For me Islam vs Charles was very exciting since it wasn’t a definitive outcome but Islam vs Volk and Dustin were definitive outcomes so I couldn’t be bothered with those fights.

Yeah, because Dustin can't overextend his punches and put a flurry on him because of the threat of the takedown. It's like defense complimenting the offense in any other sport. Islam's greatest neutralizer is his wrestling. It makes opponents that much more conservative in their own striking approach and also opens Islams entire game up. Put Dustin and Islam in a boxing match and Dustin cooks him. That's his wheelhouse

At this point I think Javier is just team Khabib’s honorary coach, just there for moral support.
Javier has his one foot out the door from being a coach, I realized this when he claimed that Justin Gaethje would've been Islam's hardest fight cause of his wrestling background. Yeah Justin has a wrestling background but he never wrestles anymore! The dude probably doesn't even do any wrestling in his training camps. But in spite of this Javier put Justin above Dustin as a harder fight for Islam when Dustin is a more complete mixed martial artist, and he showed this in his fight with Islam.
If Islam fights Leon he needs to go back to heavy grappling, he seems to be falling in love with his striking. After poirier fight he said he could’ve got the ko if he believed more. Everything he does on the feet should be to get the fight to the mat. He’s been knocked out once before it can happen again.

Dustin is supposed to lose to anybody who’s high ranked. He didn’t deserve the title shot. Not even close. He outboxed Dustin for the same reason a lot of wrestlers are able to outbox more elite strikers. They are worried about the takedown and don’t fight the same standing. They don’t even stand the same as they usually stand. In a boxing match Porier destroys islam.

What role does Javier play in that camp? Seems like he takes a back seat and the sceptic would say he provides a training environment in the US and that's pretty much it.
I think coach jav already explained that only khabib trained 100% with him and the father, other fighters they have their own coach, so he just play the head coach role, plan for strategy and mental the rest settle by their own coaches
He’s more of a mentor and gym owner but valuable nonetheless. They respect him and that’s all that matters.

It’s good to have more tools in your game. He out-struck DP because his stand up game has improved tremendously, takedown threat and the ability to mix those skills efficiently. Fight of the night and performance of the night.
