Welcome to the One & Only Empire State Building! The World's Most FAMOUS Building as well as the World's Most Photographed Building! Completed in 1931, this building was not only the Tallest Building in New York City at opening, but it was the tallest in the WORLD and it remained that way for nearly 40 years after this buildings' construction and it was also the first ever building to surpass 100 stories! While it is no longer the tallest building in New York City, it is undoubtedly the most iconic building in the city, and no trip to New York is complete without a visit to this iconic, beautiful & historic & storied building!
The architecture of this building is breathtakingly beautiful, and the views from up top are absolutely incredible as well!
The building was recently renovated in 2019, and during the renovation, a museum exhibition area on the 2nd floor was added giving information about the buildings history, its construction & even the buildings elevator system!
As for the elevators, well, they've all being modernized & updated MULTIPLE times with the only exception being the 102nd floor elevator, which was still an original Manual up until 2019 when it got completely replaced. The most recent modernization done to the elevators was very nicely and tastefully done however, the Main High Rise Elevators were given Screens on the ceiling of the cabs showing the building being constructed as you go up, but yet the Historic Art Deco cabs were otherwise left as is. As for the 102nd floor elevator, yeah it was fully replaced with an Otis Compass strangely enough despite being a single elevator, but you can see inside the Spire going up which is pretty cool, and I was NOT expecting the light show and the music during the ride up that the elevator had which was pretty cool and interesting, albeit a little gimmicky. The best part though is the fact that while the Manually Controlled Elevator was replaced, it wasn't fully scrapped! The crank, motor, cab walls and controller were all relocated and put on display on the 2nd floor Museum area, and they're fully functioning while on display! While I would've loved to see the Manual Elevator stick around, if they had to replace it, this was the way to do it! The Main Elevators are definitely not the fastest NYC Skyscraper Elevators given that they only go 1200 FPM, but the GORGEOUS Cabs and show that plays on the ceiling more than make up for that, and Otis definitely did a FANTASTIC and High Quality modernization job here.
In this video, I explore and walk around all 3 Observatories within this building from the 80th floor, the 86th floor and the 102nd floor Observatory, all of which offer excellent views of the city but in totally different ways! From the architecture on the 80th floor, to the Outdoor Experience of the 86th floor to the tiny Capsule like space of the 102nd floor, each of these Observatories are very unique & iconic, and it's worth taking time in all of them to really appreciate both the view as well as the vibe of the space.
All in all, this building is DEFINITELY a MUST VISIT when visiting the City, although I will say this....it is very much a one and done experience as the ticket prices here are EXPENSIVE!!! $70 to go up to 86 and nearly $100 to get to 102......yeah that's pretty steep. But it is worth doing once for sure, you'll truly regret not going to this very iconic and special place that has been featured in so many photographs and movies alike!
And with that, I hope you guys enjoy my video of the WHOLE Empire State Building Experience in Midtown Manhattan, New York City! From the Museum Exhibits, to the Elevator Rides, to the Observatories & More!

I know this video hasn’t even played yet, Julien, and I also will respect your opinion based on reading the description, but the reason I still skipped out the Empire State Building is given the fact they totally ripped out the manually controlled elevator that goes to the 102nd floor, and I honestly have been wanting to see it in its original state for so long ever since I first saw a video of that particular elevator from back in 2006. After finding out in 2019 that it’s now officially gone, I just flat out skipped this place permanently. Yeah, I know they built the old vintage 1931 historic Otis elevator control system as a simulated museum piece of sample which is definitely great, but I’m still likely not going to see the Empire State Building at any point in time when I return to New York City in April because the nostalgia just kills me. Not sure if you also know, but I’ve also heard that the Top Of The Rock elevators at Rockefeller/General Electric Building have replaced their ceiling projector screens. So glad I got a much better view just in time last year before they are now gone.
And the manually controlled elevators in the Carew Tower in downtown Cincinnati have been modded like 60-70 years ago by Westinghouse and again in the 90s/2000s by a generic company; Schindler is modding them soon because that tower and the connecting Netherlands Plaza Hotel are getting converted into apartments. There is an elevator that goes from floors 45 to 48 to the observation deck (accessed by an additional stairway) at the top of the tower. The hotel elevators were manual as well and were modded long ago by Westinghouse, then by a generic company; Schindler might get their hands on those too. The Carew Tower had Adams fixtures and the Netherlands Plaza Hotel had Innovation; I think they retained their original cabs from the first mod. The elevator near the top of the tower is the only original cab in the whole building, but still it has gone through a couple of mods. The low rise ones go up to 21 and the high rise ones go up to 45; it’s half the height of this NYC building, but built at the same time. You haven’t even visited Cincinnati yet.
Thanks for the video. The construction workers look realistic. This will be on my wish list if I visit NY. Are you using the Sony Ax43 for the tour? I need a new cam for my next year's US tour.
