Could you have put the cage nuts facing in so you are screwing from the inside out and the ears of the server can sit flush with the outside of the vertical mounts? In pics I’ve seen on Amazon it seems that’s how these extenders are suppose to be setup.
Years ago, I had purchased a 7 foot tall server rack for rack gear. This may be similarly spaced. I would call a Guitar Center to ask what spacing you will need 1st. Last I knew, it was 18 5/16″ (18.312″ or 465.1 mm) or roughly 19" between holes/ slots.

server racks are generally universally uniform which is why this video is good for IT, cant say for music
