- To achieve its 10-foot load floor length, Ford added an 18-inch extension to the rear of the Econoline van body and Super Van was born. But was this 1972 version Ford’s first use of the Super Van nameplate? And what does legendary “Kalifornia Kustomizer” George Barris have to do with things? Watch and see!

Hope you are feeling better Steve. God bless you brother.
THINKING ABOUT YOU AND HOPING FOR YOUR FULL COMPLETED RECOVERY, STEVE!!!!!!!!!!
Drove a brand new one in 74, delivering TV's and "Hi-Fi" stereos in floor cabinets. They were bigger than the TV's! Bought my wife's wedding rings with that part time job. Cheers 🇨🇦
These second gen Econolines were EVERYWHERE in the '70s - and then they were all gone.
Rust.
Van slowly making it's way to the center of the Earth...
Hope you're feeling good brother.
I had a 1972 Econoline E300. I made it into a shagin wagon. Mag wheels, fridge, sink, two beds, carpeted ceiling, fancy interior lights. It was awesome. Some years later we bought a 1992 Econoline Club Wagon. Married then and 2 kids. We travelled all the way from Ontario to the Maritimes on a holiday. The Club Wagon was the best family hauler. Thanks for posting Steve.
Thanks Steve, get well soon. I had a 70 Club Wagon with a 3 on the tree. No power anything, no front passenger seat or other seating but Shag carpet everywhere 😂
One of my uncles was a mail carrier (or mailman as we called them then). He owned one of these and used it on his route. I recall being fascinated by the doghouse and the fact the engine was "right there". Wow, some old memories coming back. Thank you as always, keep healing Mr Magnante ~ Chuck
My dad bought a '74 Super Van w/302 in about '77. It was cargo style with just 2 front seats and a lot of real estate in the rear. However it had rear AC (duct work that ran the length of the driver's side), so it was a great canvas. With the crushed velvet seats out of an Olds, the easily available shag carpeting, an 8 track stereo w/CB, and a cool panel that turned seats into a bed, it was the ultimate 70's travel van. My dad had mad skills! I wish I had pics of that beauty. Long before mandatory seat belt laws, we kids ran around the interior non stop. Good times!
Dr. Steve just on the Utube and noticed that you are back on. I can’t even tell you how happy I am to see you feeling better. Being a car nut for decades I’ve always enjoyed your knowledge of the automobile especially the love of the all things Chrysler . Welcome back Doc
You forgot to mention hot wheels super van’s!😂those were very popular during the 70s, I still have a few of them! Great revisiting this video again! Thank you Steve! Hope you’re doing well.🙏😎👍
Back about 40 years ago a friend bought one of these used to convert into a camper. It was freshly painted seafoam green, but if you looked really carefully in the rear side panels, you could see "SEARS" about a foot high.
Something we learned from this one is load capacity comes at a price. This was an E-300 and that ton and a half capacity gave him immense, stiff leaf-springs. It would have rode just fine if he hauled around a ton of bricks, but he was running it close to empty so the thing rode as if the axles were bolted directly to the frame!
Trucks like E-100 and E-150 don't exist just because they are cheaper: they are simply better suited to hauling light loads and not shaking the occupants like an earthquake.
We're all pulling for you Steve. Hope to see you back in the Junkyard soon
Great episode Steve. We all wish you the best as you continue to recover, and we’ll love having you back full steam. This particular episode brought back a lot of memories. I put down more miles than I can guess behind the wheel of a ‘70 Econoline 300 Super Van with a 302 and 3 on the tree. It was surprisingly comfortable and the only bad thing I can about it was that it loved gas stations. I ran that van until it had close to 250k miles on it before I sold it. I missed it every day from then on. Eventually I ended up with a ‘94 E250 Chateau Club Wagon. That was the greatest, most comfortable people mover and workhorse I’ve ever owned. In my book, the Van era never died!
My Dad had several of these vans. He build a wood divider across side to side just behind the seats and shoveled over 6" of dirt in and carried a calf from Florida to Maryland once......funny but true.
Steve has daily dates with all his tube fans,, keep it going mr. 👏🏽
Thank you Steve!👍
I had a van that looked just like this one. Used more oil than gas. Tons of fun though.
Still working the algorithm Steve 👍
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️😎👀👍. Monday Class in the yard with Professor Steve ! Agree these vehicles were do all ! 🍎✏️📓🎓🛞🛞
Another day closer to getting back to the yards. As stated last time:
No, it's been a while since the Econoline (E Series) went out of production as cargo and passenger vans, that year being 2014. Today, you can still buy an "E Series", but it's cutaway or stripped chassis only. The van duty is handled by the Transit in the Ford line if you want a van. Most Transits are assembled at "KCAP" (Kansas City Assembly Plant in Kansas City, MO/Claycomo Assembly) and E series are made in Avon Lake, OH (aka Ohio Assembly).
No VIN, can't win, but many of these were assembled in Lorain, OH (like the one you showed yesterday) which operated from 1958 to 2005. Yes, various companies have had to pay for the use of a name. GM paid SCCA $5 for each car sold for the use of the Trans Am name----a well spent and wise investment.
I wonder if Mr. Magnante's cat has a car themed name? Maybe "Scatpack"? LOL
Haven't seen u lately. Hope everything is good and we see steve back soon
@@Fony_turgeson I've been here. Sometimes the comments don't stick for some reason on certain videos. YT can be weird like that.
Scatpack is taken....😅
@@LongIslandMopars Back in 1983, my father was outside working on my grandfather's car and a very friendly stray dog came along. He sat with my dad for like a month, coming and going every day. He was some sort of Husky/Shepherd/Lab mix, but a real beauty and very, very friendly. He would sit there all day and keep my dad company. My dad would give him water and a piece of whatever he was eating. He took it nicely, so my dad figured it had to be someone's pet. My mom didn't want a dog, and figured he had an owner. My dad did notice a tag on the dog and it said, "Rectum" on it. My father figured it must be a medical condition with the dog. But he said for kicks, "C'mere Rectum" and the dog came over wagging his tail.
My father had a tough time convincing all of us and our neighbors that was the dog's name, but apparently it was. Who names a dog that? He was a real beauty too.

"Hey Steve, that cologne is you...."
"You'll get some leg tonight for sure...."
"Tell us how you do...."
"Oh come on Hugh, give him a break" 😉
@@charlesdalton985 "One break..... Comin' up!!"
More memories!!😊
I guess you gave us a Fair Warning!
@@DougE-ei4xs Well played sir 🫡
Hope your still recovering well! Looking forward to seeing your complete recovery!
If the van is rockin, don't come knockin!
I was working for KFC back in 1971 while in high school and we had a 1969 Super Van at the main store (there were 12 stores in the area). We used it for deliveries and to shuttle supplies from store to store. It had the 300 inline six and three on the tree and unloaded it had vicious wheel hop with one wheel peel.
Cool video, Steve
I remember wanting to see “Supervan” when it was out in theaters when I was a kid. Never did. Should check one of the streaming services. So this reminded me to look up the van online. Barris built it on a Dodge chassis.
Hmm, it is returning itself to the earth... Keep getting better Steve!
Just googled that cologne and it is available even still today!
I knew a working man who loved his Econoline.
I like how he says tricks of the trade, camera pans to a nasty stained mattress.... 😂😂😂
I drove one of these in 1977 when I was 17 years old for a kitchen company. A car cut me off and I was proud to avoid a collision until a few minutes later I smelled Formica glue. About 2 gallons had seeped onto the floor from a 5 gallon can that fell on its side and the top was partially knocked off.
In 2005, I bought a 1990, base model, long wheelbase,Econoline window van. It was the strangestly optioned vehicle that I had ever seen, but met my needs perfectly. It soldiered on for another eight years, blown head gasket, horrible radiator and all. Occasionally, it would even hit on all eight cylinders!!😮
Thanks for sharing this video with us
Had a family friend who
Had a 76 shorty no window econoline with aluminum slots, and a built 351w . It was metallic brown and had that cool hot rod rake
VANTASTIC INFORMATION!!
Steve,
Hope you doing well and are continuing to make gains with your health and be back in the junkyard soon.
Thank you for featuring the Ford vans, they were true workhorses for the tradesmen.
My wife and I had a third generation conversion van that worked well to haul our family and tow the travel and utility trailers we had at the time.
By the way did you have a date that night after putting on that vintage Avon after shave? If I remember correctly Wild Country was one of the more popular fragrances.
All the best!
I has a 93 E150 Econoline!!!! My grandmother bought it brand new!!!
dad had one with windows all the way around van. had side barn doors for passengers. nice project van thete.😊
1st 78f spring has sprung view
SuperVan was an option in 1970. My parents had E300 (2d Gen) Econoline SuperVan.
My dad had one of those, probably a first gen as the motor was back far enough that we kids could sit on the motor hood and our feet would touch the floor. The van had an inline 6 but I don’t know what displacement. The van matched the Econoline pickup he had for several years before he bought the van.
Boston has the Bruins, a tough bunch. Does your medical team have a nickname? They too are a tough bunch. Shout out to them for getting you to the recovery process. Well done.
Rust never sleeps!!
The High Output heater in a '73-'79 Ford Dentside pickup is a 1970 Mustang heater box and core, I believe.
I hope you are feeling better miss watching you during the Barrett Jackson auction this weekend so lame without your expert knowledge
My mom got me the superfan cologne and the skateboard necklace from Avon when I was a kid. That cologne lasted me all the way through highschool lol
Avon also made a perfume bottle that was shaped like a Harley Davison golf cart from the 70's.
Ford still makes the Econoline only in E350 and E450 cutaway chassis form. 2014 was the last year for a regular E series van. I have a 2021. Only one engine available with it is the new 7.3 gas Godzilla V8. Detuned in the Econoline to 300 and 350 horsepower options. Same basic cab and bones made since 1992.
He had to cut a lot of limbs off that tree. LOL
I was never a fan of vans, this video is excellent in showing the evolution of Ford vans👍.
Fun vans 👍✌️🤜👊🤛💪🚚
Thank you Steve
Nobody tells it like Steve !
Steve is on the prowel tonight
Oh I had that kit in 77-78 wagons ho 🤓❤️🇺🇲
Thank You, Steve. Be well.😎
Had a Ford E250 Chateau super van late seventies, had a 460 4V got ten miles to the gallon. Used it as a service van I was locksmith. Pain to work on not much room to change plugs etc.
Get healthy Steve!! Get back to 100% my brother! Great content (even if it is about the 11th time I've seen this particular one anyway)....lol
I had an e250 a t250 and a e350. The 350 was an extended. Had the 460 in it and it rode like a Cadillac
SuperVan PartyLand!
Thank you
Ride a few of these to school.
Gee, now you should do a Challenger and bring the whiskey decanter to show that! Will you open it?
Kattie the dog already loves you but take her to a nice dog park anyway. 😅
Super duper 🎉
Hope you grabbed that Mopar air cleaner and pie pan out of that van!
Grab that Mopar air cleaner
Steve, did you buy the Mopar air cleaner sitting in the newer van??
The Country Squire station wagon was NOT 22 Feet Long !
🖖
If that cologne is supposed to smell like a custom van I bet that smells like a combination of Marlboros, Old Milwaukee, High Karate, and shagg… carpet 😂
DanE!! Where are you??
Didn't make 5:00 come early enough! Was out replacing smoke detector and thermostat batteries, but now: PSSSHHHHHHHTT!🍺🍺
Looking forward to seeing Steve back out there. But watching this, I finally something Steve and I can argue about! Since it has a hood, it's a panel truck. Real vans don't have hoods. After the engine was moved forward the handling was ruined!
I wonder if Steve has any information on the Dodge “wide one” vans?
Hi karate 🎉might help 😂
👌🏼⛽️
The hot girls went after the guys that used Brut. Especially if they had the chain/ medallion hanging from their radio knob
I tried Brut in high school. It didn't work 😕 😢.
@@danielulz1640 I only bought it for the medallion. Lol.
Steve 61 Greebrier van!! You forgot about it being. Mini van!!so you didn’t mention these models!
I wish you could find us a ultruvan or centurion ford van, the van with a truck bed, to show us
👍🏻🇦🇺
Made in Lorain Ohio
The final generation of Econolines are still being manufactured today for cutaway vans such as UHaul uses and motorhomes....
Get well soon buddy maybe they will un cancel you 😅

The optional grill was anodized aluminum, not stainless steel. Steve knows way less that he thinks he knows. He makes up most of what he says pretending to know everything.
STEVE THE BARRETT JACKSON AUCTIONS ARE PAINFUL TO LISTEN TO, WITHOUT YOU DOING THE COMMENTARY...YOU STAND ALONE WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE.
I remember the Super Van model kit. Some ugly concepts back then.
Ford built the best vans they were full frames !!! GM and Chrysler were unibody junk !!
Its crazy that the 3rd generation is partially still in production today. You can't get a whole 'van', but FoMoCo still sells E-series cut-away\cab chassis for commercial use. The vans are alll Transit's nowadays 👌🏻👍🏻🤔🛠️🔧🔩
