  • 'What we want is more learning in schools and less activism in schools', prime minister Scott Morrison yells after being asked a question about school students participating in a climate change strike. Greens MP Adam Bandt asked if the PM would 'listen to these kids, who are demanding your government to keep coal in the ground?' Morrison's response was that they should stay in school and leave politics to those 'outside of school'

    In this video from Parliament, Scott Morrison essentially denies the essence of democracy.
    A parliament is only part of the process. A democratic government is there to serve at the will of the people. It is a civic duty of the people to express their will to the government, especially on important issues. Voting for representatives is only a very small part of that conversation between people and governments.
    School students learn civics as part of their curriculum. The protest was an excellent example of a practical class in civics and a real conversation with government.
    The government just wants everyone to shut up about it.

    Yes, the kids and their teachers should go to school. If they feel they should actively do something then they should do it. A few suggestions would be to walk to and home from school, take the bus or train instead of mummy's or daddy's car, hang up the mobile phone, take up gardening, make their own lunches, turn off the lights, stop wasting water, put litter in the bins. Other suggestions would include to critically analyse what the climate alarmists and the climate catastrophicians are saying and listen to the other side for once. Stay away from unreliable renewable energy unless you want to live with power outages and freezing winters. Of course, in Australia, you might not know much about how cold it can be in winter. Try living above 44 degrees north in America or Canada, and above 53 degrees North in the British Isles. Then see how unreliable renewable energy is. You want to live? Then breathe. That's co2 you're exhaling.

      You case then...lol.... is Tax funded schools can skip classes to protest.....
      As a Tax payer I would instruct teachers to cease and desist.
      Protest on there own time and hopefully with some facts.

    • @jamesbarber2307
      @jamesbarber2307 5 років тому +1

      Bop-ya Good and why would we do that? we would not have gotten the attention and reaction that we got if we didn't do it on your money and schools time. When a nations children begin to act in this way you know the leaders screwed up somewhere. I don't presume to have the answer to global warming. But fossil fuels are limited and renewable energy is a lucrative industry and so at the least I can boost the future economy. My teachers told us not to protest anyways. This was a student organised event. I'm not here to argue about climate change but on how student voices are being brushed off and muted by the government.

    Scott, people are sick and tired of mediocrity. Please raise the bar. Every sentence you uttered was plain and simple and therein lies the problem- it was just plain and simple. Any 7th grader in a debating team could utter verbatim what you said. Please also don't deny that your rhetoric was very basic in it's logic. Let's also agree that any 12yo would be able to point out the merits of kids staying in school like you did. Stating the obvious needs to become a MEME as we are all guilty of it and we all need to be reminded of it. You may not realise this, but stating the obvious is why people don't take politicians seriously and hence why kids are taking days off school to protest. You swept the topic under the carpet. If you used your brain and came up with some novel ideas to fix climate change, I might not have viewed you like that of a 12yo.
