I have bought myself one of those money tins that you can’t see through from Poundland. I put my shopping change into it every week and open it at the end of the year. It’s amazing how much I save. We are talking hundreds. One month I put £200 into it because I did a pantry and freezer challenge.

penny pinching is good; you are right; there is more to life than food, but living in France our money does mainly go on food; we have a really good charity shop near us, and having a friend working there really helps; thanks for your tips

Yes, shopping at different stores is a great idea and what helped me. I ended up putting together a Google spreadsheet of all the grocery items I regularly buy with price comparisons of every store in my town (plus some online sources for buying in bulk). I'm in the US, so I regularly shop at Walmart, Aldi, and Azure Standard, depending on what item it is. And if I'm at the store and see a sale going on, I compare it to my spreadsheet. I have a deep freezer, so I utilize that whenever possible. It has saved me tons of money! I also changed up our food habits a little bit and am trying to cook more simple, down-home filling meals. Also, that floral purse was 😍!!!

Here's my best tip, I'm frugal and have learned alot about money management, you are not going to like it much and will be painful but do not take your debit card out with you when you go out and about, if its on you, you will be tempted to spend, so much of fritting money I believe is the convience and ease of using a plastic card, if you drive then allocate an amount and keep it in the car so that you don't run out of petrol, debit cards are a painless way of spending we don't actually see the act of giving over money for services, I honestly believe that's why there is so much debt and overspending everyone pays on their phones too, that small drip drip leads to bigger problems down the line get out of the habit of habitual spending and your life and finances will be so much the better for it, try it for month and see how much you can save. Xx

Can you please do a video about being a carer whilst working. I am a carer to my Mum and struggle with getting healthy meals for her etc.

Hi Liz, not sure if this will help at all but there are a few videos on UA-cam of meal prepping and dump and go bags for slow cookers and pressure cookers.
I use my slow cooker a lot, especially whilst the weather is horrible, left overs get bagged up and go into the freezer once cooled down.
I make enough to cover roughly 4 servings from the left overs, it comes in very handy for days when I can’t move around a lot.
I also use meal prep containers with have different sections, so on really bad days I just get it out the freezer and warm it up in the microwave. When I’m not physically strong enough to do anything else it’s a life saver.
I make tasty things like chicken in red wine sauce with green bean or mixed veg and mash. Xx

Love the tips Kay! 😊 I'm definitely gonna start writing down the things I'm thinking of buying. Some nights at about 9:30pm a small demon takes over my brain and makes me want to buy stuff online 😂 so I shall give the demon what it wants by writing down the thing instead of buying it then and there, and then I can decide later on haha. This year I want to start a savings account for medical things (eye test, dentist, perscriptions etc) cause I think that would be nice safety blanket to have for those sudden-and often large- bills. And I'm definitely going to try to be more mindful in general with my purchases 👍

Always pay yourself first - when you get your wage take whatever you can afford e.g. $100 or £100 and save it into another account and forget about it, it’ll soon grow over a 12 month period, then at the end of 12 months put that money into an RRSP if you live in Canada or whatever the equivalent is in your Country, you’ve earned that money so PAY YOURSELF FIRST 👍🏻👍🏻. Please note : I am not a financial expert or advisor its just something that was advised to me years ago 😊.

I started doing that a few years ago and it is so helpful! I started with 50$ per pay and I increased the amount a few times already. I got my bf on board last year he was not a saver at all but now he has some savings! And we don’t feel it is missing in our day to day.

It’s annoying and time consuming but we have been shopping at multiple supermarkets lately. For us it’s a mix of Asda, Iceland, B&M and Lidl. For example beans are cheap at B&M, bread and cupboard staples at Asda, Iceland for ready meals and pizza then veg at Lidl. We try to get the free delivery options for Iceland and Asda so we don’t waste petrol driving around and we walk to our local B&M. We do food shopping as our Saturday adventure and entertainment. We buy a lot of reduced and on offer food so we meal plan afterwards and everything gets eaten 😊

A trigger for me and buying is when I am stressed. I tend to spend more which is not good mainly on bad food which does not help when trying to eat good. First timer from Australia

This video is lovely Kay and very helpful. Thank you.
I wanted to save money quickly in 2021 and pay off student debt.
Like you said setting goals are important and keeping a record to see if you are on target is essential.
I also looked at all of my expenses to see what I could cut down on or cut out completely.
I closed down my Netflix and a couple of other subscriptions which totalled around £300 per year. Which I don’t actually miss at all. 😊
I meal plan, looking in my cupboards and freezer before going to the shops. I call it kitchen shopping, most of the time I can still make meals without going to the shops.
I also bulk buy certain items such as cat food, toilet roll, bigger packs of snacks, meat etc, mainly because I have MS and I’ve been caught out a few times running low or running out of things and unable to get to the shop or get a delivery.
I make my own version of takeaways to keep costs down, and budget spending money for date nights and days out with friends/family because let’s be honest we still need to have fun, and I found that I was more likely to fall off the wagon early in my journey if I didn’t give myself some play money xx

Great ideas Kay 👌 I just had a conversation with my daughter about 'sales'. We both work in retail and know how much of a huge mark up is put on goods. She wanted to buy an item because it was a great price but she didn't really need it. I said that at that price the store was still making a substantial profit so even though the price was reduced she wasn't really getting a 'bargain' but just getting the item at a more realistic price. It made her change her mind. Sales can tempting but if we remind ourselves that the sale price is 'just a reasonable price ' it soons changes our perspective imo 🤑😉

So much good, solid advice in such a short video; wonderful, Kay!💲 My husband and I have been using a cash envelope system for years. It is the best way to budget, as when the envelope gets empty, you simply quit spending! This new year one of my goals was to start using a money tracker journal. Amazon has some great ones! When I physically write down what and how much to buy, it holds me so much more accountable.

Food waste is a real bug bear for us, we grow a lot of our own food now then we clean and process it and freeze it for hear round use. Writing a menu really helps to focus what we have and where we need to spend. I buy seeds and bulbs when I see them in the sale which makes it even cheaper. I also share produce with family and friends which works as we can all grow different things

Hi Kay a little tip I did for one whole year was, everytime i time picked up something, ie a mug ( haha my fav too ) I would ask myself have I ENOUGH, and if the answer was yes, then i would put the mug back, I would walked away quite content because I had ENOUGH, it honestly was a game changer for me, I still do this often and it has saved me buying silly impulse buys. and using up what I have in the fridge, I do not need 4 different relishes etc, afterall I can only put one on my sandwich at a time, I am trying to use up all I have before buying a different one, sadly it was once too easy just to throw things away. very wasteful. xxxx

Best tip always take food and drink out with you to avoid spontaneous spending on bottles of pop or water or snacks. We've started taking picnics on our days out and it's such a good feeling to know we've not had to spend £20.00 to get lunch. And it's cute too. Flask is my best item ❤
