- #Israel #ambassador to the #UN shredded a copy of the #UNCharter after the #UNGA passed a resolution that recognizes #Palestine as qualified for #UN membership.
He said member states were "shredding the UN charter" in backing the resolution, which garnered a vote of 143 to 9 with 25 abstentions. The #US voted against it-remaining consistent with its position after it vetoed the move at the UN Security Council last month.
For now, Palestine remains a non-member observer state but with elevated privileges at the UN. To become UN’s 194th member, it requires the approval of the UNSC.
