor
When I was 8 I went to one of these I would cry every day, sometimes my mom says she will take me back if I’m not good, it’s not my fault I have autism
You got this babe ❤ you’re beautiful!
I thought that the little robot voice was about to bust out some fire ass bars at first
damn how do you have all this , ive been locked up in psych ward when i was 16 and it felt like maximum security prison with 15 minute check ups and nothing but bed and a black square drawn on a wall for no reason for 8 whole days
Got that beautiful red head look.
Do Meds and Therapy cure??
Just don’t get complacent or institutionalised, learn and move in , ur a nice girl stay positive
you're very beautiful! I hope you feel better in the future. ♥️ i was at different psychiatries a few times. greetings from switzerland.
