I have to say, it is so annoying FIS edits videos like this to a short version. The full run is not that long of time! FIS POST THE ENTIRE RUN!

She's the best at her age there ever was👍👏👏👏
I hope, with her supreme ability to maintain the aerodynamic shape at 60mph, she'll turn her attention to the speed events. There's nothing left for her to prove, achieve and win in the slalom.
Thanks for not disappointing, and the thrill from an excellent run down the hill, Mikaela.💖
Records aside, you'll eventually be the best ever on racing skis, Period! 😻💝💋

Khairilauar Othman : I agree with your post. The problem is, when Mikaela starts concentrating on, and pushes herself on winning the speed events, this will also increase the changes of Vonn type knee injuries. This fact about the spend evets is sad but true. And I don't want to hear that she has been hurt.

@@igoski1582 The 6 components of technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition and judgement constitute the prevailing wisdom on downhill racing.
I share your concern about all the possible injuries Mikaela would be exposing herself to, not just the knees, if she were to turn more of her attention to super G and downhill. However, I truly believe that Mikaela has the 7th component in abundance: Brains and Good Sense. She couldn't have chalked up an astonishing 55 race wins before her 24th birthday otherwise. I would suggest, and hope, that she will adapt to an inevitable changing physiology and learn how to keep winning at 30.
Mikaela herself surely realises how phenomenally accomplished she is; too, that she owes it to her supreme talent that her ambitions ought to outreach those of the merely brilliant.
I suppose for us simple armchair speedsters, it can't be much more than a small matter of adjusting the technique to cope with longer skis, what! 🤔🙄🤓

She's the best, yes, but I strongly hope she stays away from DH. First year of seriously taking on SG and what? 100% wins, 4/4. That's it. Nothing left anymore to prove in speed events for her. Nothing left to prove at all either! DH (btw, she already bagged one last year, so what's the point???) will just massively increase the risk of serious injury. Not worth it. Now, if she enjoys herself doing it, well...

@@jeanfourcade If Gatsby were to be believed, champions are different from you or I; and exceptional champions just know they are better than most.
She has dedicated herself to her sport; her arduous training to ensuring her longevity in it. I trust Mikaela to be an extraordinarily sensible athlete who's taken into consideration the risk/reward calculation in determining the scope and scale of her ambitions.
Of course, she may not mind terribly future references to "her record 101 career slalom victories" inevitably tinged by "what might she have achieved had she... ", and keep it safe. 🤔😁😉

@@khairilanuarothman3869 we'll see. Being an ex-slalom racer and an exclusive slalom fan, I just hope to see her deploy her blissfully lithe dance through tight gates a few years more, rather than see her brutally hurtle her way down speed events (although she's a gorgeous sight in SG) and risk injury. But as I said, it is just my selfish view... In any case, Mikaela is something else. Cheers, Khal

Shiffrin's touched by the gods. 3 girls within 0.05 secs (70 cms) and who's coming on top? The golden girl, again. And she manages to build and to keep a 0.02 sec lead for 2/3 of the race! What are the odds? Unreal.

  • @gulagfilmsorg

I love the way she hit that gate hard and nearly out of control, just on one ski. That was a close one. I thought she ate it for a sec. Very exciting run. And yes, she did keep the tuck nearly all the way down. I think that once she hits 90 World Cup wins, and passes Stenmark, her fellow slalom competitor, that she can do more speed events, if she wants to.

@@jeanfourcade Well judging by your name you would know the USA has a president living so deep in denial, and a puppet of big corporation/people, he has pulled us out of the Paris Climate Accord, and according to all experts, including the French President, this dooms the world to a 220 foot rise in sea level. So going Green, not the patriotic red white and blue suits (said to have been developed with corporate help at a cost of over half a million dollars) seems more than just a fashion choice. SO does Climate Change effect skiing, I ask from Minnesota where when we do get snow it goes so far below zero the areas must close?

Great win Mikaela! I hope you keep your knees in mind. Try to remember you are foremost trying to be the best in SL , GS, overall, and SG. It makes sense to try for the Combined too; You should have an advantage over the speed skiers. Still keep both your knees and your back in mind. If it were me, I'd be tempted to ski downhill in Lindsey Vonn's last race almost as a salute or something to remember her by. However, you might actually be doing her a favor by not competing in her swan song race. She'd have a better chance to finish on the podium.

It as a very tight course in places, a true Super G. A tech skier like her had the lightning fast recovery skills. Remember the slalom at Sochi, when she lost both skies on the ice on that turn and had to pull them back under. Very fast balance.

Mikaela also keep in mind that if you bruise your knee(s) badly in a downhill race in this competition, that may seriously impact your ability to perform well for the rest of the season. I could also make it more likely that you could crash badly in either SL or GS later in this competition. There is a reason Marcel Hirscher does not ski everything; and it is not because he cannot be good at them all. Everyone's knees take a beating in downhill. You need to ask yourself, will you be giving yourself enough time for your knees to recover. Plus there is also the greater possibility of a bad crash in downhill -- serious injury.

The difference between Shiffrin and Vonn is Shiffrin is a better skier, technically. Shiffrin does speed because it is fun for her, not because she has to in order to win the overall WC globe. So Shiffrin can pick and chose which speed courses she likes. While Shiffrin trained, Vonn meanwhile rode around in luxury private jets accompanying a pro "golfer", not exactly athlete training, and thus the injuries.

    • @smartovich976
      @smartovich976 5 років тому

Shiffrin has replaced Vonn as the Best ever, but when you saw Lindsay on the course watching Tiger, she had already completed her hours of workouts rehabbing her injuries. Very few could match the work ethic of either of these women for a single day, let alone a season or career.
