Job well done. I felt the same way with my aluminum ramps. I built a similar design . Worked well. I also used the plastics from the aluminum ramps lol. For traction I used old worn out Teflon slides from my snowmobile rails. Worked well. My truck has an 8’ bed so my ramps and deck were a little longer. I tapered the flip up part like dove tail. When I pulled out my ramps they lined up perfectly with the dove tail angle. I used a couple of steel pins to secure the ramps for loading the snowmobile I added a couple of the Teflon traction bars I made to the top of the deck to avoid spinning when backing the snowmobile out. All the best to you and your family in the new year.
I have seen the dovetail design as well Lloyd. I would have done it here but that was all the 2x6 I had on hand. And I’m a long ways from a hardware store lol. Worked out cuz the ramp hooks in the top but also is supported by the edge of the tailgate. So it shares the brunt of the load. Just a fluke.
Perfect work, great video as always.....add sides / guides to the loading board to guide skis buddy. Next project, use "like" a back rack for the truck cab & a shelf to store the sleigh sideways on top of the nose of the ski doo😆. ( dan)✌🏼
Great job. I built one a few years ago never used it tore it apart and made something else with it I also have a set of aluminum ramps don’t use them either lol. I don’t like how far the big sleds stick out of the 6.5 boxes would rather use my snowmobile trailer this way I am not scratching up the sleds and I still put my pelican and whatever else in the back of the truck but to each there own. You did an amazing job building it I hope it works well for you. Take care and we will see you in the next video Ian
I used to own a small trailer years ago as well. I thought about reinstating it but then I’d have to find a place on the highway to turn it around etc. unless I unhooked it and turned around by hand etc. I’ll give this a try and hopefully all works out.
I had the same issue with the aluminum ramp. I made a similar rig to solve the problem. I used an old box liner cut out for the runners to slide on & an old skidoo track secured to the ramp for traction. Cat's meow. Nice workshop.
Wow! Only posted 5 minutes ago and I am not the first to comment. Wonderful to see that more people are getting to enjoy your wonderful videos, Chuck! I can only wish you and yours greater success and happiness this coming year!
Love it, I've considered making one too - my truck has one of those multi-pro tailgates and can't bare the thought of messing it up with the weight of a snowmobile. This kind of thing would take the weight off my upper tailgate.... great idea. I was reading the comments and I liked the idea of edging a short piece of 2x4 along the inside of your ski boots to keep the ski-doo from potentially slipping off the platform. Great video - good mix of construction and cooking/cabin things - the transitions made for great storytelling - well done!
😂 Haven’t seen much make you a little warm around the collar but those trifolds sure put a man to the test!!! 😂😂😂 Great video, nice ramp and good food as always!!!! Love it!!!!!
That dog’ll hunt. We used to have balusters instead of the aluminum on ours. Yours was much more refined though, I used to see fellar’s let the tailgate tethers go so it would drop down on an angle and cut slots in the tailgates themselves, but that was when they were all metal and not really complex and expensive tailgates like nowadays. I wonder if this setup is mostly a Newfoundland thing as like you said it’s a very common setup on pick ups around here. Certainly better than having to back up to a snowbank😉
Nicely done! Have seen old skidoo tracks used on ramps and platform but that aluminum was put to good use. Maybe the rest of aluminum could make a trail groomer. All the best to you!
Nice ramp on a side note you should use two straps to hold your sled in plus if you can find an old box’s liner 8ft if you can find one where your skis sit it will stop your skis from sliding around …. Cut in strips one on each side
Great job Chuck, don’t you love it when something in your works out! Too bad you don’t have enough snow to leave from the cabin! Have fun and take care!Dave❄️👍😀🇨🇦
Simple things in life and make all the difference when it comes to making your day to day routines easier on you and your gear. Nice to see the Charlie-Horse in action as well. Happy New Year buddy, looking forward to your next video.
Hey Chuck. Thats a great system you have for the skidoo. Nice workshop too. Side note, you can hear how cold it is when the snow sounds like your walking on styrofoam.
Well thank you for getting back to me I do appreciate that a Happy New Year. And I do love your Content I would love to learn how to start a UA-cam channel. When I move back to Alaska.
Hi Chuck! You have a great rig there now. Guess your only other option TIL you get more snow is a trailer but dragging one of those around isn’t fun. Your old cabin sure makes a great work shop. When we burnt lots of wood,I also liked to get r done early. Never know what the winter has planned in a few weeks time. TIL next time, take care
Yes and it’s hard to find a place to turn around on our highway. You can literally go 20 kms before finding a driveway. Otherwise I’d have to unhook trailer and turn around by hand etc. even that has its hazards. I’ll give this a try for now and see if I like it. If not, on to the next project lol
I know you have your boughten sleds but think if it were my thing I’d build a work single sled that would be able to use as the part that goes on back of your truck and you skidoo would ride on it . Just so it’s multi purpose. Yet still have the ramp to go on for loading.
No because the skidoo is in the “pivot” stage at that point when the carbides meet the hinges so there’s little to no pressure. I thought about adding another couple of hinges in the middle just in case tho. And I still can. They cost $4 for a pack of two so well worth it lol
Measure the distance from the ground to the truck bed or trailer. This will help you determine the necessary length of the ramp.Use a circular saw or jigsaw to cut the wooden planks or plywood to the desired length for the ramp surface. Cut 2x4 or 2x6 lumber to create the frame and supports. Create a frame using the cut lumber. The frame should outline the edges of the ramp and provide additional support. Attach the frame to the underside of the ramp surface. Install additional supports beneath the ramp at regular intervals for added strength. Attach these supports perpendicular to the frame. If the ramp needs to be elevated, attach legs to the underside. This will depend on the height needed for loading and unloading.
Crafty work man!
Loves the humor!
Love the tunes!!!!
Nice work friend…. ❤
Nice build 👍🏼. Have a great 2024 year. ✨👋🏼
You too John
Necessity is the mother of invention.
Slick setup, nice work!
Awesome idea just like your fire wood cutting rack at beginning of video. Thanks for shearing 😊
Beauty setup Chuck. Cheers from da ROCK!
Nice job project
Great job on the ramp Chuck. The best place to cook is on top of the wood stove!!
Great job! 👍
Starting a video with a meal is a good start to your day. That's a fine wood arse der Chuck! Great job on the snowmobile ramp.
Fantastic! 👍👍
Beau projet 👌
Bonne année 🥳
De Baie-Comeau
Nice job buddy
Nice cabin. Good lookin pups
Nothing like a satisfying project to make a day!!! And I never broke a sweat lol
You will love that. I have used a similar set up for 30 years or better
Awesome. Good to hear.
Nice job!

Good idea. I don’t have skidoo but if I ever get one I will build that. I can see how bad to use these ramp are bad.
Thanks for the idea.
Pat
Great job bud
@madrampsusa hook this guy up well deserved person. Loving the channel
Awesome 👍
Well done!
Good job
Nicely done. Your good.
Not good lol…maybe cheap and think strangely lol
Feel your pain Chuck with the aluminum ramps , ok to use in a emergency but not a everyday thing . Love your new one 👍
Seen many of these when living home. Nice job Chuck
Happy new year, and an awesome project/great idea. Sure like your shop work space/kitchen dining.I enjoy your videos. Have a great day
Thank you Mr friend
great idea !!
Great job Mr porter you're a talented gentleman
Great idea , recycling, simple, light, strong and it works.
And if it were complicated you wouldn’t feel like using it multiple times. All things in life like that I find.
Looks good
Excellent job there buddy and a fine feed got to love it 👍
Nice work Mister 👏 👌 👍
Well done, just like that lunch!!! MMMM GOOD. 😉😉
Delicious as always my friend lol
Great video Chuck. Happy New Year🎉
You too sir 👍
Awesome video chuck those seem to be getting popular
Nice job and with a winch mount, you can still haul your moose up there. Thanks- from Hells Canyon, Frank.
We use winches on my work truck to haul in road kills on the highway. Some brutes sometimes.
WOW ! Nice job mister Chuck !!! Have a good ride ...
Perfect work, great video as always.....add sides / guides to the loading board to guide skis buddy.
Next project, use "like" a back rack for the truck cab & a shelf to store the sleigh sideways on top of the nose of the ski doo😆. ( dan)✌🏼
Yes I may do that Dan. Others have suggested it as well 👍
Tidy job got me thinking now too 👍
Great job. I built one a few years ago never used it tore it apart and made something else with it I also have a set of aluminum ramps don’t use them either lol. Sweet
That was awesome how things work out PERFECT!!!
Awesome job, Chuck. 2 thumbs up
That's a dandy system great job sturdy and safe👍
That was a great project Chuck my buddy got one like yours he said it the best. take care and enjoy your night.
Great idea!!
Great one . Refer to this video when I build one, thanks !
Good job, Chuck. You're a handy feller.
Handy, as in close most days Andrew lol
Great ramp for loading your snowmobile really like how it folds up and slides inside the base so you can still close the tailgate
Hey Chuck. Nice job on the ramp. The stew looks some good too.
Kenny
Nice ramp Chuck. Old skidoo track would also work well on the ramp. Thanks for sharing.
What an awesome idea! Enjoyed the video. 🙂🇨🇦
Great idea, great feed, that's a win win for sure.
Coolest dogs ever!
Excellent stuff ! Great channel sir
another great video.. thanks chuck.
In Sweden we say ”Kanon bra” 👍🏻👍🏻
Great to hear from Sweden!!!
Great video chuck! A piece of old snowmobile track works awesome for traction on ramps or trailers!
That's a slick setup, the aluminum traction bars look like the ticket, nice job!
Fantastic, thanks Chuck!
Now that's impressive. Soooo easy to use. Enjoy the flats b'y.
Perfect job sure
Who would ever say Big land would have scarce amounts of snowfall
First time in 30 years I’ve seen this. Not sure what will happen to cains quest if this keeps up
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors hopefully you got the same dump of snow we got here in Lab city last night
I had the same issue with the aluminum ramp. I made a similar rig to solve the problem. I used an old box liner cut out for the runners to slide on & an old skidoo track secured to the ramp for traction. Cat's meow. Nice workshop.
Wow it’s amazing what you can do we love your videos cal said he never seen that before good job
Hello to you and Cal 👋
And I enjoyed watching - you’re a regular wizard - no doubt could work for an ATV - although may sit high in the box ?? Thanks Chuck always enjoy
Atv will fit no problem. I tried it 👍
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors man you even respond - you sure you’re a human !
Perfect Chuck. I had one made very similar to it. The folding up part so I could put up the tailgate. Used it for 12 years. Works excellent.
Great job on the Ramp!
Canadian Tire needs to send you a few tools to try.
The is a lack of snow in Ontario too.
Nice ramp. I had made one similar years back. Best way to do it.
Yup, made those like 30 years ago.
got to love those long tracks Chuck !! Should have the whole thing patented
Haha. I certainly wasn’t the first to come up with this idea. Simply putting my own spin on it is all.
Wow! Only posted 5 minutes ago and I am not the first to comment. Wonderful to see that more people are getting to enjoy your wonderful videos, Chuck! I can only wish you and yours greater success and happiness this coming year!
You too my friend
I've been thinking about doing something like this for my jeep gladiator. Could come handy when I don't need my 2 place or 4 place snowmobile trailer.
Nothing nicer than the squeak of the Labrador snow!
Nice hey!!!
Great job Chuck, I hate those metal ramps as well. I rarely use mine, rather use a snow bank or snow ramp when I can.
Yes me too, however we don’t have enough now to build a decent bank! First time I’ve seen it like this in 30 years.
Thanks Chuck , God Bless
A handyman you are for shure. Happy New Year!
Great video buddy it looks awesome you did a great job my friend

Heck yeah I’d be building one if I didn’t have an overpriced enclosed trailer 😆. Nice work.
Dave
Hahaha. Those good too
Nicely done! Have seen old skidoo tracks used on ramps and platform but that aluminum was put to good use. Maybe the rest of aluminum could make a trail groomer. All the best to you!
I’d love to have a good trailer groomer design. I need one badly for my woods trail
Nice ramp on a side note you should use two straps to hold your sled in plus if you can find an old box’s liner 8ft if you can find one where your skis sit it will stop your skis from sliding around …. Cut in strips one on each side
way to go, Chuck!! Great ingenuity and I love how it turned out!!
100% agree about the ramps. It seem that they are out to get us 😅
They are!!! lol. I’m convinced of it!!
Great job Chuck, don’t you love it when something in your works out! Too bad you don’t have enough snow to leave from the cabin! Have fun and take care!Dave❄️👍😀🇨🇦

Charlie horse going all the time my friend. Change your life and save your back that thing would bud👍👍
Hey Chuck. Thats a great system you have for the skidoo. Nice workshop too.
Side note, you can hear how cold it is when the snow sounds like your walking on styrofoam.
Even moreso on this cold morning. -32.5 here right now.
Great job Mr Porter, can,t wait to see how your Pelican fits in the truck. How do you get your wood home?
Pelican fits even better actually….before, the wheel well would be in the way….now the wheel well is kinda hidden so the sleigh fits in quite nicely.
I cut a large load of wood, truck it home, then go back and get my skidoo. It’s only about 10-12 mins away from my cabin.
Well, that is really cool you inspired me. Was your pick up a 6'.25 "ft I'm sorry I did not do that in meters. I'm from Montana.
I love that.deck
lol. I still do things in feet, yards and inches. My pickup box is 6.5.

Any issues with the carbides hitting the hinges when backing it off? You could have moved them towards the middle by about 8 inches. Great build.

Truth be told, you could probably make a buck $ making and selling them. Wonderful job Chuck. Cheers
Someone can run with that if they want Andrew lol. This one took me the best part of the day and now I’m on to the next project lol
By the way you are lucky you have snow 😂(SSDECK)
How thick was the plywood you used sir? Works great
It was 5/8” because that is what I had on hand. Of course 3/4 would be better again.
