Thank you so much for this video, I just found it after a colleague had told me all these points, yesterday evening, telling me, do the maths, Deej, for a circle - 360/8 but thank you for the alignment tip. That advice was after I had spent about 8 hours using alt to shift a pattern around the circle, and then doing the transforming with control D with the help of a mouse. Very borrrring. But now, thanks to this video, I have knowledge stuck right inside my medulla oblongata , never to be forgotten again. What a nice way to spend a Sunday, learning your tutorials!
THANK YOU THANK YOU!! i am an architect and i like exact things, nobody gives this extra tip to separate evenly the objects around a center. Thanks a bunch!
Hi Helen...thank you posting this...really helpful. I have a question, if I wanted to have a shape touching itself all around the circle but decreasing in size as it does, how do I do this? I want to produce a design in an art nouveau style similar to Mucha and am a bit stuck!! Can you pls help!
Hi Helen. Cheers for the video. I am wanting to rotate numbers 1 to 100 around a 90mm circle with the baseline of the number always horizontal to the centre of thecircle. Is that possible?
Who is the one grump that actually gave a thumbs down to this? Jeez, I guess you can't please everyone, Helen. Anyway, I like the command click in the center of the circle. I've been dragging the center point from the object to be rotated into the circle which is a little less convenient. I haven't tried the blend option when I don't want the objects to be rotated themselves as they go around the circle. I will try that soon.
Morgan Field Ha! Thank you for your indignation on my behalf! I guess the video just didn't appeal to them which is fine! Glad to help with the keystroke to move the rotation point. I think you will find the other video with the blend very interesting. Making a blend is a really handy technique and then replacing its spine is another one, that video is jam packed with good things to know.
Helen your teaching is awesome. I've watched several videos and played to several designs to practice techniques, and I'm at a frustrating standstill. Tried to find answers on the net and I can't. I am trying to simply erase part of the design I've made and all of a sudden my erase tool won't erase. Instead it makes a circle or part of a circle. It's moving the anchor points. It's really weird. I took a screen shot, but I see no place where I can add a picture here. Help!
4WiseCreations Hi there, you can email a screenshot to me at helen (at) helenbradley.com. I'll have a look at it and see what I can come up with. But first of all, you should save your work and close Illustrator. Restart your computer and see if the problem persists. Sometimes, if a tool stops working correctly, that will fix it.
hey helen thanks for your useful tut i just want to ask how we do that if we dont a geometric shapes let say a random path for exp or "organic shapes" :) waiting your answer
This is a very complex question - 2 cm between what part of the shapes? If they are going around a circle, the distance will vary from the center out. I am not sure I can help unless you can explain what you want a little more clearly. Sorry.
i seen 4 videos to learn this..no audio..and another had but gesh...i would have to be a foreigner to understand what they said.. BUT ANYWAYS..BAM! I GOT THIS SHITE NOW.. BTW..THANK YOU.LIKE AND SUBED !

I am stuck on moving the first star on the circle. When I try, it moves it to the side, but moves its feet so that they are tilted off the circle. And I'm not able to duplicate more stars around the circle at all. Not sure what I did wrong.
Hi there. I just checked this process using the video steps in the most recent version of Illustrator for you and they work perfectly. I can only suggest that you go back and work through the video slowly, pausing at each step, and repeat the step in Illustrator. I think you'll find it works just fine.
Helen Bradley I just finished a t-shirt design incorporating this technique! I just made a straight vertical line and rotated it 360/100. It looked like a nice circular light ray! This is the image thrdl.es/~/4SYT its a threadless.com contest entry. That place is tough. Take care!
You saved me!! Its so hard to find someone who can actually teach in a simple manner! God Bless You!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am happy to hear that the tutorial was helpful for you. Thank you for checking out my channel.

When you need to make a dial you need to rotate lines around a shape and they need to turn as they go round. Here's how to do this in #Illustrator.
360/15
It is an awesome tip isn't it? I am glad you like it. Thank you for stopping by my channel.
