~Came for the pruning, liked for the t-shirt.
Awesome!
It is nice to see a video of a man and his little girl making it on a homestead. Very inspiring.
Thank you. She enjoys it a lot.
Can't wait to see the upcoming grape videos! I planted several different types this year.
Cool. Grapes are wonderful to grow.
Gret info. Thank you
You're welcome
hello, thank you very much, your video is very useful for me, my name is "Bangkit" from Indonesia, nice to see you here 🙏🙏🙏,
Glad it was helpful!
Hi! New viewer here! Love your videos so far. Have you made the video for the trellis project with your red flame grapes? I just got some and am really excited about it!
Hello and thank you. Glad you got some grapes that you like. I did make a video on the new trellis. Unfortunately, the rad flame were the only one of my grapes to die. It may be the area I live in though.
Thank you
You're welcome
Wow this is good to see👍👍 keep going brother👏👏👏👏 👍

My grapevines are OUt of control and idk what I’m doing after three years I finally got grapes this spring and they’re growing out of my garden into the side of my front door walkway they outgrew their tomato cage and trellis and idk what to do next I’m thinking of ideas. Do I need to move the vines and tie them in the direction they should grow this year? Mine are muskidine too or a hybrid bwetween them and the summit idk. Lady at ace hardware told me to grow male plant next to female summit plant (2021,) then this year they produced! I have been so thankful and praying over them but I was gone a few weeks on vacation this year and they grew out of control I need help ahaha
Hi
Thanks for helpful video
I just plant grape tree for cut
Two of them I did fixed the ground put compost and layer of good soil top of that my question can i use weed barrier fabric good one on top of the soil around my new grape trees and put wood mulch on top that
I live in Pennsylvania south East
Thanks
You can use a weed barrier with mulch on top but it is not necessary.
Hi, I got a 2 years old grape. Do you keep the tendrils on the grapevine or take them off.
Wonderful bro i am from Bangladesh
Thank you
@@CountryLivingExperienceDear i want to talk to you
Hello. I’m Jeremy. I have recently moved to an established working farm that hasn’t been worked for nearly 15/20 years. There are grapes here that I know need some help. I managed to get about, I forget, 2 gallons or so worth. Made juice and jelly. Awesome flavoring grapes. If you’re interested in looking at the mess of vines, which I hope you are, I can send a picture and video. Thanks. West Virginia.
Glad you are harvesting some. What is your specific question?
This vine has been growing from the corner of the chicken house all the way across around 20 feet or so. Has been trimmed for ever. It’s a mess. I know it needs cut back , but I don’t know how much since it’s long and over grown. I will be building a trellis hopefully before the next season. Is there any way I can send you a photo or something?
@@jeremysimmons-bf4tl You can email me at the channel email address. I'm not sure I could tell you exactly what to do. If if is that long, maybe cut it back to 6' in length and let it resprout so you can train it. How big is the main trunk?
Hi, great video and very well explained. Should I prune my grape vines in the first year? I just bought my grapes to grow around my bbq area and they are 6ft tall. Thank you.
Thank you. I have several videos in my archives about first year vines and training them to the trellis. They are in my gardening playlists.
I have have a muscadine vine my uncle gave me. It’s small but need to know what kind of fertilizer and time of the year to fertilize . Thanks for the information and videos
You're welcome. I have only fertilized once in 4 years and only because I had some extra fertilizer. It was just a generic 3-4-4 veggie/fruit tree mix. They usually do not need it. My grapes are large and sweet every year without anything added.
Country Living Experience: A Homesteading Journey thanks for the information.
This is fantastic and so helpful. Thank you! What kind of (green) wire did you use for your trellis? Your green wire looks softer for the vines (and on the fingers) than basic galvanized wire. Is it coated?
You’re welcome. That wire is clothesline wire. Essentially galvanized wire with a rubber coating.
I’ve got a few varieties of table grapes that produced great last year after I pruned back the shoots. I cut back quite a bit more length on them though and am wondering if I shouldn’t do that this year. My thought was that I should prune them back to about a foot beyond the clusters so that more auxin would reach the clusters instead of the buds further up the stem. Do you prune closer to the tips to preserve nutrients when the vines go dormant or is there another reason you prefer to just prune the tip instead of closer to the clusters?
I prune the ends off the shoots about 24” beyond the fruit clusters to preserve concentrate the growth energy on the fruit instead of new foliage.
question: my grape vine has two stems that grew from the main stem. One has one bunch of grapes, the other has 4 bunches of grapes. These vines are still in the early training stages and I let them get a little bit away from me. I’m still growing the “main stem” up to the wire.
Should I cut off the one-bunch stem, or would it be ok to wait until the grapes are ripe later this year and then cut it off?
I would wait until the vine is dormant and then make your decision to prune. Remember which one you want to prune or you could train both down your wire in opposite directions.
Been wondering. If I have a pergola and only want leafs for shade how early can I cut the grapes off so I only have shade cover above pergola. Its 16 x 14. Only keep grapes on outer edges for consumption.
The grapes wouldn’t impede the leaf growth and they hang underneath. There is no reason to prune them off.
i got a 2 yr olds grape vine that did not do well last year, meaning the fruits just rotted out when it was little TINY. This year it produced tremendous amount of fruits JUST EVERYWHERE, hanging everywhere. How do i make sure to keep the fruits not rotting out. I'm located in Greenville, SC, zone 8....we are getting enough rain in the last 2 wks......fruits are still tiny not even half the size of a marble. Do i need to use fertilizer, what kind and how often? thanks.
Fruit rot can be the result of a disease. Some diseases manifest when conditions are too moist. Try spraying them with a copper fungicide. Also, grapes do not like wet roots. They need extremely well drained soil.
My grape vine have 3 cordon, should I cut one of them ? And which one ? Thank you 😊
It depends on what type of grape it is, how it is growing, and what training system you originally used.
Just getting started with learning this.. is there a particular place i need to make the cut when pruning? do i go at an angle or straight? how do i trim a spur for fall? if anyone can link me to a video on this or explain it i would be so appreciative!
Hello. We did a whole series of videos on grapes. Here is one that will help you...ua-cam.com/video/MpzzDXaifIs/v-deo.html
Do you know how to grow mascadine grape from seeds ? What fertilizer you use ?
I usually just use a good well balanced rich soil. No synthetic fertilizers. They are easy to start from seed. Same as any other.
Hello, I am Juan in Seattle. I build a grape vine pergola two years ago and now full of grape vine laterals. My question to you is how to prune them before we see the shoots? There are so much laterals and leaves. No shoots are showing
I have a lot of videos on grapes. Try this one....ua-cam.com/video/EIIKtym95W8/v-deo.html
How many leave should I leave on the lateral new shoots before I top them off?
Just make them manageable.
How many leaves do you leave on the laterals once the clusters have formed.
All of them. I am not sure I understand your question.
How about catawba, how do you prune it and when?
Sorry, I am unfamiliar with catawba.
Do i trim or not? I have a small trellis approximately 12’ long in a large rolling box, like half the size of a coffin, the trellis is V shaped extending past the box edges, it’s mid June there are what looks like tiny grape bunches and the vines have grown past any supporting trellis wires.
If grapes grow there’s no way these vines will hold them what do I do… My grape vine is 3 years old the main vine is about the size of my thumb in width (mans thumb). I have two wires and four vines coming off the main.
I wish I could send pics but comments don’t allow it.
That is a complicated question. Since I cannot see it, I am not sure what to tell you. My best advice is to just tip prune the fruiting arms. Pinch off the last 6 inches of each to inhibit growth. Keep tip pruning when they grow out again.
Bird netting can kill animals. I use plastic clamshells from Costco grapes on each bunch. I do cane pruning on my Thompson Grapes. I looked up your type of grapes: "Muscadine vine structure-before (left) and after (right) pruning. Figure 10. Typically, growers will try to select healthy fruit- ing spurs about every 5-6 inches along the cordon. The individual spurs are pruned to 4-7 inches."
what month will you have fruits?
Late July to mid August.
I went with a neighbor to volunteer garden. They have 2 grapevines with like 20 or 30 5 to 15 ft vines all over, mostly green. Should we really cut them all back to just a few, or can we just fertilize like hell?
Grapes love to be pruned. They need a trunk and an arm. The shoots will come out of the arms every season and bear fruit. If it gets too wild, they won't be very fruitful.
@@CountryLivingExperience It is all new, green growth from this year, but it's like 20 vines a plant. Only 2 clusters of grapes. I don't want to ruin it or lose potential harvest.
Prune it back some at this time of year. Then wait until it is dormant and completely prune it. It may seem counterintuitive but grapes like to be pruned heavily and reward you with fruit for doing so.
How much time did it take to bear fruits
A little less than two years
Hmm thats why I didn't get grapes 🤔 I didn't pinch the ends or prune ...thank you I will try again next season
That is one reason. It still should have produced some. You may need to add some nutrition to the soil and change how you water a bit.
@@CountryLivingExperience i agree. What do you use for your nutrition feeding
@@1-chef-875 We usually mulch with woodchips but we add leaf mold compost as well.
@@CountryLivingExperience great I have that 😀 thank you for the information
Nice video. Where is the fruit?
Thank you. We have other videos on the channel about our grapes.
Do birds get caught and die in your netting.
Not at all
Roses are red violets are blue I like your vids do you like your fans to?
Lol. Of course. All of my subscribers are great.
i have 12 years old grapevine and did not bear fruits even once
It may be the wrong variety for your area.
Try getting a grafted one from rareseeds
Hiya lad, have you an email or Instagram I could message you on regarding restoring a grape vine. I'm an assistant gardener on a private estate in Ireland and grape vines isn't something that's massively grown here and not really something that's covered in college so could do with some help.
Sure, we would be happy to help. Our email is contained on our main page under the "about" section. We also have a facebook link on the main channel page. You can message us there. We don't check instagram messages.
Got what? Are you afraid?
What?
Doesn't really match up with reality....
Lol. Nice troll comment.
