I always remembered DULLARD because it actually was a word and you could enable the blood from that menu. I didn't even know there was a second code, I thought DULLARD was the only one.
Fun fact: In the Mega CD port of Mortal Kombat in that hidden cheat option menu, there is a toggle that changes all the MK character names into names from the TV show Dad's Army. Yes, really.
Strange I knew of the DULLARD code long before the
ABACABB code. Yet ABACABB was everywhere.
I have gone through my entire life to this point thinking dogs can talk and I really appreciate you setting me straight. I also went my entire life without knowing about the cheat menu, that is amazing!
A British UA-camr calling it a mega drive... You deserve some sort of formal recognition 😀👍
Yep for the rest of the world is named the sega mega drive. But for US. Is genesis
Sure can't wait for your 'How to play as Goro' on MK1 video :')
Dude.... I absolutely loved the idea of reptile. Finally got the fight him using the codes for Sega Genesis.
Then some kid tells me that if you get a double Flawless fatality on reptile you can play as him. Doesn't work.
I go to school and tell him about it and it comes up that I used the codes to fight him, tells me no codes. At this point I have fought him so many times I have his A.I. down pat.
I remember it taking me a couple of weeks before I went back to school and told him again that I did it and it didn't work.... he tells me... "gotta do it with Sonya". I swear I almost ripped his heart out of his chest.
I could never remember my locker combination back in the day but I ALWAYS remembered (and still do) the blood and DULLARD codes. They still randomly pop in my head even being close to 40.
I just realised that this is probably a reference to the song/album right? Abacab. By GENESIS! Doh!
@@Bransfiiiield Ah, when it occurred to me, I assumed that it was something everyone knew about and I'd been thick for not noticing.
It can't be a coincidence, right?
How can I do the dullard code correctly? I keep doing what I need to do to unlock it but I don’t see any cheat options
Funnily enough, having a blood code was apparently Sega's idea, that way they could have a censored version for younger players while older ones who knew this code could gain the full uncensored experience. In short, it was meant to give the grown-ups more agency, but the execution ironically wound up accidentally stripping them of all of that agency instead.
I had been given a track to collab on the other day. so my verse starts off with "The Code is ABACABB".
Does anyone know any mk1 snes game genie codes? Or. Codes?
I had it on the Master System, so 2, 1, 2, down, up will forever be etched on my brain...
The blood code was a pain in the ass to do I would rarely be able to do it. The Dullard code was better because it was easier to do plus the blood could be added when you got to the main menu. When I had MK1 for Sega Genesis I did this code all the time. I heard about the code from one of my cousins.
I have, and always will be, DULLARD.
Interesting. Never heard of DULLARD. Only abacabb. Now I have an MK arcade cabinet, so I don't need the codes; although I always dreamed of owning an MK arcade machine as a kid, I was glad I had a Genesis, so at least, I could do the blood code.
TL;DR DULLARD at the game start/options screen
I'll never forget down, up, left, left, A, right, down...I never knew the other code or dullard
Take a second and think about it - if you knew Down Up Left Left A Right Down, did you 'not' know DULLARD?
I remember that other cheat code
i knew about this for hmmm 28 years... i was reading the same gaming mags as everybody else. didn't we all know this?
Yeah... there’s Duke and Invisible Touch and You Can’t Dance, etc.
CRALAUCRALAU
Top dogger 2020!😂
It wasn’t a cheat. It was a speak easy
Knew about this when Mean Machine Magazine showed both cheat codes. Loved that magazine. Oh, I chose not to purchase the game back in the days because I felt it wasn't close enough to the arcade. MK2 though did a much better job.
Sega genesis mortal kombat was the new cool in the 90s
Funny enough, I'd only ever heard of (and played using) the dullard code when I was younger, only finding out about abacabb in the last few years. Guessed maybe it was regional; abacabb in the US & dullard here in the UK, because literally no one ever mentioned it. Turns out people just wanted blood & nothing deeper. Shame really, they missed out.
As a brit I don't think it was regional. I used both codes back in the day, but if MK gets mentioned when I'm speaking to people I'm still in touch with from back then, someone will say "ABACABB". Both codes were printed in mags and cheat books.
THANK YOU for being honest about WHY it should be called the "Genisis" and not the "Maga-ass". Thumbs up.
Was the only code I knew.
Classic
I knew about both codes
ACAB is my favorite cheat code.
I was a SNES peasant. I never understood why MK was so unfun to play until gaming analysis videos on YT began to crop up: it had monstrous input delay on top of the censorship.
Thankfully MK2 exists
The blood code is better much simpler and not Xtra cheezy. Dullard is just too much.
ACAB is the more culturally significant code these days tho
Did the code also work on the Mega CD version too? Love that version purely for the Dad's Army cheat code that confuses American cheat websites :D
It did, at least according to my Important Scientifical Testing while recording this vid. Probably should have mentioned it.
Wait, Dad's Army cheat code?! Why was I oblivious to this?
You can turn the blood off in the Sega CD version (it's always turned in now) using Dullard menu. Also, all the FLAG codes are actually labeled on Sega CD.
