She is the grand countess of the modular artform. I am so happy that she is receiving renewed acclaim in this exciting era of modular synthesis. Am I alone in marveling at the explosion of new mod units and tools being produced in the last decade? It is wonderful to see so many "cottage" industries gaining foothold in this field. Which of course reciprocates with the expanding field of creative people who want to build and compose with modular synthesis. The avenue of the internet to share and immediately communicate musically is a huge catalyst for creativity and we are witnessing the beginning of something that will mutate into untold funky expansion. I know I may sound a bit naive but I just woke up after a long spell of amnesia and remembered that every Woman, Man and Child is a funky Star in Heaven and Earth. We are It and now is the time to decide if we shall make music as our heart yearns to do or lower our expectations and degrade ourselves to slaves doing the work of blind materialists.
I have been in love with Suzanne and her music since the 80´s. she is an amazing musician and one of my heroins. Thank you Suzanne. you have made my life more beautiful...
setphaser I agree! She is certainly one of the masters in this artform and we love her feminine spirit in her compositions and her love is pouring forth.
At first I thought the title said P22. I'm like damn! The mountain lion was having bday parties, with live performances?? I know he was a celebrity but sheesh! RIP P22, we miss you so much. And Suzanne Ciani is AMAZING!
Really appreciate the birds eye view on the performance. I have been listening to the Buchla concerts on a loop now for several months and it's great to see what a modular performance looks like for you these days. EDIT: OMG, just put my headphones on, the stereo effects are exquisite.
This has SUCH an authentic 70’s & 80’s vibe to it it’s extraordinary 👌☺️even the colour & shade of light from the wires on the screen is STRAIGHT out of 1976! I love this so much!!! 👏👏👏 New fan in 🇨🇦
Don't ever ask her that. She'll punch you in the nose. She couldn't get a record deal when starting out because all the old, cigar chomping record execs are like, "So you don't sing? But... but.. you're a pretty girl, surely you must be the singer!"
Unbelievable, legendary...and today I was shocked beyond measure...I WILL SEE HER LIVE IN CONCERT; in my favorite club Berghain, on the mainfloor...I am speechless...UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I’ve been using the Animoog for years. It’s a great instrument for making drones on the fly during live performance. Glad to see Ciani giving it some love
Literally just stumbled onto Suzanne from a list someone posted on the comments thread "Lords of Synth" skit talking about electronic artists and having her turn up when I was re-listening to some Kid Baltan for the first time in ages and she came up in the autoplay. Having done a bit of digging since hearing the amazing "Paris 1971" and needing to stop everything I was doing to replay it, I can't imagine why she's not listen by more people, certainly a pioneer and a master of the craft. Gonna stick her on the same level as Carlos straight off the bat. I know when I'm hearing genius.
Wow! I'd be happy to be able to even turn on a synth at your age, let alone display such mastery of the instrument as you do; that was a terrific performance - a constantly changing musical landscape. You must have been exhausted by the end of that!
She was a synth pioneer in the 60s and 70s….. Garson, Carlos…. They would all be in their 70s or older, and many are still alive and listening to or making electronic music. And you don’t immediately automatically turn into a doddering old fool who can’t use their hands upon hitting 70 lol. Which is how old she was in this vid
Thats really cool your still making great sounds with synthesizers for decades now ! Ive seen videos of you from the 70s and saw you on Letterman years ago . Talk about a synth master sonic explorer ! Awesome .
It is indeed spacetronic. Mrs Ciani you are such an inspiration to me, thank you for the music. I made some interesting arpeggiations yesterday out or respect, there are a few clips on my channel, I've gone semi modular in the past I love the Buchla sound and your approach to composition, the 1975 concert album is amazing, I hope you are well and in fine fettle, best wishes from Liverpool, bless
"Goddess on the mountain top, Suzanne is her name......" Not quite Bananarama but it's from my heart😂😂😂👍🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. One of the very first CD I bought! (Either Velocity of Love, ELO's Time concept album cause it's sci-fi, or Kimigaru Orange Road sound track-Japanese teen romance comedy story)
As much as I love synthesisers, and play one myself, I couldn't be doing with all them bloody patch cables. Can't imaging having to take it all down and put back again. Is that cable where it's supposed to be etc. Patch bay on my MS 20 is enough for me, also got a Minilogue and an almost latest ver. Korg Prologue, which is a beast. Recon the MS 20 is my fav, lovely bass tones and more
Suzanne Ciani une grande figure de la musique électronique contemporaine avec toute mon admiration , j'aurai tant aime être à Stockholm cette nuit là !
Well done suzane your teacher in California was good! Now u are a real phenomen Jean Michel jarre àcc roche toi bien ! 💋😘 Just for me need some bass but I know it's ur work u need to make a duo with Jean Michel jare
Possibly - there are x number of control voltage patch cords and y number of audio signal patch cords. And as you know, the wires must never cross at a right degree angle.
Remember she was on Letterman around 1980, her sound was incredible!

Light Bright
Shine on and keep that funk alive!!
I just discovered her while watching a rerun of 3-2-1 Contact where she was a guest. She's truly amazing and gifted.
Proclamations of vain imaginations.
There's a video here somewhere of her creating pinball sound fx. Hot. Damn.
What are stars, if not material?
I have been in love with Suzanne and her music since the 80´s. she is an amazing musician and one of my heroins. Thank you Suzanne. you have made my life more beautiful...
22:58 "Keep those lights out! I'm not a DJ!"
That was a frenetic response from an excited light tech
... keep your pills at home if you do a gig..
That Poor woman. With so many flashes of light, you can't even see the wires and knobs.
Buchla analogico it still a Top Synth best qualità you can find, and she know how to use it.
So glad Ciani's been touring and working buchla again, her knowledge is so rich, it's great to have that knowledge shared and documented.
setphaser I agree! She is certainly one of the masters in this artform and we love her feminine spirit in her compositions and her love is pouring forth.

Thanks for the headphones tip !
Robert Syrett Absolutely correct! I came across this by accident. Was looking for Velocity of Love with my ear buds in! Lol
holy fuck just put my headphones in thanks for the heads up
Just imagine the quadrophonic experience of one of her gigs! Hey what is the iPad keyboard app?
Ah just realised - Animoog must try out

Damn. She is amazing.
Suzanne always has a special music ideas + she's most beautiful and gentle lady i've ever seen. Angelic voice. Kowtow.
I also love her voice. Did she ever try singing? ;)
Don't ever ask her that. She'll punch you in the nose. She couldn't get a record deal when starting out because all the old, cigar chomping record execs are like, "So you don't sing? But... but.. you're a pretty girl, surely you must be the singer!"
She's the voice, and composer, of the pinball machine, "Xenon". She doesn't sing, but it's very moving...talking, and reaction moans.
Unbelievable, legendary...and today I was shocked beyond measure...I WILL SEE HER LIVE IN CONCERT; in my favorite club Berghain, on the mainfloor...I am speechless...UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
so much love for her - brilliant performance
The Sound is So Warm And AnalogishOrganic ...I shore hope We get back to this Again !
Just purely amazing.
How can you not be a fan of Suzanne Ciani?

I’ve been using the Animoog for years. It’s a great instrument for making drones on the fly during live performance. Glad to see Ciani giving it some love

I love how you can hear someone stocking beers in the background in the beginning. So good. Just discovered her. Amazing.
Very nice journey, thank you!
FYI: if you remember the pinball machine "Xenon", she was the sound creator for it, and also the "Welcome to Xenon", "Try tube shot" voice.
A Master. That was really good. I only wish I could've heard it in that room.
Food for the ears and mind. Best consumed with headphones.
Really cool and amazing

THIS WOMAN IS FUCKING AMAZING
My phone subbed it has a mind of it's own. I guess I'll let it stand while deciding. I think you helped pioneer the problem.
🖤🖤🖤
She needs to do something with Marc Rebillet 😂👌👍That would be so epic ☺️
Fantastic!! Is it possible to find the quadraphonic version? Or does youtube support that?
This is like a party for Aliens from outer space. This is their club !!!!!!! Ciani rocks !!!!!!!!!!!
👏👏👏💕
she was a robot in a past life, come to bring the electric joy of synth
A future past life or a past future life?

Michel 04 Alpes France
you have animoog 🥰
Reminds me of Kraftwerk and JM Jarre, I wonder what they think of her music (?)
Loved her Pianissimo Albums
Easy enough, just play with wires and knobs.
You're a good lass!
:-)
Great Performance!! One App is the Animoog ... the other?
If it's a similar setup to what she was using for her RBMA talk, then it's the app for controlling Eventide H9 pedals.
Thanks :)
modular synths: where the setup takes as long as the performance LOL
Will this be released in 4 track?
Very noticeable 50Hz hum at quite moments - is it Buchla that noisy?
Possibly - there are x number of control voltage patch cords and y number of audio signal patch cords.
And as you know, the wires must never cross at a right degree angle.
Is there any way to download the quadraphonic version? I finally have the speakers ready haha
