I've been meaning to do this experiment for about 2 years. I found some hair on the train, and now with this video I have the how-to. I like this show.

Because I was confused, I looked (googled) it up.
Hydro- is the prefix meaning “water.”
Hygro- is the prefix meaning “wet” or “moist”

Try it on your moist friends!

Probably not the one with a prayer-closet, though her hair was blond and long.

Pine cones work as well. They open in drier weather and close when it's wet. They are not as elegant, and hair actually was the state of the art technique for hygrometers in the past. (if I'm not mistaken)

Very interesting!! I wonder if this would work using extensions made with real human hair?

Is it possible to zero-out the scale? Should i tie it when it's like 50% humidity?

wait, you "borrowed" human hair? now I'm really curious to see what happened after you returned them back to the owner 😂

  • @royksk

Presumably those two hairs will be returned to Kerry after this as you only “borrowed “ them 🤪

  • @SaturnCanuck

That was pretty cool. But Deane I don't think you borrowed the hair, ad you never gave it back. LOL.

Easier: if the luscious moustache curls is humid day.if he wears Rob knitted sweater is cold.if Deane wears one of his Miami Vice shirts is hot summer day

I have often wondered why they wear sweaters. Australia is a hot place? Surely the studio would be hot, yes? I like the style though.

It's pretty cool tbh. It's cool info that could have just been lost and never seen again like so many shows in the past. Not only that though, but this youtube channel is maintained by some of the people that worked in and on this classic show!

@@Ironpants57 The two dudes in this show (Rob and Deane) bought the rights to all the surviving Curiosity Show footage, and have been uploading segments to UA-cam ever since. Most of the surviving footage is from the 80s and early 90s.

Thanks. Curiosity Show was a national science program featuring Dr Rob Morrison and Dr Deane Hutton. It was made in Adelaide, South Australia and screened nationally in Australia as well as in Europe, Asia and Australasia (14 countries and dubbed in German for Europe) from 1972-1990. Deane and Rob intentionally used everyday items around the house (like old rusty cans) so that people could repeat the demonstrations with materials they had to hand. In 1984 Curiosity Show won the Prix Jeunesse International, the world's top award for TV programs for young people. Rob and Deane are steadily uploading segments at ua-cam.com/users/curiosityshow Why not subscribe?
