They were launched into space in 1977 to explore Jupiter and Saturn.
Voyager 2 went on to explore Uranus and Neptune, still the only human spacecraft ever to do so.
In 2012 and 2018 the two left the Solar System entirely - another record for humanity.
They are now exploring interstellar space,
faithfully reporting home for 47 years, far , far beyond the original plans.
They both carry a Carl Sagan's golden phonograph record of greetings
and human accomplishments for any alien civilization that discovers them!
