Yes Anders! You make a really good point. UA-cam has a giant reach. I agree that’s it’s vital to support these channels, especially the Russian speaking ones. I love Maxim Katz, TV Rain.
The most powerful response to authoritarian lies is the truth. Most the Germans in the DDR watched West German TV. Voice of America and similar transmitters simply presented the same news and programming as regular western TV. THIS WAS VERY POWERFUL. I lived in Bulgaria afterwards and they were very moved by the western information they received. Most had some kind of green house on their balconies and used the metal frame as an aerial.
I agree. The truth. When the "free and democratic" West is going to talk about Gonzalo Lira - tortured and killed in Ukraine's prison for speaking the truth? When Julian Assange will be freed for speaking the truth? Or "the truth" is the truth only when it plays in West's advantage? When the truth about Covid-19 terror is Europe is going to be discussed, as governments were forced to buy vaccines in the hundreds of billions of dollars? When the truth about over 30,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza in few months will be front and center in MSM, and Israel sanctions proportionally?
I think Russians are well aware of Western propaganda and the last time we tried to "help them" in the 90s, it led to the collapse of the Russian economy, the destruction of the fabric of society and the rise of Putin. We had our chance with Russia, we wasted it with the neoliberal shock therapy.

A Russian YT channel that is an abselute goldmine is 1420 by Daniil Orain. Its a small team of Russians who is against Russian imperialism just walking around making surveys on hard hitting questions. Its saddening since its a window into the state of Russia. Sometimes they get a firebrand, but usually people tend to either support the war regardless of the insane casualties against "a brother nation" or they show complete apathy stating that politics isnt for regular citizents.
Useful for a western audience, yes. And to be consumed with a sizeable grain of salt. People on the street are still threatened by Putin's regime, so they talk only in a way which doesn't get them into prison.

A big “THANK YOU”, Anders, from a russian speaking person for EMPHASIZING the importance of russian opposition bloggers who are fighting hard against pu’s regime in UA-cam. Who keep on insisting that basic human values are still a norm, that calling for hatred and murder of your neighbors is a sign of depravity. Who don’t allow millions of us be lost in kremlin twisted, toxic narrative. We, ordinary, but actually very extraordinary russian citizens, are harassed on all sides: siloviki pursue us and put in jails for holding a white sheet of paper or flowers; our compatriots marginalize and silence us; ukrainians want us to go and protest and call us cowards; west doesn’t give us visas and close our bank accounts instead of helping in all possible ways; UA-cam demonetizes the platforms that represent the voices of sensible, adequate portion of the rf population.
Yes, sanctions have gone overboard and been counterproductive in some cases. Like Russian journalists working from the Baltic states beeing closed down, is one example I know of. The problem with accepting Russian refugees, is that the Russian government will drown the real refugees with people loyal to the Putin regime. And you also have cases like when the Finnish just got pissed off with Russians taking weekend shopping trips for fun to Finland, while Russia is waging war and also threatening Finland. But I do feel the problem, that we (I'm Swedish, so almost Finnish ;-) ) also hinder people who really should be allowed in.
@@andersgrassman6583 I support Maxim Katz and TV Rain. The importance of keeping Russian speaking UA-cam channels operating from Europe monetized is vital. Sunshine and fresh air are disinfectants of the trumputinejo disease that has made both America and Russia sick.
@@andersgrassman6583 "Like Russian journalists working from the Baltic states beeing closed down" are you talking about journalists from "the rain" that sent "humanitarian aid" to the actual russian soldiers?
nevertheless, you must admit: not protesting about a war of aggression out of fear of a night in jail or problems at work says a lot about the hierarchy of values in Russia. I think Anders is wrong here. During the war in Chechnya, Georgia and in early 2022, access to information was quite common. It is also quite common knowledge among the Russian people that they are constantly robbed by their own authorities. Somehow this didn't cause any significant protests. Those who have protested so far will continue to do so one way or another, they will find access to information. Most Russians don't care about all this, as long as there are potatoes in the pot, they will bravely endure humiliation and beatings from the tsar. This nation likes it. It is a waste of time and effort to try to break through to those who are aware of what they pay taxes for but still prefer to remain silent.
Somehow Europeans seem to accept the argument of the russian "opposition" which is essentially "it's too dangerous to protest because we will all be arrested". So if 10% of the population of moscow (1.3m approx.) come out to protest in one location , the rosgvardia and omon will arrest everyone? Seriously, get real or just stay home@@imcbocian

@@SLENDAMANN well writing "UA-camrs who are PhDs in philosophy, military analyst, researchers at the Royal Danish Defense College and so on:" would have ruined the joke reflecting on how the political elite says nothing important nor does it give context. To make sense what's going on, you have to follow Vlad Vexler, William Spaniel, Anders, plus the institute of study for war and so on.
Thank you Anders for sharing your video… I agree that we need to encourage real journalism amongst Russians which is what Putin and the Kremlin are scared of….
I’ve often seen these type of individuals using the two handed gesturing to reenforce an argument devoid of substance and rooted in a position they know to be false
Such good and useful content. Thanks.
Congrats on 150K+ subscribers, Anders!!!
Good suggestion. Funding these UA-cam channels is such a sensible idea, one hpoes some Western government will do it.
Grear clip! Many thanks!
Informative, useful and encouraging - as always. Thanks Anders.
Very well put. Best regards from Portugal
You have an awesome skill to think, talk and argue with such clarity, it is so refreshing to listen to.
Anders Nielsen, Perun and William Spaniel; the holy trinity of information on Ukraine.
Also Reporting from Ukraine and Ukraine matters.
@@jean-michelvanpruyssen936”Military and history” is also good.
Ukraine matters are way way too self promoting to my taste, “i know better, what did I tell you” just the fact is 95% of what he tell/explain never happens, and the 5% that came trough, he spend the next 45min on.
_Russia-Ukraine Summarized Map Updates_ is a fantastic channel on the war. It has two-minute videos packed with detailed war info. Can't be beat.
@@jean-michelvanpruyssen936 I blocked both, because it is a lot of waffling about how the Ukraine (who I support) is always tricking and winning over those dastardly Russians (who really should get rid of Putin). They're not objective. And while they try to be factual, they also fail at that.
If I can't trust that someone is objective or factual, then their value is lost to me.
Vlad Vexler's main channel is also very good.
Thank you

Thank you.
You are THE authority on what is going on.
Bless you brother x
I like Vlad Vexler's channels and have learned lots from him. Vlad has repeatedly talked about the need to "politicize" Russians and Russia but I can't remember him ever saying how that might be done, but perhaps I've just missed it. Anders' suggestions seem practical and useful. I'm relieved to hear some tangible strategies that could be implemented and amplified towards that end.
I used to be subscribed to Vlad Vexler, but I unsubscribed when I realised that he has a lot to say, but doesn't actually say anything. He's a philosopher, not a political analyst.
@@Clinteresting Ya I get that for sure. I'm a bit fed up with his wordiness and rambling style myself. I did think he provided some insight into the situation inside Russia but then wondered what his sources are, how well connected is he?? It's also weird how slavishly devoted some folks are in his comments. "Oh Vald without your intellectual guidance I'd not be able to dress myself in the morning. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!" Hahaha Anyway it's good to listen to different voices so I'll continue to watch his stuff from time to time. Cheers.
@@dlmsarge8329Agreed, I like his insights into Russian thinking but wish his Ytbe 'Community' posts were less obtuse and cautiously worded, they're occasionally impossible to understand. And I agree with his take that we'd be wise to politicise the Russian population but yep, I've yet to hear and ideas from him as to how to do that, which would be productive.
Did Americans ever politicize themselves to the point of overthrowing Bush?
Commenting to fight the russian troll effort against this video.
Heh Anders. This is a great informative blog.
