So true!" Those that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy". Truth( from the way it is in the heart) ,even before God sets us free. When we lie to ourselves ,like the Pharisees,God abandon us to our ways and conceit,knowing such is not ready or seeking salvation which they assume they already have.
Therefore, one of those who dwells in the holy hills of Zion( Psalm 15), is one who speaks truth from the heart. Satan is the father of all lies and uses same to deceive the simple and hypocrites who choose dishonesty,until they are taken out of the way.
When Judas was observing lying vanities and mindful of the woman's lavished oil on Jesus,that could have been sold to give to the poor,deep down his heart he was only concerned about that proceed coming to the poor purse he was in charge,so he could steal much more. And so eventually dominated by same greed to sell( betray) his master as many do today,choosing to serve Baal instead of God almighty.
Thessalonians said,those who did not like truth were given over to delusion. Its subtle but starts with lying because our hearts list for vanities( lying vanities).
God resist the proud in heart governed by lies, but gives grace to the humble to gravitate towards truth.
