I must have looked at 20 videos trying to find how to move the tensioner. Many of them were of professional quality but just skimmed over the tensioner, many were shot with a shaking phone while the instructions were mumbled. I watched your video and if it wasn't getting dark I'd be out there finishing the job. Thanks much!
Remove the tensioner from the mount. Lay it on a flat surface facing up. Pour just about an ounce of light oil . Let it sit for about ten minute s and then spray some liquid wrench around the seam where the spring is. Re-mount and then reapply your tension on the belt. Worked for me!
the tensioner was something that threw me thanks for the video. my mechanic wants 400.00 to put a new alternator. 85.00 for altenator 35.00 for a new belt. I,m saving 315.00. thanks again.
You do not need to remove any "water pulley studs" to replace a fan belt! Simply feed it in between the balancer and water pump as per diagram. It goes on without any fan removal.
If the sticker is still on the radiator support towards the front of the vehicle, you can find it there. Or there sites and pictures on the interweb that can tell you how to route the belt. Or even your owner's manual, maybe.
I noticed that your truck has the same "bulb test" wiring flaw as many older GM cars from the 80s. When you crank the starter, instead of testing the overheat idiot light, it pegs the temperature gauge instead. I had no idea vehicles as late as 1994 still had that bug. On some cars it causes the needle to become inaccurate (because it gets torqued every time it hits the stop) and in some cases it falls off. Yours seems to move slowly though, so maybe it has some dampening to prevent that.
I think your belt is on wrong.. I have the same truck and yours, the way its routed around the PS pump looks strange.... Its a straight run from the PS pump to the alternator.
Thank you so much your video saved our vehicle and jobs showing ya how to do this thank you! Your truck with the wrenches came in handy to! Thank you again!!!
good job ya did i had to do this on my truck 3 times its a 93 chevy first time the idler pulley busted put it back together and the belt came off and busted my water pump broke the studs etc new belt was 17 bucks but water pump was 29 bucks mines a 4.3 looks like that one has a 4.3 as well chevys for life
I thought so! Just looken out! I bought the SAME belt for my 305 truck. $40 is crazy I paid about that much. I think it was $36 w/ my discount! The price of belts and hoses went crazy over the last few years.. like everything else
Ouch....yeah Napa does charge a lot.thats why I'm glad I live in a Large city (St.Louis) because we have Napa,O'Reiley Auto Parts, advanced auto parts, and Auto Zone here.Alot to choose from.
No I didn't. I thought it was right. I never damaged anything by routing the belt wrong. Another viewer pointed it out to me and I went out and corrected it right away.
My alternator quit a week or two ago. This is how bad my serpentine belt was: it broke when I went to take it off! I was lucky though, my belt only cost $16. The alternator was $130 though. Ouch.
I could of gotten it cheaper if I would of shopped around. But I needed the truck operational in a hour, so I bought it at Napa and paid through the nose.
Sometimes that's the price you have to pay. Good luck with it. And those Chevy trucks are tough as nails. I have a friend that has 260,000 on her GMC 1500.
i have a different belt tensioner. it uses an 18mm on the top and a 15mm on the bottom pulley. i cant get the belt off and there are no videos on YT with my setup....i have an 89 C1500 with a 5.7. the belt tensioner needs to be replaced cause it makes a very annoying screeching sound when i drive and idle.
What is up with the noise from the motor? Sounds loud like some chugging metallic noise and my 1994 4.3 sounds the same. Is it an accessory belt driven noise or a pulley?
No the serpentine belt doesn't affect the brakes on your Surburban. Some things you will want to look at is your master cylinder, see how much brake fliud you have in it. If it's low go buy some DOT 3 Brake fliud. If the master cylinder is full something else is wrong and you should see a professional mechanic.
I've never changed a serpentine belt before... I just did it in about 5 minutes after watching your video. Thanks!

Good & to the point!!!! Best thing about this vid is it shows you operating the tensioner
God bless your soul. Saved a poor college student here.

He said they came loose after the came off the day before

I just used this video to replace my belt, thanks!
This video remind me "I Dream of Jeannie" 60s TV serie... 06-21-2024

Glad my video was help to you.
Damn, you had a bout of bad luck with that truck! Glad to hear you got it back together.
You might've wanted to included the routing of the belt itself

Will it work with a 93 Silverado 1500 383 vortec ....cause in Australia our chevy motors spin the other way.

does the sepentine belt effect the brakes i think thats the problem with my 93 chevy suburban thanks
Thank you that really helps
Did replacing it make it any quieter?
Yes thank you
Good dependable rock solid Chevrolet.
This video was uploaded on my birthday haha.
You're right, I'm wrong. Maybe one day when it isn't so damn cold outside I'll change it. Still works like it should, however.
I could of gotten it cheaper if I would of shopped around. But I needed the truck operational in a hour, so I bought it at Napa and paid through the nose.

what is the right way for the belt to go on ? where can i find diagrams??

Is your volt gauge right if so what kind of alternator are you running I need the same one
My alternator gauge does that as well!
No it did not. What is bad is AC pulley. That is what makes the whining noise my subscribers so often hear from my truck
What is up with the noise from the motor? Sounds loud like some chugging metallic noise and my 1994 4.3 sounds the same. Is it an accessory belt driven noise or a pulley?
When this video was shot and uploaded, the truck had a failing pulley drive on the A/C compressor.
@@thekeykeeper2009 Are you saying a failing AC compressor or AC clutch on the compressor?
@@redphantome737 Both.
Thats the tension pulley not the idler

I got the same CB in my truck also.
Thanks!
