Wow Bob that's awesome!!!!
"Let me just shut up and let the car speak for itself" hahhaha loved it I enjoyed it thanks for showing me a vehicle I wouldn't ever see like that sports 🚗🔥
I've got a 1972 TR6 as well. Mine was hopped up by Jay Leno's head mechanic Bernard Juchli (then in Los Gatos, CA) before he worked for Jay. Custom cam - higher lift and more duration, bored .40 over, magna-fluxed the block, high compression cylinders, triple Webers, 6 into 1 header into a splitter for Monza quad tipped dual exhaust, sport springs, bigger rear sway bar, PPG paint and car has over drive from factory. Basically everything you could do in 1972 with enough money was done. Original steel wheels painted body color with Stainless trim rings in place. New seats, carpet, teak dash... healthy car. Just needs a younger owner. Saffron yellow (?) over black. Awesome car, I'd drive it across America it is so reliable. These old TRs were based on tractors and they just run.
Wow! Sounds like you had the most tricked out TR6 on the planet. Some of those mods I may do on this one. You are correct, they are pretty much bullet proof machines.
Man, you have a great collection, the best the 1970's could give you, a Porsche 911 and a TR6, that's amazing!
There were so many great cars back then. Thanks for watching, I'll be posting more.
This one is an earlier 1972 production as noted by the absence of Leyland fender badges. You should add a front spoiler / air dam. I also recommend upgrading to SU HS6 carbs because they stay adjusted longer, and are easier to tune than the Strombergs when necessary. I also Jet Hot coated my TR6 header. Learned that trick from my Jeep 4.0. The Jet Hot coating is unbelievable there is almost no radiated heat from the exhaust system when it is added. The Monza exhaust is okay, but I think that the exhaust exiting on both side causes fumes to blow up into the passenger area. Notice you are using poly bushings on the suspension. This a great idea as the are less prone to rotting out the the original rubber ones. Looking very good.
Great suggestions and observations. I put the Jet Hot on this and on my Europa, what a great product. Thank you for you comment.
My college roommate had one of these when it was new. My Mustang was faster but this was as fun as a car can be especially on a country road. 😊 Also, I was 6'0" and was perfectly comfortable in it. (Of couse back then I weighed maybe 140 lbs and was 18 years old but still...)
I had a 65 Mustang back in the day. It was great, but I've loved British cars ever since I has my first one. Thanks for subscribing, I'll be making more.
love your car xcept for the factory stripes which i never seen before....well done... my same car for around 40 years...min is white :) your right it is a man car..ameaicans call them muscle cars.
You have done a lovely job on it...well done for keeping it standard.
I never saw a TR6 with stripes before, but in a book it shows that they are indeed factory. Thank you. Please subscribe, I'll be making more videos.
The stripe graphic was a Triumph design. I believe they were created for the US Market and didn’t appear on the home market card. You say there is a photo of a car in the factory with this graphic? I’m not sure I have seen that one. I was under the impression is that it was a dealer applied option. The stripe kit is still made by the
Original manufacturer 3M. They also make the correct textured finish for the rocker panels, 3M Shutz.
@@jaman878 Yeah, I have a TR6 book that has a b&w photo showing the stripe. Oddly enough there is a yellow TR6 in my town that also has the stripe.
My granddad had one of those for 30 years. I never saw it move 😅
I am making sure that my grandchildren get to see all my cars drive. Thank you for watching.
You have a real nice six there , you have addressed what needed to be done to make it safe and reliable. I had an early 74 mallard blue with O.D. and tan interior for 6 years i enjoyed every minute of owning it. Stay safe spring is in the air ! BTW how do you like the quick jack set up ?
Can't wait for spring so I can get out and drive it. Good catch on the Quick Jack. I bought it and soon realized that it was ok for things like tire changes, but not for doing work on the cars. Not high enough and in the way. Check out my video on what I did that really works well. ua-cam.com/video/RqVeWTujzFE/v-deo.htmlsi=jaKRrQJMGvTo8rZX Please subscribe and check out my other videos. Thank you for your comments and I hope you have a fun car now to drive.
I had a UK 72 one. If that is the US one I guess it has carburettors. Less power but much more reliable. I used to carry two spare injectors and every week I had to retune the Lucas mechanical fuel system using a special spark plug with a transparent glass window to see the colour of the flame in the combustion chamber. It is easy to modify the overdrive to use it on all forward gears, lots of fun... Less fun is the crappy half-circle crank endfloat washer, and regrinding the main and bigend bearings when the crank fails, as it inevitably does, being too long and too slender. I do not like the look of the wheels on this. Mine had wires.
Ahhh the Gundsun ColorTune. I actually have 3 of them so I can tune my E Type Jag. Yes the Strombergs are more reliable than the Lucas petrol injection. My TR6 does not have the overdrive, so I have to be content with 4th gear.
In the springtime I will do a video all about carburetor tuning including using the color tune. I also have a Unisyn and another flow gauge for synchronizing the carbs.
Thanks for watching and please do subscribe. I am having fun making videos, so there will be more.
Definitely try to get hold of an overdrive for it, because it transforms the car, radically improving 0-60 time. @@lotusbobsgarage
In the mid thru late 70's, I owned LHP 293F, CP6, the 6th TR5, one of the UK press cars. I never had a moment's problem with the metering unit, or injectors.
@@andrewpreston4127 I have no experience with the petrol injection. Go for you with yours
Designed by the Germans..built by British leyland....great driver?? Get a Italian car ..corners in the u.s.a. ha ha ....
You gotta drive what you love. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe, I'll be posting more videos
@@lotusbobsgarage very well said ....please do not try Lancia or Alpha .... you will graduate to a higher love ......Steve winwood album there😏😊... please be carefull with the classic car enviroment , especially when you get ...and we are doing you a favour sir ,at that part and price .......good luck ...I understand completely....
I learned how to drive manual on one of these. Same color, no roll bar. My roommate bought one for the princely sum of $1500 in 1984. I wish I could drive this cool car now as a seasoned adult driver. I was thinking the same that it's a very masculine vehicle overall and the large tires slung low. Your legs are alongside the engine! Gets kinda warm. Cool British and Italian cars were to be had in those days, but they were not made well. Memories
Glad to hear your story. You know you can get a pretty well sorted out TR6 today and relive your memories.
