The Tang experiment is over but sadly Kstate men's basketball fans will have to endure two more seasons at least of sub par basketball before they move on in a different direction.
Coach says “If playing this series against Wichita State doesn’t help our program, I dont see a reason to keep playing them!” Translation- “We can’t beat them, so let’s not schedule them anymore!”
Time to make some coaching or staff adjustments. Heaven knows there is talent on this team. It's up to the coaching staff to put the best players on the floor. So disappointing. 😢
Without a doubt, this coaching staff is lost and as a result, so are the players. Tang was certainly defensive when asked why the opponents coaching staff made better halftime adjustments twice in the most recent games....Tang's reply..... because it has been two games. That says all you need to know about why this team is under performing. The coaching staff needs to provide structured direction. Here are my suggestions: Players do not play unless they play with energy , effort and enthusiasm on defense. That includes rebounding. As a team, you always control effort and that is on display in regards to how you play defensively. On offense, the ball should be pushed for early offense and if the early offense is not there, pull the ball and run your sets. Play smart basketball and go to your mismatches. Coleman Hawkins has an advantage in every game whether he is on the perimeter or on the block. I don't believe he has been tasked with exploiting the advantage he has. He plays too passively, he over passes and just doesn't play confidently. There is no excuse for him not be scoring at least 10 pts/game and 7 rebounds. He is underperforming and he and the coaching staff know it. That trickles down to everyone else on the team. Tang, Hawkins and the rest of the coaching staff are too focused on how this team is perceived, making promises and listening to the outside noise instead of focusing on truly making the team better. The team doesn't believe it can win. In order to win you have to do the following....1)Believe you can Win 2)Desire to Win 3)Prepare to Win 4)Compete to Win 5) Learn to Win...this is called the Continuum of Winning. Unfortunately, this team is at Step 1. There is no belief. It's starts with the coaching and trickles down to the players. Underperformance will be the indictment on this team and only time will tell if the Team can overcome itself.
I’ve been saying it since the NIT loss to Iowa last year. Play Buddy Rich. Invest in the talent that wants to stay and develop, and has shown that it’s deserved. He’s so much fun to watch.. and if he transfers after this year we are back to ZERO of Tang’s recruits staying. Maybe it took him being the only viable player on the court for him to see that.. I’m losing hope in Tang on these black and white decisions.
Jerome…How long will you let this terrible experiment of the 5 out offense ruin your season and our future? No one can ever shoot good enough to make this silly offensive plan successful. How can Dig average 20 in the Big 10 and not get 5 minutes and no points?? Admit this plan is no plan. Thanks!!
He not a nice guy. He's a me-first guy that always makes things about him. Case in point, he said after this game he'll have a Christmas while the other team will have a merry Christmas. That's nonsense, narcistic talk. It's like he thinks about lines like this, or bible verses, more than game plans or motivating the team to play together.
@ I thought that comment was interesting but just silly. As for the Bible verses you mention, I’m a Christian, so I like and appreciate the references to faith. Regardless, I think he still has a leash but that leash is getting shorter and shorter. I believe that every coach needs at least four years. Maybe more…it’s definitely getting harder and harder to watch this team.
@@cbr_9295 four years is not necessary when from year 1 to year 3 talent has gotten better each year but results have drastically trended downward. And us non-Christians don’t value Bible versus over results. He might have to look for a career change to pastor here soon.
GPC removing comments about not being Christian is the most Christian move ever. We aren’t all in love with his biblical sense when it doesn’t lead to respecting and growing young men. Just turning them over and over. Be better GPC, if others can comment about being Christian then it’s okay to comment that not everyone is, without saying anything offensive.
Same. And I agree with Coach about consistency. Part of that consistency also relates to the roster. It's so hard to maintain consistency in this new environment where the roster turns over every season due to pay-for-play NIL and an unlimited transfer portal. I hope Coach can convince guys like Buddy, David, Mobi, Taj, Brendan, Ugo, and Baye to come back next season instead of starting again from scratch.
At the 2:37 mark, Tang talks about the WSU defense being good because KSU shot 36% from the free throw line. Free throws have nothing to do with defense, unless you are counting the crowd noise as defense. This guy might not be all there.
I might be wrong but they will be lucky to win 5 conference games with the offense they run. I have watched pick up games at the gym with better offense being run. Way too much standing around on this 5 out offense.
Biggest takeaway here is what he said about Castillo. I really hope this staff is self aware enough to realize what they’ve tried to do these last two seasons isn’t working and it’s time to actually build a program
and the common refrain last year when you questioned Tang was "oh yeah why don't you send your resume in and apply for the job?" a common dumb answer from people who had no critical thinking skills or cannot see basketball in it's pure form. heck, they may still be around... this is really bad basketball and we are stuck with it for a bit, but are we? we spent 5 million bucks on a 13th or 14th place team what is the tradeoff between buyout and NIL money? season is over except for the embarrassing losses coming up in conference. keep losing and that NIL money will vaporize boys and girls.
KSU Alum ( 1976 ) Was this game televised ? Anybody watch it ? Anybody attend it ? What's your takeaway ? I live in Florida, so neither watch, nor attend. No clue how we looked.
I watched it. Having graduated from WSU, but being a lifelong KSU fan, this should’ve been an easy win. My question is why does a 6’10” Hawkins who can’t seem to make a single shot outside of the paint, why is he not hanging out under the basket to put in an easy 2? One thing we didn’t have last year was a guy who could hangout under the basket. I don’t care what his position is, he can’t play, so put him where he’s needed.
How bout them Lady Cats!!!!!
Not sure how all these smaller schools can put a better TEAM on the floor week after week.
I’m just here to see what excuse Jerome has… you think he’ll blame the fans for his 6-5 start again? Put up or shut up time Jerome
Tang acts like a coach who knew two months ago this team didn’t have “it”
Should have let coach leave for Arkansas. Now we're stuck with his contract.
The basketball version of Ron Prince
I just moved here once Ron got fired and I head about this Ron guy. So how long do we let this dude stay. Who do we hiring after he should be fired

Stick a fork in this team.....it's done. I hate to say that but if I am wrong then they need to prove it and I don't see that happening.
Coach says “If playing this series against Wichita State doesn’t help our program, I dont see a reason to keep playing them!” Translation- “We can’t beat them, so let’s not schedule them anymore!”
I can't wait to see how the Gopowercat staff tries and put the positive spin on this 🤣
They will
In what world has GPC been nothing but sunshine pumping? Apparently you don’t listen to Fitz’s walk and talks……
Why does Jerome Tang avoid Mason Voth's questions?
Time to make some coaching or staff adjustments. Heaven knows there is talent on this team. It's up to the coaching staff to put the best players on the floor. So disappointing. 😢
Buddy Rich and David Ngessaun are the best two players on this team. Something in common there? ………

I can’t imagine what these guys do at practice, but it ain’t basketball. The power of friendship won’t win basketball games….

Just need to be good for two halves.

Sad. I like Jerome. But he's not tough enough as a head coach. No more excuses!
Jerome is a nice guy and all but I’m starting to think he’s just a bit way over his head at KSU…
