I always knew owning a house would be awesome as it's mine to do with what I want but I didn't count on how much better it would make me feel in general. I'm just much happier, I go outside and all I and hear are birds singing and smell fresh air, I can leave my car wing mirrors folded out and not worry that someone has kicked them off in the middle of the night...or worse still poured a tin of gloss paint over my car as they had nothing better to do with their time (this happened on multiple occasions). I simply cannot wait until the warmer weather gets here and I get to spend more time outside

Really enjoyed this!! It's exactly like my cousin's place in Wimbledon! It's really interesting watching tours like this because it gives a perspective of real life for other people ... I live in Qld Australia ... which is about two kms from the surface of the sun ... being cold is absolutely not a thing, so seeing how you love the light and have soooo many heaters around is fascinating! Love the house!! Can't wait to see updates!!!

Try getting insulation to add to the inside of your garage door (not the door connecting garage and kitchen; that door that opens for your car) if you don't have some, that might help with the cold air! My parents did it recently and it's worked for them!

Charlotte I reiterate all the below comments. As an old hand - both in age and housing suggestion don't have any room in house without the central heating on in it. Doesn't make the cost of central heating greater but does make a difference to keeping whole house warm. Good luck for the future we have watched you go through the trials and tribulations of your life and I am happy your life is moving forward in the right direction. As an elderly woman 63 I need grandbabies hehehe maybe being to forward you have never mentioned children but reckon you would be fab. GOOD LUCK
I'll still be leaving my radiators in the living room, as much as I love my log burner I wouldn't have it on every night when it gets chilly. Also as far as kids go I'm getting asked that more and more at my age...no kids on the cards yet.....or maybe ever.

The bottom floor of your house looks so much like my grandparents house. Like the only thing that is different is the placement of the staircase, they even have one of those doors from the kitchen to the dining room. I honestly thought I might have mis-remembered the staircase (I've only been there twice because I live in Canada) and they had sold their house without telling me. The upstairs is completely different, so I know that's not the case. Hahaha, I guess a lot of British houses look similar.

Oh my god! Take down that wall between the dining-living room and the kitchen and make an office kitchen! That would make it all look huge and so illuminated!!!
I hope you don't mind my recommendation...because you do have lots of large windows, and from the sounds of it, inefficient doors, you may consider the cost of replacing them. Having been in the industry in Maine for 20 years and replaced mine as well, you would feel a dramatic difference in heat retention.
My other half actually works for a company that specialise in windows and doors so after the electrics, that's the next big thing on the list to be sorted

I am sorry for your loss, but congrats on the engagement. My husband and I bought our house in August 2015, got engaged in January 2016, and then married November 2016. We are now doing some renovations on our house. Moral of the story is, I've had a moderately similar journey, and I wish you and your fiance all the best on your journey and your future.
